Five people have been arrested after a suspected brothel was raided by police.

Officers searched the commercial premises on Front Street in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, at about 07:00 BST on Wednesday.

Two men, aged 63 and 28, and two women, aged 47 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking for sexual exploitation and taken into custody for questioning.

A third man, aged 43, was also arrested on suspicion of human trafficking for sexual exploitation after a second raid on an address in Southport, Merseyside.

Ch Insp Alfie Keane, of Durham Constabulary, said officers would remain at both addresses while search teams continued to examine the properties.

Search teams have remained at the Chester-le-Street site throughout the day and a closure order has been issued.

Location – the new(ish) place in Chester-Le-Street. Parking nearby, maybe not overly descreet if local but certainly not glaringly obvious

It’s down from Amy’s.  Opposite Lloyd’s bank.

She is I believe the sister of Jopan from Southport's Post office Ave,  she certainly looks like her ...
Jopan herself might be pushing 60 but with a body of someone 1/2 that age,
plus knowing exactly what extra's we look for at a reasonable price,

Both links dead.

that confirms that link between the two raids, especially given  this

I would suggest so.

Manee who was running the post office avenue premises in jopans absence has worked in Chester le Street. So did wa wa who has also returned to Thailand.

Jopan once told me that  the premises in Chester le Street was owned/ run by her ex husband.

Begs the question of who  the ex-husband is....

I saw Jopan a week or so ago, as I've have been seeing her fairly regularly over the past 5 or so years, she told me that she was leaving for Thailand on the 10th, when I asked for how long - she said she didn't know!

Normally when she does return there for a holiday, she has always been able to tell me when she'd be back .. not this time

While I think it is Jopan herself that runs Post Office Ave, I got the impression it is her ex husband that run the Chester-le-Street place, as Jopan along with a rather cute young Thai that had recently started at Post Office Ave, both left for C-le-S when it opened, Jopan returned to Southport a month later

It is her sister in the other shop too, Jopan did say she'd eventually be coming to Southport - I mentioned to her then to book me down for a 4 hand !!!

I had been planning to see Meena too, better wait to see what happens now though!!!

From what I can gather the raid was on a new place, the others in Chester-Le-Street have been going for quite a while without any issues.

There were two ads on vivastreet for the place where you go in using the stairs at the back of the shop yesterday, both ads gone now.

Presumably that's a completely different enquiry?

It's not even the same type of place, the Chester-Le-Street raid was a massage parlour, Durham Courtesans is an escort agency and the Carville place is a flat and as Kev said they are still advertising?

Perhaps Todd Landers can link to the report of the raid.

Knowing a copper I can confirm Durham Constabulary are fully aware of where service providers work and of AW listings. I Was even informed of Carrville place before I knew of Durham Courtesans by said PC. However they are very tolerant. I suspect Massage parlours are raided due to potential modern day slavery/trafficking.

That said PC wants sacking for disclosing that sort of information

Not really. That sort of thing is common knowledge, and comments like that are part of  the psychological pressure put on traffickers.

I believe the visit from the local constabulary was due to complaints from residence.

Can you link to reports of this happening? as Durham Courtesans is an escort agency not a massage parlour like the place raided in Chester-Le-Street, which was raided due to suspected human trafficking.

If a flat, like that used by DC, is causing issues the police/council normally issue a cease and desist notice, they don't arrest those working from it willingly.

Any recent police raids in the NE have been on Asian massage parlours and Romanian owned flats both for human trafficking offences.

Why would there be a media report for a police visit. They’ve obviously visited the property following a complaint as they are obliged to do. No further action by the look of it but it was enough to put off the SP who told me from working there.

In your reply #10 you described the event as a "raid", which could reasonably be expected to be newsworthy.
If you're now saying that it was simply a "police visit" then there's a different set of circumstances. Just shows how you need to be accurate in reporting events. Are we to understand now that there was no  "raid", and no arrests?

Offline Todd Landers

Sorry. I take back my raid and would like to replace it with police visit.

It's not a raid then is it? the police do 'welfare check' visits to flats that escorts use though I only know for a fact this happens in the Northumbria force area but it would be reasonable to assume Durham have a similar policy.

Just to clarify this thread is about a raid on a massage parlour where people were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, police visits to flats used by escort agencies has nothing to do with it. If escort agencies are out of line they do something about it like they did with NG. You may have noticed another NE agency hasn't had any availability for a while as well but that hasn't got anything to do with this thread either.

Acting on community-based intelligence, Durham Constabulary carried out a pre-planned search warrant at a commercial premises on Front Street, in Chester-le-Street, shortly after 7am on Wednesday 12 June.

Two men, aged 63 and 28, and two women, aged 47 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking for sexual exploitation and taken into custody for questioning.

I should also add that having sexual contact with an agency girl in an agency flat is not illegal whether it's classed as a brothel or not, whereas having sexual contact with a girl who has been trafficked is illegal, though it would be highly unlikely it would be deemed in the public interest to trace ex clients and prosicute.  In past raids in the NE it has only been the traffickers who have action taken against them.

Where?
Chester-le-Street or Southport?
And which lady?
