An evenning with Dua Lipa - ITV a few days ago. Now this particular lady has been nominated on the women we wish were escorts topic so I'd obviously heard of her but I didn't know anything about her music, I wouldn't be able to name a single song of hers as I'm more of a rock music fan but she had this show performing from the Albert Hall with a full orchestra and I have to say I was very impressed with her as a singer and performer. There was also clips of her about her family and she went to meet her old singing teacher without him knowing she was going to see him , he got very emotional when she turned up to meet him . She comes across as a genuinely nice person and talented lady. Well worth a watch even if like me you would not be aware or normally listen to her music. :music:

Any one else seen   IT- Welcome to Derry an eight part horror series based on the story by horror writer Stephen King.It is set in 1960's America and is a prequel to the horror film IT. Now I've never seen the horror film so wasn't sure what to make of the tv series. I recorded all eight episodes but have only just got around to watching the first episode. Going by the first episode it's pretty good if somewhat odd but now I will work my way through the rest of the episodes. I do believe there will be another 2 series. It was shown on Sky a few months ago. Without giving too much away it is set in a small American town called Derry  that has a large US airforce base and the plot involves the story of a missing boy.

Titanic Sinks Tonight on BBC2. Based on survivors recollections/statements, I’ve watched 1 out of 4 and I’ve learned a few things. Fascinating stuff and I will watch the rest over the next few days.

As good as the James Cameron film is, this is much more realistic.

The 1958 film " A night to remember " starring Kenneth More is a much better film about the sinking of the Titanic than James Cameron's over bloated version although to be fair James Cameron played a big part in discovering the wreckage of the Titanic. There was a very good documentary about this shown on tv a few months back.

Started in on The Hunting Wives on ITV/ITVX. Two consecutive episodes earlier this week, further available on ITVX.

Some fairly explicit sex scenes, to keep you interested, although I don't yet know whether I'll stick with it as the main theme hasn't yet really kicked in.

Or Something (2024). Two strangers go to the same apartment to collect monies owed to them by the owner, they end up taking a journey across New York City. Breezy comedy drama that mostly benefits from the intelligent interplay between the two main characters, Or Something is largely enjoyable, only let down by a contrived ending that's scarcely believable.  B-

The War Between (2025). 1862. A wounded Union captain and a Confederate private are forced to co operate with each other as they try to survive the Sonoran desert. Indie western that scores highly in terms of cinematography but is somewhat lacking in the story department, if the narrative matched the visuals this would be a winner.  C-

The Housemaid (2025). A young ex con (Sydney Sweeney) becomes a live in maid for a wealthy couple who harbour dark secrets. I've encountered my fair share of trashy movies over the years and believe me The Housemaid is pure garbage, at times I thought I was watching a comedy (a very bad one), it's actually a thriller but take that description with a pinch of salt. Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are quite awful in the lead roles, it also runs for over two hours which for such a poor film is far too long. Steer clear of this one.  F

Not quite, the camera angle disguises it in such a way that you don't get to see them in their full glory. A pity as she is very well stacked as we all know, check her out in a film called The Voyeurs where they are on full display.

Sir Henry at Rawlinson End
Ultra obscure British comedy about a British alcoholic eccentric out of touch with the modern world. It Was written by Vivian Stanshall and is shot in monochrome and sepia tinted. It came out in 1990 and there's no way it could have made any money at box office. It's fucking great.

Available in full, for free, on YouTube.

I'm on episode 4 and I'm done with it. The acting is wooden, especially Nesbitt, and scenarios are not believable.

I've been a huge fan of Harlan Cobens work, the movie "Tell no-one" is one of my all time favourites. However, his recent stuff on Netflix and Prime is pretty much the same story rehashed over and over.

They nearly all feature young people of late teens early twenties, there are multiple red herrings, someone is hiding a secret that has triggered the whole story. Just like Tell No-one.

He's made himself a lot of money rehashing the same story.

It’s sad how many so-called classic films have simply not stood the test of time.

A couple of nights ago I watched Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window.  Needless to say Leonard Maltin gives it the four stars he always gives the “great” films from that era, and Rotten Tomatoes calls it a masterpiece and scores the reviews at 99% positive.

The concept is ingenious.  The main set is clever.  It's always nice to see good 'ol Jimmy Stewart, and Grace Kelly is quite easy on the eye.  But God it's dull.  No tension, no suspense, slow, badly paced.

And Psycho (which I also watched recently)?  A just-about acceptable B-movie, if you like that kind of thing.  By today’s standards, the murder in the shower is about as scary as being barked at by a dachshund, and the psychologist pontificating at the end is a hopelessly limp way to end the movie.  Janet Leigh is quite easy on the eye, however.

Mind you, Casablanca is still pretty damn good.  And that Ingrid Bergman is quite easy on the eye.

Totally disagree with you about Rear Window, it's one of Hitchcock's most interesting films. The film's claustrophobic, voyeuristic tone has rarely been bettered, and the fact that the action rarely moves out of Stewart's apartment but maintains a tense atmosphere throughout is testament to Hitchcock's astuteness as a director.

Psycho has always been an odd film, it looks like a cheap TV movie at times but remains curiously watchable with some finely judged moments, the ending is limp, I will grant you that.

Casablanca is a timeless classic, it boasts one of the best screenplays ever written for a Hollywood film. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman were old school Hollywood glamour, fine performers the pair of them.

I watched the Carry On Christmas specials that I had missed. Again is quite poor being based on Treasure Island - low on laughs. 1973 is quite good with stuff which would be questionable even then - Babs pretending to be 13 and sitting on Santa's knee asking for a pop up book of Laddy Chatterley's Lover, but some of the sketches had me howling. Wendy Richards was a looker back in the day and she seems fun from the interview I saw.
