I have created a separate new topic, for dealing with the creation of a Wiki Guide to Punting in Marrakesh (and hopefully extended to whole of Morocco).

For those of you who have offered to help in creating the above guide,

Admin has already created for us the Morocco Section:

External Link/Members Only

The following are sections of the puntingwiki which will provide us with a guide as how to start off the new section, layouts, etc:

Other members have already created guides to other Countries. The following are a few examples of these, to enable us to put together the Morocco guide:

These are the Notes I made in preparation before going to Kesh:

Flights
Where from/to
Approx Costs during certain months
Length of flight

Weather

Airport:
Fill out Landing Cards BEFORE landing.

Arrange Transfers in Advance??
Cost of Taxi to centre? Haggle?   Approx Dhs 70 Daytime, Dhs150 at night, haggle.
How Easy?
How Long?

The airport is about 20 min from centre , Gueilz.

Money Exchange Centre:
Current Rate
GBP£1 = Approx 12.5~ 13.0 Dhs
Airport is always worst place to change. Hotel Farouq has been consistently the best, on road from McDonald’s to train station.

Local SIM:
ID Required
Cost of SIM
Cost of Calls     Dhs 100 sufficient for Loads of Local Calls and Data for 10 Days.
How Easy to Top Up

I shall add more notes as and when the above has been expanded and included within the guide.

Offline ss23

I think your notes would cover most of the general newbie questions.

Maybe also have a subject such as common scams and tricks to avoid like taxi drivers overcharging, club doorman fee, include WGs taxi in the price and don't get overcharged by apartment security (arrange a fee)

And do's and don't like always take a separate taxis from the WGs and be discrete when approaching girls. Don't get apartment in the plaza they are family only, get one about 5mins walk from there.

I still have x8 pages of A4 notes that I can post, which contains above info, but I didn't want to upload all of this in one go, and overload the content of the first part. As soon as the first part is transferred into the guide, I shall then upload more notes.

Offline ss23

Great, sounds like you're 8 pages will  be more than enough information for the marrakech section

The following were copied and pasted from the long-running Marrakesh thread, so are not necessarily my views. I did find most of this info to be useful.

There are some odd notes which are really my queries, for asking on the forum. In the end, I ended up getting all my queries answered by Nike in PMs and also when we met up in Marrakesh.

**********************************************

Although a lot about do's and don’ts are mentioned already, I would like to share some personal don't which I learnt from my mistakes

# Even if apartment owner confirms that it's a guest friendly apartment, still be very discreet when bringing the girl and do not walk side by side

# Do not go outside the building to pick a girl as taxi driver will charge at least a couple of hundred dirhams, I once ended up paying 200 Dirhams each for 2 girls who came in separate taxi in a space of about 10 mins.

# If you are in a group, try to control your enthusiasm or noise, guest friendly or not, some neighbour will take objection to it and inform the police, so if you want to party hard, go to a night club

# Bring as much GBP or Euro, which you reckon would need and as Nike pointed out get it exchanged as and when you need, there are plenty of FX counters around which offer better rates anytime compare to airport or your most foreign friendly bank account.

# Even if it's a repeat booking follow up & reconfirm with the girl you booked so that you have enough time to switch to plan B or better like Nike, have plan C & D, even if plan A is confirmed

Most importantly, respect the culture and people of the country you are visiting and you should be fine, on a whole I found the country and its people very hospitable & welcoming.

1. Tell the girl you'll only pay afterwards, and only if she does everything she's agreed to do.

2. Refuse to pay for anything at all in advance (she can pay with the money she's earning, but she has to earn it first).

3. Warn her that you'll throw her out without any money if she tries to ask for more than the agreed price or for money in advance when she gets back to your place

4. Don't be friendly, don't be polite (otherwise they'll just take you for a sucker).

5. Don't give your real name, address or any other information at all to a girl.

6. If a girl refuses to give you her number or pretends not to have a phone or ID card, she's setting you up.

7. Make sure you see the ID card (say you need to check her age) and make her leave it with security.

1.Apartment with no security- hard to find. If  security is there you will have to bribe.
2. Stick to cafes , shopping malls to find girls.
3. Make eye contact. If girl looks back you are onto a winner.
4. Be discreet- you cannot just approach girls directly in cafes. You may have to leave and chat outside. Or go to another café together so it doesn't look like you have picked her up.
5. Agree prices before you bring her back.
6. Treat the girls well and they will treat you better!!

