So Newcastle have released their financial results for the year ending June 2025. Interestingly, it appears that they sold St James’ Park, and the land adjacent to the stadium, to themselves, i.e. another PIF-owned company, also enabling them to book profit. I guess this practice will become the norm in the current climate.

And they made such a song and dance about doing everything fairly and not like Manchester City when they came in too

If it's within the rules / law then I guess a lot of clubs would / will do the same, I was thinking that the same piece of land / asset could theoretically then be sold back or between companies so that they get to buy it back cheaper and then sell it on again at top dollar but i'm thinking this would fall foul of the rules / law in the same way that excessive prices paid for shirt sponsorship deals was deemed to be wrong  :unknown:

What have they done that is against any rules?   :unknown:

If you understand the situation it's been done in order to get things in line for either an expansion of St James' Park or a new stadium.

BTW nobody said anything when Ashley sold the land opposite St James' that was owned by Newcastle United for £8 million. The PIF subsequently had to buy it back as without it the stadium couldn't be expanded.

Having said that unlike the PIF with this sale, Ashley didn't sell it to benefit the club, he pocketed the cash.

It isn't against any rules currently - but it's such a massive loophole that the rules are having to be changed to stop this sort of thing from next season. Supporters of clubs owned by these middle eastern regimes always proclaim that there are no rules being broken but we can all see as clear as day what's going on.

Just form two subsidiary companies within the same ownership group controlled by the Saudi Public Investment Fund and sell it back and forth to each other ad infinitum

They have potentially breached Uefa’s financial rules.

Do you honestly think they would be daft enough to break any rules regarding finances? They've had ample opportunity to ignore financial restraints but haven't, they even sold Eliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh in order to keep withing the FFP regulation instead of ignoring them an arguing about it later and maybe taking a minor points deduction like other clubs.

Quote
The club also undertook the reorganisation of its property holdings and group structure to support future investment in infrastructure, which was accounted for in accordance with FRS102 accounting rules. The 2025 financial results reflect a profit on disposal of £133.2m, which will be slightly adjusted in Financial Year 2026 based on results of a now-concluded Premier League fair market value process.

I know you should never answer a question with a question but here’s another way of looking at it: do you honestly think clubs set out to break financial rules, or do they sometimes end up there by misjudging how those rules are applied? It’s being reported that Newcastle could be subjected to a hefty fine from UEFA as UEFA don’t recognise profit generated by a club selling its stadium to a sister company. Intent isn’t really the point. It’s whether UEFA agree with how the transaction is being accounted for.

Some clubs just ignore the financial rules so yes they do set out to break them, so far Newcastle haven't been one of them.

I'm quite sure those in charge of the multi billion dollar PIF have a better idea of their finances and what any regulations are than me so I'll just wait and see what transpires.

This has always been England's problem. They can't beat the " big" teams when it comes to the crunch in major tournaments. We somehow managed to bluff our way to the final in the last European championship but were found wanting in the final against Spain.

Thanks for this - very interesting. From what I've seen recently I'd put PSG at the top. They are young, fast, aggressive, hungry, creative, powerful, skillful, and well organised.

Terrifying, in a nutshell.

In a full-page piece by Gregor Robertson in today’s Times under the headline, “Why I think Millwall are heading for the top flight”, Robertson predicts the following clubs as the top six in the Championship at the end of the season:
1.  Coventry City
2.  Millwall
3.  Ipswich Town
4.  Middlesbrough
5.  Southampton
6.  Hull City

And the bottom three as:
22.  Portsmouth
23.  Oxford City
(I don’t think so, Gregor!  Oxford City are currently 19th in National League North.)
24.  Sheffield Wednesday

Anyway, Millwall have just taken a decent step towards fulfilling Robertson’s prediction, beating Middlesbrough 2-1 away in a match that finished a few minutes ago.

If Millwall are promoted, and Spurs and West Ham survive – and my prediction, made on 29 March in Reply #3295, is that Forest will go down – there will for the first time ever be eight London clubs in the top division of English football!

