So Colombia v Switzerland kicks off soon
This game has been dubbed " Charlie verses the chocolate factory  :D

Good game for the neutrals 🤷🏼

The Colombians still call them ‘Linesman’

Oh come on. It’s too hot to think of anything better.

No wait a minute. That’s not true………… I’ve got A/C  :yahoo:

A bit over the top but it did seem the 50-50 calls all went against them

Maybe an Egypt free kick or pen not given before Argentina got the winner ?

The calls all going against them a bit strange maybe some unconscious bias ?

FIFA have wanted both Messi & CR7 in the WC along with the USA as far into the competition as possible
FIFA bent the rules to allow CR7 not to miss the 1st two matches so a success
Less successful re the US team

BBC all over, advice you don't really need.

After our fantastic display against Mexico I think we should be confident of beating Norway.
Bellingham was arguably the man of the match, but Gordon wasn't far behind.
Let's hope they can reproduce that form on Saturday.
Surely Dan Burn should start, to stifle the threat from Haaland.
According to TNT sports. Burns has played 6 matches against Haaland and impressively only aloud him to score once.

A good call on the defensive set up matching up physically
BTW its BDB & he doesn't mind getting stuck in
He blocked a banger of a shot from close range & isn't one of those players to turn away he'd rather get hit in the face than let the oppo score  :hi:

Guehi, Quansa, and Konsa were also shithouses and hopeless with crosses .... get Stones and Burn in ....

Egypt were Robbed yesterday, Clear Favouritism yesterday.
What is it with Argentina and Luck?
I still remember what Maradona done in 86 and Now Messi gets away with dangerous fouls.

I hope they lose to Switzerland

I just did not see any difference between the foul given to Argentina that denied Egypt a goal and the foul NOT given to Egypt when Salah was tripped up that could have possibly resulted in a possible penalty 🤷🏼

I don't suppose the concern about Argentina and refereeing decisions could possibly be motivated by the consideration that Egypt were perceived as an easier draw for England.
Not like England to count their chickens .
I'm surprised they haven't already been ruminating whether they prefer Spain or France in the final.

Looking at these things through your Scottish goggles has left you somewhat blinkered. I know you're not used to knockout football but you can't really look more than one game ahead. Argentina's last 2 games were supposedly against easy oppo and they got taken to the wire both times. As far as Argentina is concerned, I wanted them to lose for a number of reasons: supporting the underdog, France 98...
More broadly, it does feel like this World Cup is being influenced by more than just what happens on the pitch.

In today's green focused world did the Scootish team plane share to head home with Holland & Germany [these countries get on so well] ?

Well this is the thing that Infantino has really fucked up and lost all credibility so now every and any decision will be criticised and scrutinised with an allegation of some sort of fix whether it is or not.

FFS bring back Sepp Blatter  :scare:

I'm used to knockout football.
I'm maybe not emotionally invested but I appreciate the spectacle.
Can't stand the commentators in general though.
Especially McCoist funnily enough
I'm already hearing that England have far better players than Norway and will dominate.
Let's see.
I'm predicting they'll park the bus because England always look a bit devoid of creativity when they do dominate possession.
Hence their reliance on setplays .

You dont stop Haaland by out muscling him - although shrinking violets need not apply - you stop him by cutting out his service so Gordon and Saka will be vital defensively

I expect a very difficult match against Norway and the defence is still lacking, at right back especially, will James be back?

I'm a bit surprised to read that you dislike McCoist. I like him, primarily because he's the only person in the world to use 'half a yard' as a ubiquitous measure, whether of speed, acceleration, space or distance. He can't go twenty minutes without saying it.

On the other hand if we win the bally thing we’ll never hear the end of it.  The triumphalism will go on for years.  And Sir Starmer will probably take the knee and insist on us having a bank holiday.

From today’s Times:  “Sir Keir Starmer plans to grant a bank holiday if England storm to victory in the World Cup.  Officials confirmed that the prime minister is seriously considering giving fans a day off work as one of his last acts in power.  He is due to leave No 10 on July 20, the day after the World Cup final in New Jersey. The day off would most likely be Friday, July 24.”

The report says that an additional bank holiday costs the economy £2.4 billion – though it's presumably more than that if it's “unexpected”  – and adds that there would be major implications for the NHS.  (It'd be a shame if you're an elderly person with a hip replacement scheduled for 24 July and England win the World Cup.  But shit happens.)

What a bunch of cnuts!
How much did that cost in favour money?

What do you think the punishment should have been, honestly?

One additional match on top of the automatic one match ban for a red card seems about right.

Agreed, the problem of course is the lack of any appeal avenue (unless you are DJT) and the question of whether it was 2 games worse in terms of opponent harm than Balogun - who was also sent off for serious foul play
