Yep, it was shit.

Which is weird as it was BAFTA nominated and has Jenifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett and others in.

Yet critic reviews were “mixed”.  Many a nominated a movie is shit, look at the collection of crap that was put forward for best picture at last years Oscars. Half of those films were barely watchable.

Don’t Look Up was overhyped because of its serious message on our attitudes to climate change. This didn’t stop it being a terrible movie.

IMO those who made the movie thought they were being incredibly clever and profound, but the movie ended up being incredibly shallow.  It’s a hamfisted attempt at satire.

Love Lies Bleeding. Netflix. Very good. Recommended. Gritty suspenseful thriller. Stars Kristen Stewart. About a lesbian romance.

2024 movie. Set in the USA. Year in 1989.

9 out of 10.

Don't Tell Larry (2023). A harmless lie spirals out of control with catastrophic results. Billed as a dark comedy thriller, DTL turns out to be a rather lightweight affair, it's so badly written that you almost feel sorry for the lead actors who are spewing out the lines, the audience kinda just spews.  D

In Our Blood (2025). A young woman attempts to connect with her estranged mother, she takes along a cameraman to document the experience. I am rarely flummoxed by modern films, but this debut effort by director Pedro Kos is one of those crazy film experiences you seldom stumble upon. Filmed in found footage mode, IOB is largely illogical but perfectly sensible in its oddball premise, just go with it and you'll have a ball. B+

Airport '77 - disaster drama with James Stewart. After a plane carrying valuable art is hijacked, the passengers find themselves in more peril when it crashes into an oil rig and plunges into the ocean.  Very unlucky passengers. They out did themselves on the story.

Now then, that's a blast from the past. Seventies Hollywood produced dozens of these films, essentially full length soap opera features with all star casts, most of whom were well past their sell by date. Airport '77 wasn't the worst of them but there were some genuine turkeys made during that period.

Spoiler alert. Fortunately the 747 survived crashing into an oil rig, but crashed in the sea and then sank intact with the passengers continuing to breathe normally. The whole aircraft was then refloated by some passing US Navy ships who just happened to be in the area equipped to raise a 747 from the depths.

Being a huge Bruce Lee fan since a little boy I saw fit to watch Way of the Dragon and Enter The Dragon as it would have been his 85th birthday on 27th November. ETD being my most fave movie and probably most watched movie. Just love it.

No singing or dancing yet, but an environment protection agenda with the Sea Devils being unhappy about pollution of the sea. Another Russel T Davies production.

I recently watched the tv series " Warrior" on Sky+ for the second time based on the stories written by Bruce Lee. Disappointed there was no fourth season as there was so many loose ends that needed closure.
The original 1970's tv series Kung Fu was made  loosely inspired by the same stories.

I’ve also watched and enjoyed Warrior. I was also disappointed there wasn’t a season 4 as there was plenty of life in it. Produced by daughter Shannon Lee. Some gorgeous ladies amongst the fights too. A few Easter eggs for Bruce Lee fans. I always look at the Kung Fu series as insulting to Lee due to it being rejected because Lee was Chinese only for the studio to steal the idea and then recast it with David Carradine with Asian makeup.

I haven't even seen Kung Fu, and don't wish to out of respect for Bruce Lee...

You have to watch Warrior if you get chance. I'm not particularly into martial arts but there are plenty of fight sequences in it and some very nice Chinese eye candy including the lovely Diane Doan

Yes, so much better than the John Wick films , I believe there is an Equalizer 4 out soon. I just hope they keep the standard up. I hate it when they flog a franchise to death ( excuse the pun)

Filming hasn’t started yet on this. So it’ll be a while before we see that. I’d like to see the character go to New York where the original tv show was filmed.

The Battle Between Land and Sea - utter shite

Offline ulstersubbie

Date Night (2010). Suburban couple end up having to go on the run from mobsters and corrupt cops. Flimsy, forgettable action comedy that wastes the talents of its leads Steve Carell and Tina Fey, especially Fey who's a really talented comedienne in her own right.  D

The Hidden Web (2023). Social media journalist uncovers a child porn ring whilst investigating the death of a local celebrity. Bleak and disturbing Polish thriller that suffers from poor editing and a lack of pacing at times but it's still a compelling watch.  B-

Sentimental Value (2025). A fading film director tries to reconnect with his estranged daughters as he undertakes his latest project. Finely crafted drama focusing on relationships and artistic expression, Sentimental Value is without a doubt the most purely satisfying film I have seen this year. Director Joachim Trier handles the action with great subtlely, tremendous acting from Stellan Skarsgard and Renate Reinsve in the two lead roles. Highly recommended.  A

After the Hunt

Pretentious, muddled, over styled, misplaced use of sound over effects and music.

Some great acting, and some moments of real tension, which ultimately go nowhere.

It seems as if it's trying to add some real life context on current societal rights and wrongs around race, gender and white male superiority, but it only really repeats what's already out in the media with nothing new for the viewer to take away.

Christmas day tv - what a load of shite. Ok if you like Eastenders and strictly come dancing ( which I hate both) but a couple of films shown are Jaws and Raiders of the lost ark ffs. I can remember a time when BBC or ITV showed a big blockbuster film that had never been shown before.
Good job I've got some good books to read over Christmas.

I think Christmas TV used to start a week before christmas, with some big films for people who had finished work or school for a few weeks; stuff like the classics you mentioned. Now it's continuous from the start of December, due to streaming. We've already had the Harry Potter films on ITV, which seems to be an unofficial Xmas film franchise.

I was debating on whether to watch this film but I'll definitely skip it now after reading your comments. I've never been a fan of Julia Roberts anyway, so best give it a miss.  :hi:

The BBC can't compete with the streaming services for premieres of big movies.

Good TV show I watched recently is called "The Pitt" It's basically a modern more dramatic reintroduction of E.R. set within one shift at the hospital, but each episode just feels like stand alone one. Excellent casting and feels fresh as I don't recall to many hospital type shows of late.

The Great escape althought an ok film takes liberties with the historical accuracy *. For one thing most of the POW's were British and commonwealth aircrew captured. Very few Americans were held there. The book " The True Story of the great escape by Jonathan Vance is well worth a read
* to be fair Hollywood takes historical liberties with most films they make . There's always the " true version of events and then there is " the Hollywood version of events"
