TBH American wrestling showed us how it should be done. There was some fantastic British wrestlers like Adrian Street who is retired, but still alive, who is now known as the man who ended Savile's wrestling career, but he was incredibly skilled and made even more remarkable for being a short bloke. Where it went downhill was people like Big Daddy and Giant Haysticks doing belly flops against each other. Yes, American wrestling is scripted, heavily choreographed and even planned months in adavance, but that doesn't detract from the characters created or even the fact that it is a display of athletic ability like all sports; I think the fact it is fake is a moot point as it is basically theatre.
Nothing wrong with WWF wrestling as long as it's accepted for what it is, scripted theatrical entertainment and not a combative sport. There was a guy on here years ago who was adamant that it was real fighting, he went quiet when I posted a link to an official advert for scriptwriters.

There are forms of combat wrestling like Brazilian jiu-jitsu which is incorporated by some fighters in MMA.

The late Pat Roach moved on from wrestling into film and TV with some success, his debut being in A Clockwork Orange and his final role as 'Bomber' in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

Sport. All of it.

Seafood. I can manage plain fish in batter or breadcrumbs but I'd rather starve than eat a prawn or oyster.

Most green veg. The smell of broccoli is enough to make me puke.

Astral Weeks by Van Morrison. I like a lot of his other stuff but the one that my fellow music bores rave about the most drives me up the wall. Same goes for Marquee Moon by Television.

Leading on from seafood, fish and chips.
I like the chips and accompanying curry/ mushy peas if done right, but rare that the fish part is done well. Even when it is it's still average tasting imo. And quite expensive now

Adrian Street died in July last year.
You're right. I saw an interview with him before Christmas and presumed he was still alive.

There was also Nosher Powell who was a boxer turned stuntman actor.

Technically the wrestling on TV other than in the Olympics is like fights you see in films were punches and kicks don't land, but they often get hurt. They also do safe falling.

I should have put Breaking Bad on my “things I think are overrated” comment earlier in the thread.  It’s a perfect example for me - it is so often put at the very top of “Greatest TV show” lists and although I think it’s good, there are many other things I’d put ahead of it.  The final 2 series weren’t a patch on the first 3 and had they left it there (I have a feeling there were significant changes in the production company between series 3 and 4), I would hold it in higher regard.

Couldn’t get into the Sopranos, although I only tried to watch it years and years after it had finished, by which time it felt quite dated to me.
I'm with you on dated. TV has become much more slicker since.
I've given it enough of my time to reach a judgement and will respectfully disagree with you.

Two of the best mafia series/films I've ever seen are Gomorrah and Suburra (to a lesser degree). They're both subtitled which puts a lot of people off from watching them though.
I've not seen the shows you mentioned, but I get were you are coming from and can't knock anyone who tries to watch a show and can't get into it. There's been loads over the years I tried but didn't enjoy: ER, West Wing, Desperate Housewives, Sex and the city, Family Guy I can take or leave, most sci-fi and fantasy stuff.

Gone to the big wrestling ring in the sky as have most if not all the wrestlers from the British wrestling heyday.
Jim Breaks is another one who died just before Christmas last year. Known as "cry baby" because of his tantrums in the ring.

Maybe Prime Video doesn't present itself that well. I find it very difficult to find anything new and of interest. I know they have some classic films (Witness to the Prosecution has been lingering in my watchlist for months) but a lot of their movies, docs and series remain unchanged even after several months.

With Netflix, I can leave it a week and I'll find a handful of great docs or series to watch.
Netflix is probably leading the way on true crime docs even over Discovery+ and Five.

I think the originals make the subscription worth it, but it is poor for anything classic. The reality to get the best for the serious film fan they probably need to subscribe to the big three (Amazon, netflix, Disney plus). Paramount plus serms really good for comedy as well.

Transgender females competing in sports, wrong by all accounts, and a unfair advantage over other females

Transgender female volleyball team made up with transgender females, beat the other team.  The other team had some injuries because of this transgender team, so when hitting the ball, the transgender team have the strength of male athletes.  One of the female players  ended up with a broken jaw, and they speculate this could have been a lot worse

Transgender female boxer, competing against female opponent, what could go wrong here

Transgender female golfer beat all the other females

But this other transgender female is currently in the news in America

Lia Thomas, who was originally known as Will Thomas and a male swimmer, who had a world ranking of around 450.  But after transgendering to female, and competed against other females, began to beat all records.  She also shares the same changing room with other females, and still has her penis, but dosnt use a cubicle, she openly changes in front of other females, and some of them under 16 yr old