Just watching the West Brom v Wrexham game ( supporting the baggies today) and full credit to their fans - a minutes applause for a 18 year old Birmingham city fan that went missing on an away game to Derby and later found dead in the river Derwent!

Good to see that local rivalry’s can be put aside for something like this.

And just as I write this , West Brom go 1-0!!!

& if there happens to be a hotel which you already own & want to sell back to yourself & generate a profit no problemo
If a wendy ball team value this @ an astronomical amount
Whats needed is a virtue signalling wealthy bloke to invest £20m for 10% valuing the WSL team @ £200m
The Premier League will green light both this & the hotel mullarkey
UEFA take a different view & dish out fines now who is right the PL or UEFA ?, my wager is on the latter
Far as the PL are concerned Chelsea can crack on

On the ever so valuable Chelsea WSL they posted £20m turnover & £17m loss
Factor in accounting fiddles the loss is likely to be higher
If they had shown the figures the other way round this would have been hilarious [£17m turnover & a £20m loss]

The 10* investment ratio for valuation is more like a dot com / IT / software business with high future potential
Lets face it whilst the WSL will see an expansion to suggest clubs it will ever make a profit is laughable
On the current & short to medium term performance i would value the Chelsea WSL team at closer to -£200m than +£200m
Probably somewhere in the middle which is about zero

If someone like Alexis Ohanian is klevva enuf to make around £150m current from R****t me thinks he's shrewd enuf to work out that he is unlikely to see his £20mill investment back
Make me think what motivations / [unwritten] guarantees Boehly & Co provided ?

I sooo hope Chelsea dont make the top 5 for CL & next season they are totally up a certain creek financially
& this is after them posting the biggest ever loss in the PL

mr.b most bookies have stop taking bets on Cov being promoted
two more wins & thats it, i'll let you do the maths
specially if the teams just below don't win
ipswich could join you in the automatic with two games in hand

a key benefit when promotion secured early is that the higher ups in the club can start thinking about next season in the Prem
the focus at the mo to get there
once achieved plans on transfers out & in to strengthen the squad can start
in some ways more problematic staying up than getting up

even leeds with a big fan base gate receipts a draw for tv matches & lucrative sponsorship from Red Bull have struggled
the financial rules [which are changing] particularly impact promoted clubs
so its how much the Cov board are able / willing to invest
go for staying up or set the club up for the next 5 years plus yo yo stuff

anyways congrats @mr.b for cov
& i hope to see Cov playing Leeds next season 🤞🤞
if the cheating cunts Leicester get relegated this will be even better

Watching the Championship, and how much difficulty are Leicester City in.

Going from competing in the premier league, and then winning the league, and now competing in the Championship

But looks like worst times are coming, and currently in 22nd place, out of 24, and looks like they will be relegated to league one, but

On Reddit, there saying if Leicester City, end up in league one, its possible the club will go into administration, it will be a shame if this happens

Cheers webbie  :drinks: Coventry only have a single owner in Doug King so we would need more investors to come in. We have an obligation to sign Frank Onyeka full time from Brentford should we get promoted and we need to sign goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton who's had an outstanding season for us on loan from Brighton. I think most Coventry fans know that if we finish outside the bottom three in the Premier league that will be a major achievement. We play Blackburn Rovers away before the end of the season. Hopefully promotion or the league title will have been secured by then so we wouldn't be too unhappy if they were to win to help push those cheating East Midland fuckers I mean foxes down

Ideally promotion secured & be subtle throw the match to help see the EMFs go down
I'm sure you will be Champions but coming 2nd & the EMFs relegated worthwhile
If the situation arose that Leeds could have done this & see 'Wilder is a Wanker' relegated deffo
& the fans have the last laarf we only did it to see you go down  :D

Finishing outside the bottom three always the target 🤞take things from there
IMO Fat Frank would be best served by staying next season & be given the resources to mount a challenge to stay up
At Norwich Farke had no chance hopefully at Leeds better
If FF aint given a chance stay for the season [on bonuses for this season + a big pay rise] show some managerial loyalty & then move on subsequently