For 2015, Ramadan starts around 8th June and lasts for a month,  all clubs, bars, restaurants and cafes shutdown for the duration.  At the end of Ramadan everyone gets a two weeks holiday. Therefore travel to Morocco from the second week in June to the end of July, this year, is not recommended.

Price is dependent on location and time of year, I've paid between 800 to 1300 dirham for a 2 bed apt.  in my favourite area ,around marrakesh plazza. futher out I've paid between 500 to 1000.

Apartment / Villa / Pool
Gueliz or Hivernage

Safety Deposit Boxes???

It is normally 6300 dirham's for 7 nights. It is a large one bedroom apartment with no security, kitchen/dining room, television, a/con and balcony.

Serviced Villas out of Town
Now villas are a bit outside the city centre, at least 10km. No at a big deal when u have a car but at night there are check posts on the roads out of the city and u will have to pay an little bit more for the girls to go out there or maybe pay for their taxis out there.

All villas are 100% private, by their very design and location. As mentioned elsewhere on this thread, there are police check posts on all roads out of city. Some girls get put off by this, also the taxis charge a lot to take girls out there. Most of the good villas are very discrete and if u can get the girls there early enough and ur well stocked, they might just party all night.

The plus side is the villas all have pools and are very private.

Deposit Payment will be required.

Avoid:
Al Qarya – Family Complex. WGs NOT Allowed at all.

Alcohol:
Keep Well Stocked up at the Apartment.

Can we bring some from UK Duty Free?

Johnnies:
Safe to bring a box from the UK?
Easily Available locally?

S Term Girls usually Need to be Home by 8pm

Daytime 500~800  McDonalds / Starbucks
Starts to pick up in early afternoon, in cafes.

Evenings 1,200~1,600
It doesn't get busy until around 7pm on most days

Clubs... 1,500 to 3,000 for overnights

Scenic Route:
Scenic Mile is stretch of road from Carre Eden Mall to Marrakesh Plaza. It's full of hotties.

As Nike has said many times, 6 to 9 is the busiest and best time to collect phone numbers around carre eden / Marrakech plaza.

Massages:
There are loads, just look for the signboards, Hammam Spa.
Yesterday afternoon I headed to a Hammam/Spa which is opposite the Hotel Nassim, 1 hour Hammam and 1 hour massage = 500 dirhams. I've never experienced a Hammam before but I defo felt fresh afterwards and would recommend. Onto the massage, it was a very legit massage which I was surprised about, the girl even asked me to keep my boxers on.

Cafes:
There are 3 cafes in the plaza.

Most girls will be in pairs or even groups, that's the norm.

The area around Marrakesh Plazza and Carrie Eden Market, huge shopping area, from around 4 to 9 pm is full of young women. Just say hello and smile, if u get a reply ask them if they would like to have a coffee. Their are numerous cafes. Once seated and sipping coffee u can pop the question and if they are sitting with u 99% of them will come back to ur apartment.
The cost is about 1000 to 1500 dirhams for all night and 600 to 800 dirhams for a couple of hours.

Café Elite (Brunch) to Starbucks

The McDonald's is in Gueliz next to The Plaza. You cannot miss it.
The Starbucks is about 5 mins walk from the McDonald's going towards Carre Eden shopping centre so the McDonald's and the Starbucks are within walking distance of each other

There is a supermarket within Carre Eden plaza, called Carrethree supermarket, is this what ur referring to perhaps? If it is, I have gotten a couple of numbers from there but no where near as many as outside the plaza.

Shisha Bars:

Level 5 in Gueliz, has a sky lounge, a nice place.
Level 5 is a bit of a hit and miss.
Level 5 open in the evening. I think it is around 6/7. They have different theme nights. First night I went was disco night and was full of hot beautiful French women. No punting as they are there for holiday and not working. Second time I visited was 7.30pm and it was dead. Had a nice meal and shisha and left.

Also Sky555. It’s above the Club 555. One of the best clubs I have been too.
Monte Cristo is another shisha place.

