Agreed, the problem of course is the lack of any appeal avenue (unless you are DJT) and the question of whether it was 2 games worse in terms of opponent harm than Balogun - who was also sent off for serious foul play
So if we are accepting that Quansah's punishment for a reckless potential leg-breaker of a challenge is right then we're just arguing “but Balogun”, right? In short, yes it is 2 games worse than Balogun.
The biggest issue with the Balogun decision is the horrific precedent set by not following normal FIFA disciplinary process. Leading to people pointing to it and looking for leniency where it isn’t deserved. IMO the Balogun red card was a wrong decision, as there was no actual foul play, but the referee's decision is final and it was given. Overturning the automatic ban was also a wrong decision regardless of who asked for it.
If you watch the Balogun incident properly he doesn’t commit a foul at all, he is the player in possession, he has his back to goal and the Bosnian player challenges him from behind, causing Balogun to fall and stand on the Bosnian's leg in the process. It’s just an unfortunate incident in a contact sport. That a red was given after a VAR review was quite remarkable.
