[Unwise to respond - but ...]

Partial immunity stops transmission. This is obvious.

Not completely - that is also obvious.

As I said, they told us you won't get Covid if you get the vaccine:

Banned reason: Habitual troll type posts after assuring that sort of thing would stop.

No - at best partial immunity reduces transmission but that is not how it was originally sold

Right, so it stops transmission, but not completely.

For the majority of the people listening, because of the effect in the overall population, that would be true.

It's a public information message, not a scientific analysis.

Had my flu jab and covid booster last week, got covid this week   :dash:

Fully aware that it likely would be much worse if I hadn't had the booster.

The vaccine takes up to 2 weeks to start working (e.g. External Link/Members Only) which leads some people to believe that the vaccine is ineffective if they catch covid in the interim.  :hi:

That is not how it was sold to us. I can pull a million clips of prime ministers, other politicians, medical leaders and Bill Gates telling us the vaccine would stop transmission.
In that case, you saw different TV to me, although I don't watch much TV.
As for Boris Johnson, a proven congenital liar, I think anything he had to say can be discounted, and the medical experts would have been instructed to toe the party line.
Even I knew that none of the vaccines provided Immunity, but they would reduce the effects/symptoms of Covid which could be a life saving result if, like me, you were in a vulnerable group.

As for your symptoms, you have no idea if you would have felt the same without the vaccine. I never took the vaccine, I don't know if I got Covid as I didn't obsessively test myself, I did get what felt like a normal cold. My brother-in-law who had all the boosters got Covid and he was knocked out for two weeks.

FFS let it go.  We have all been around the houses so many times on this - you are not changing opinions now.  Most of us have a reasonable understanding of the how the vaccine works and what it achieves and against that the downside risks.  We have decided that it is worth taking.  You have made a different decision which is fine.  Just accept that people have different views, often based on their different circumstances and get on with life.  Oh and remember that tin foil hat when you go out.

Right, so it stops transmission, but not completely.

no it reduces transmission; just as you can reduce speed in your car but that isnt stopping; it might lead to stopping but as long as you are moving you arent stopped. You are either stopped or moving; you can be moving a little bit or slowly but you cant be slightly stopped - its an absolute
Sort of the reverse to pregnancy - just as you cant be a little bit pregnant.

Now you could argue that it stops transmission in some people but not others but AFAIK that hasnt been claimed. I havent seen figures but usually it is argued that a reduction in viral load leads to lower transmission - although there are lots of other factors

In a population of ~70 million there will be billions upon billions of events in which transmission would be possible and it either "happens" or it is "stopped". And yes, binary, not a little bit "stopped" - the "recipient" or "recipients" does not get ill or display symptoms or develop a viral load or whatever other measure you wish to use.

The outcome of most of these events will be "stopped" as a result of an effective vaccine. "Effective" or "Stopped" does not mean 100% "Stop" events because that is unlikely in a large biological system with billions of such events.

With effective vaccination most transmission will be stopped upstream, because much less of the population will be carrying an infection which could be transmitted. From a population perspective transmission has been effectively stopped.

We are not going to agree on this and is probably off topic for the thread. I've put forward my argument so I'll leave it there.

Are you Rishi Sunak in disguise ?

by the same argument he could claim that he  "stopped the boats"
OK so he didnt stop them all but if he stopped even 2 he could claim to have stopped the boats !

I wouldn't want you to take the time needed to post 1 million clips. That would be just silly.

I'll settle for 300,000.