Apartments:

typical charges
2-Bedroom   Dhs            Deposit Required:
3-Bedroom   Dhs2,200         Deposit Required:
4-Bedroom   Dhs2,500         Deposit Required:

Air Con
Security
Kitchen
Dining Room
TV
Balcony

Villa (10Km Outside):

3-Bedroom   Dhs            Deposit Required:
4-Bedroom   Dhs            Deposit Required:     (CT ended up paying UK£600 per night for a 4-bedroom villa with pool approx 7 miles out of town).

It was a last minute booking and we had no choice. This could be reduced to £400 per night with advance planning, possibly having to pay at least 1 night's accom in advance.

Things to consider when booking accom:

Location from the strip / clubs
Distance
Taxi Cost
How Easy to Get

Car Hire. We ended up getting the local agent to hire the car for us and drive us around for the 4 days. Cost £100 per day plus £40~£50 petrol. Far better that he hires in his name and he is also the driver, as it is generally recommended that you do not hire cars out there, nor drive out there.

When deciding villa vs apartment:

They will both be air conditioned, both will have a kitchen and usually large lounge. If Agent A says its wg friendly, then there's nothing to worry about as far as security is concerned. Pros and cons regarding taxis or car, U will get a car and driver for a medium size saloon for about 800 dirham per day. Taxis are plentiful in the city centre but further out , u will find it difficult to manage without a car. When exiting from nightclubs or bars, the taxi drivers will only take you if u pay some ridiculous amounts, sometimes about 200 dirhams, in the centre, further out would be more. If ur staying in a villa the girls will want more and the taxi drivers will want more to take the girls there.

just spoke to Mr A. The car would be 800 dirhams dead per day. I would strongly suggest that we employ a local guide, pay him 1,500 dirhams at the end of ur trip, he will be happy. It's very important to have someone with local contacts. Basically he would be at your beck and call. The apartments are 2X 2 bedroom apartments in the same building. Security is not an issue, a couple of 100 dirham  tips to the 2 doormen and that will be it.
However if u decide for the villa, it is 5000 dirham per night and also security is no problem. the wgs will come to the villa but it does cost a bit more.

For restaurants, food guide and pubs.... I copied some info from tripadvisor. Note the word "seedy" was used by posters on tripadvisor

Started this thread there are often questions about Marrakech nightlife - I know there are already other threads but many are out of date so here is my list of current recommendations:

Then there is a whole range of lounge bar / restaurants which are suitable for dining and/or drinking - expect to pay UK prices (or even more!) to eat and drink:

Le Comptoir Darna, Gossip, So Lounge, Azar, Djellabar, L'Apero, BoZin, NoussNouss, Jad Mahal etc

For a more casual drink at anytime of the day with a cafe/pub atmosphere try:
Kechmara, O'Mulligans, The Chesterfield @ Hotel Nassim, Le Brasserie @ Le Renaissance Hotel, Cafe Atlas, Cafe 16, Le Chineur, Hotel Tazi.
Nightclubs - tend not to open until after 10pm and dont get busy until after midnight, there is often a cover charge:
Theatro: External Link/Members Only
Club555: beachclub555.com/Marrakech/555marrakech.php
Silver: External Link/Members Only
Pacha: External Link/Members Only

There are several others but they are mostly of the more 'seedy' variety so I wouldn't recommend them

Chesterfield pub on mohamed V 5min walk from mcdonald on opposite side..its an English/irish bar

Contact details in Marrakesh. I managed to get his details from Nike.

We need to make it LOUD AND CLEAR in the guide that there is NO WAY his details will be passed on to anyone, unless they have been established members on UKP and have contributed to punting threads on here, not necessarily in the Morocco thread.

I have a contact who has several wg friendly apartments.

My contacts name is Mr A, he's a letting agent, his English is passable for the job.

He's on WhatsApp so always send him a message as well as phoning him. Although whatsapp messaging works in Morocco, whatsapp calling is not possible.

If u don't have whatsapp download it and use it to get all the details u need, from Mr A. I've found him very helpful, he will even translate for u , once u've got the number of a girl.

Contact him as soon as you have ur dates confirmed and reconfirm about 1 week before you go

Whilst at the end of the day, he is an agent and is out there making money for himself, we found him to a really good friend as well.

