One of the biggest mis-conceptions about divorce is that committing adultery is instantly going to result in your wife taking you for every penny which is just not the case.  You can file a statement along the lines that your sex life had become intolerable leaving you feeling you had no choice but to look elsewhere. Divorce courts recognise that there are usually two sides to the story with adultery and generally it makes no difference to the financial settlement.   The financial side is really just an asset splitting exercise and the law doesn't take sides - any marital assets are added up into a pot and split 50/50 - again unless there are kids involved which complicates the process because you are expected to continue supporting them.

The only way I could see punting specifically counting against you in a settlement is if your wife knows how much you spent over the years - if it was tens of thousands they could argue they were entitled to a share of that.

Surely if the settlement is adjusted to take account of what you've spent putting then it should also take account of what she has spent on shoes, cushions and face grease (sorry, I should have said rejuvenating lotions)

Fuckin' hell, I might get divorced. With what my Mrs has spent on lotions, potions, clothes, shoes, make-up, nail varnish, visits to the beauticians, hairdressers, hair colourings and all the other things that women seem to need to spend money on over the years, I'd end up with everything!!

100% agree - I once printed out the details of a holiday we had just agreed and asked her to sign it, she looked at me gone out and i said it was so I had evidence we had agreed it when she started ranting at me.  There was no sex for a long time after that, but it was worth it!

I think it's to do with it being money that was effectively hidden from her - if you had a wife who was squirreling away 10's of thousands for stuff you never saw then it should indeed work the same way.   But there are lots of factors like who is petitioning for divorce, who is perceived to be in the wrong, is it contested or not etc etc.

The 'not ever having a bj despite being married' thyng certainly does happen although I think it's rare given that not too many people get married without a fair bit of sexual experience nowadays. All sounds good - in our case the complete reverse was true.

My philosophy has always been - the only constant in life is change. So you have to grow and change or you become stagnant, which to me is the same as dying.  My wife married me thinking - "perfect" and hoped I would never change.

I married her knowing there were some things about her that weren't "perfect" (but in my mind of course I know there's no such thing) so I hoped that either they'd change over time or I'd just get used to them. They didn't, and I didn't, and the things that annoyed me 13 years ago just got more and more frustrating over the years until I felt hopelessly trapped and depressed in a marriage I just wasn't happy with.  Life is too short for that shit.
