I wouldn't go that far: but I do wonder if Londoners ever seriously ask themselves why do they live there? You can buy a small island -- literally -- for the price of a house. If you're rich enough to live in the white, central area, it feels like a performance to do anything as simple as visit a gallery or see a show (and Covent Garden must be one of the most uncomfortable opera houses in the world). People actually pay hefty memberships of places purely to be able to get a seat when they go for a drink. If you ask them, people will say "you get used to it" or make excuses: but why live in a place where you have to find excuses to justify it, or pay enormous sums to distract yourself from the reality?

If you live in one of the less wealthy Islamified suburbs, you may end up feeling like a permanent visitor when you come home. I've spent times in several Islamic countries and always felt incredibly welcome: but there are places in London where the hostility jumps out of the area near the mosque. It's like an unspoken, "This is a 'Muslim' area: what the fuck do you think you are doing here??" I know that is 'subjective' -- but I think many people will recognise the feeling if they live in such an area. Every other restaurant is a kebab shop, you just hear English spoken occasionally, most of the remaining white English people look as if they have given up, and if you want to make friends, your best bet is probably the Chinese takeaway owner or someone who is Black British and body language that says 'not Muslim.' You don't have the power to take back the city: wisdom surely suggests a retreat to somewhere you can find yourself, and find a quality for your life that you only live once.