Ramadan

For 2015, Ramadan starts around 8th June and lasts for a month,  all clubs, bars, restaurants and cafes shutdown for the duration.  At the end of Ramadan everyone gets a two weeks holiday. Therefore travel to Morocco from the second week in June to the end of July, this year, is not recommended.

This section would need updating regularly as Eid Festival dates change every year. Well worth making a note of these dates.

It is also a good idea to write your phone number on a few pieces of paper. Approach a girl and shake her hand giving her your phone number, you can also kiss her on each cheek as this is a way of greeting people.

Can we bring some from UK Duty Free? Yes is the short answer. Pricewise, Kesh is slightly cheaper, but we did not want to run around town, so instead bought a selected few favourites from the Duty Free shop on the way out.

I did warn you that there 9 pages of A4 notes!!

Hopefully, you will get some help from other members on here for posting them onto the wiki.

Otherwise take it easy and go at your own pace. Admin suggested and created the wiki page in April 2106, and up until this week, there was nothing on here, so a few more weeks won't make that much of a difference.

Yes, I had seen your earlier posts on there today.

And yes, once the guide is complete, it will become a very powerful reference point for guiding newbies and new visitors to Marrakesh to this thread.

I may be missing something......but can someone explain why it is considered safe to post the names of Hammams in Marra where you can get extras on the Wiki page but not on this thread😟😟

Offline misterali

I guess posters have come to your way of thinking.

Either way, as long as we are constantly updating and providing up to date details on the ground about Hammams, it should be quite easy to keep a track on the places to go and ones to avoid.

Wilson85, thanks for your contribution, great info there, esp about allowing for 12hours door to door. That's how long it took us as well.

Being a 6am flight from Stansted meant that we were awake all night in order to get to the airport for 3am check-in, had a couple of hours of sleep on the plane.

How is it with alcohol that we buy at the airport flying out? Are the customs an issue? Apart from that, how convenient is it to buy booze in Marrakech? Thanks in advance.

Landed safely in Marrakesh an hour or two ago. Everything went fine. The extra booze got through without questions asked. Took about 45 mins to get out of security and we paid a 100 to Gueliz. Now that the boys are pissed off at me using my phone still so I'll try my best to share my experience as best I can. Defo a long write up once i'm back.

Some more notes for adding to the wiki. Cheers

I would suggest its the art of conversation and getting to know them a little first. A cigarette or two or maybe a coffee and take some time to talk to them and then ease the topic of girls into the conversation... but Im no expert.

All the information posted on the wiki to date was posted by me... so I can categorically state that ALL the information posted there was already freely available both on this forum and other web pages & forums. I have no personal experience of punting in Morocco so what you see is the compression of stories and ideas from anywhere I can find it.
On a personal note, I see no harm in naming Hamams and other punting places like nightclubs and cafes. The authorities know that it goes on and they already know where it goes on. But I respect the wishes of those that don't want to disclose their info and contacts if thats what they want.
I hope everyone is finding a useful resource? I'm still enjoying adding to it but have slowed down majorly now due to running out of fresh info to post. But I'll keep looking.

I can give one reason why it's not a good idea to name hammams and cafés, nightclubs are a different category.  The very famous cafe fleur in the plaza , used to be one of the main places for picking up WGs, has been shut down, by order of the police because of all the wg activities.  Make them work hard for it, the police, don't offer it to them on a plate. Just my humble opinion.

It's a surprise that McDonalds and Starbucks haven't been closed too considering the amount of WG activity that seems to go on there

Mcdonald  and Starbucks are international companies with a lot of clout, it wouldn't go down too well with the government, I'm sure.

Like I said before, the old bill know exactly where this stuff goes on, (its where they make their money in bribes apparently so any good copper will already know). Having McDonalds and Starbucks opening franchises in Morocco is probably far more important to the local government and tourism industries than worrying about a few unmarried couples getting a bit of nookie. I think Fleur closing may have more to do with local politics than wg's but thats just my opinion and I have nothing to back that up, other than 10+ years of knowing how corrupt Morocco can be.

Nike...why do you think nightclubs are a different category from cafés? not saying you're wrong buddy. Just a question.

