Sorry to jump in but I've been split with the wife for 18 months. Fairly amicable split and both want what's best for the kids etc. You say not to go to a solicitor. How did you do it if you don't mind me asking? I've looked online and it's a bit of a minefield with lots of conflicting advice.
Solicitors are expensive and just love a non amicable split, and will do their best to make it non amicable, there is no money it it for them otherwise, unless you know one very very well, and trust them then you are walking into big fees. They are in business to make money and business these days has no loyalty, it is money money money.
A short version of a long story, 3 siblings, left 7 million by a relative with no kids, 7 fucking million, and the solicitors have it all, turned them against one another, each told they deserved a bigger share by each solicitor, 2.5 million gone in fees and they have not seen a penny. Trust no one.
You can divorce without a solicitor if it is amicable, stay well away from them if you can, to put context, I have solicitors in the family, separated nearly 5 years now, there has been no need to divorce, she has her life, I have mine but we are still friends and have a joint bank account, I would do anything not to upset the apple cart and get solicitors involved, you will just be paying them money you could just give her to keep her happy. they will turn you against one another.
The world is a different place, business, any business is about money, no loyalty, no customer service, they cost money. CEO,s Directors and shareholders and money is all business is about apart from a few old school ones, and they are few and far between. Solicitors are no different. Ask Cherie Blair.