If the consensus here is to remove Hamam and Hotel and café  information from the wiki then I can do that in just a couple of minutes but I personally think the wiki will be pretty lame without it.

Nightclubs pay  massive kickbacks and are an integral part of the tourism infrastructure.  Also they are all operated behind closed doors and after midnight.  They are not in ur face and no families are going to be offended as they will not frequent the establishments. Imo

Fair enough. Though much of the above could also be said about the hamams.
Anyway, like I said, if the consensus here is to remove the info from the wiki then thats what I'll do.

Bingo there used to be a package hat myself and another punter used. It was perfect. 250 mins. 250 texts and 10gb data for 100 dirham. Always lasts me a trip but I don't know if they do it anymore.

Go to the store and ask for packages.

Could the above suggestion please be added to the guide. In addition, a list of all the Network Providers would be handy.

I will certainly add the above, np. A list of all the providers will take a couple of minutes longer unless someone else feels like helping out a bit?  ;)

I'm being a bit lazy with the wiki at the moment (sorry) but I'll get back to it when my real life work eases up a bit.

I would suggest its the art of conversation and getting to know them a little first. A cigarette or two or maybe a coffee and take some time to talk to them and then ease the topic of girls into the conversation... but Im no expert.
thanks I talked to my original contact but he's out of the country now  but his bro handles things there now he told me he will have a word with the guard and don't worry about nothing

Azam I took cash and my card as backup when I went Agadir, just make sure you tell your bank that you where your going and that you will be using your card there. As for hiding your cash it depends if your stay in a hotel or apartment. we stayed in a hotel and I took a travel safe with me for peace of mind (just in case maids or cleaners when through our belongings when we were out) heres a link to the one I brought and took

Great tip for those who stay in apartments and have not been provided with a safe.

KH, that's great info for the restaurants/cafe section of the Wiki guide. If you recall the names of these places, that would be great.

Cheers.

For the person asking about food there are some very good tribal places deep in James el fna. There is also a Lebanese restaurant in gueliz that does very Arab style food. Grilled meat and chicken. But it's slightly pricey. There is a breakfast place on muya Faisal street. It's a rod running parallel to the golden mile. It's got a lot of fish restaurants in it. There is a breakfast place there where a lot of the locals eat. Excellent value for money. Me and 4 others had a full in breakfast with fresh cocktails and moroccon tea altogether it came up to 150 dirham for 5. That's roughly 13 quid for a proper breakfast for five.

Where as another place I used to go for breakfast I would be charged 140 for two people only. Don't get ripped off.

Cool tiger I'm so sorry I do not remember the names. Nike and mister Ali. You were both present do you remember the names of these places or the street name?

I can recall prices. A mixed grill at the Syrian Lebanese place was roughly 70-80 dirham. That was for a full mixed grill with chips and bread. They also did fresh grilled chicken and rice that was tasty and that was 110 dirham but the portion was pretty large.

Great tip for those who visit cafes/restaurants which they would recommend:

Like MrAli above, take a picture of the restaurant or the menu, who provides details of the place.

Theres also a place just behind KFC in hivernage called highways. Its more a restaurant with loud music which gets going at around 10, have met some good ladies in there before.

HIghway yes has decent food and atmosphere. I had an apartment accross the rd from there. Nice little Area 5 mins walk from plaza. There is a decent exchange good rates, dry cleaners, and an off license, japanese food and italian if i can remember correctly. Also the police station is just 1 mins walk  :scare:

Some good restaurant pointers from SHIZ247

Anyone know any decent places to print boarding passes from?

Any Internet cafe in gueliz will do. It's like 5-10 dirhams for one paper. Internet is also cheap. The French keyboards are confusing as fuck though.

There is an internet cafe beside acima supermarket not far from cafe la flamme. If you have any problems you could go to airport and they will print one for you, though a bit more expensive for taxi.

Good pointers for Internet Cafes and any printing.

Hi CoolTiger,

Any chance you could please put me in touch with Mr A regarding help with girl friendly accommodation? Planning on going to Marrakesh first week in October.

Bump....

For all those who have been to Kesh in the past year or so, please review this thread (it's not even 2 pages long), and add any further notes which we can then later add to the Wiki Guide.

Thanks in advance.