But it the next thing, Lia is suing the Commonwealth and Olympic sports, that they are discriminating her, by not allowing her to compete in the women's swimming category.   If she wins this court case, then i think this will be big news, coverage will be world wide, and would other countries pull out of the womens swimming, as it would be like Lia Thomas is cheating, and almost guaranteed to win GOLD

The NHS / Govt are facing legal action over transitioning
By some for making it to easy & others for making it too difficult
& also for not providing enough mental health provision for these mixed up people
Just to make it even better & add to the costs often they will get legal aid so its in the interest of money chasing lawyers to encourage them

IMO there are enough demands on NHS mental health from people dealing with all sorts of stress [like service personnel with PTSD] without self induced losers overwhelming the services
Service personnel & people in the police fire service & ambulance staff repetitively seeing stuff which no one wants to have every right to be helped
Not people identifying as whatever, one week its one thing & the next its another and they do some attention seeking along the way

Oooh look at me, they really should keep quiet as most people laarf at them
Unfortunately its not a laughing matter
They cost the NHS a fortune, the same for local councils having to provide for trans toliets & changing rooms in places like swimming pools sports centres

I have good friends who are trans.  They deserve all the rights and liberty same as anyone.  Live your life as you wish. Do sport.  Just avoid competing in sport as a woman, don't expect to be put in a woman's jail and don't go to a woman's only crisis centre. Simples.

Listen here, this country was made on people drinking cup of tea

If it's too bland then perhaps you aren't making it right  :unknown:
You do need to use water that is properly boiling (apparently) so as soon as it's finished the boil but the key point for me is that IMO most people don't let it brew for long enough.
I've seen people only leave the tea bag in for about 30 seconds so they really only have coloured water, I saw a program once that said it needs to brew for at least 5 minutes to get a decent amount of flavour, I normally brew mine for between 5-10 minutes and don't add too much milk

I'd agree with all these fruit and mint flavour teas though which are IMO overrated (see how I spelt it in one whole word ), I had a blackcurrant tea once and basically couldn't taste anything remotely like tea, it was basically like drinking a very weak cup of warm Ribena

I was away with work once and at the afternoon buffet / drinks station some guy thought he'd try once of these fruit teas Raspberry and fucking Gojo berry or some such shit but he didn't realise you aren't supposed to put milk in them  :D

It's been around for at least 20 years seemingly but the apparent trend for not cooking food enough.

I don't mind some veg being slightly Al dente so you get a slight crunch and it's better than what my Gran used to do which was to boil it for 2 days and boil all the goodness out etc but i've had a few occasions where things simply haven't been cooked enough to the point they aren't actually warmed through properly
Cut into the middle and it's stone cold or in some instances when things have just come out of the freezer and heated it's actually been icy in the middle

I'll single out eggs where the trend is to keep the yolk runny, I don't mind a slightly runny yolk and agree that you don't want it cooked to the point of it becoming hard and rubbery but FFS at least cook it through as there is a potential food safety issue with consuming uncooked eggs
Again away on business many years ago and I always enjoy a full English breakfast  It wasn't a big chain hotel and I was asked how I wanted my egg cooking, the options included poaching which is my favourite so I went for that and watched as this guy used some strange technique using a couple of cups with the egg in to poach it
Went I came to eat it the white was OK but the yolk was stone cold and I mean chilled in the middle, i'm guessing the egg had been in the fridge

On another corporate day I was given a hot scotch egg and had never has a scotch egg with a runny yolk in it before, 1st when I bit into it I burnt my fucking mouth and 2nd all this egg yolk squirted out and down the front of my shirt
I spent the next few hours surrounded by smartly dressed people while I was also smartly dressed but with a big yellow stain down my front  :diablo:

As a commercial enterprise I'm sure someone would be willing to broadcast it. Trans campaigners may not accept it , but would the actual trans community? I don't know.

Pretty sad that we don't even see male vs female football matches or singles tennis unless it is friendly.

I just don't get why some people fail to see the advantage testosterone has when it comes to anything competition related

I dont give a monkeys whether its viable or not
Give them to green light to crack on, infact insist upon it

The trans lot dont want to compete in male events coz they know that they'd win diddly
So they want to compete in womens events coz they know that they stand a much higher chance of winning
& they get the attention they crave

The trans campaigners & others from whichever social group it is seem to be able to make lots of noise from not many of them
If they wont accept it ... face bothered
I'm detecting a change in public opinion resulting in relation for example to Parkrun deleting all data from races
Interviews with runners participating in these events [men & women] are very disappointed that Parkrun have taken this approach
Some friendly rivalries between runners, i got the impression that some of them competed at a reasonably high level when younger
Parkrun concerned that issues relating to guess what ?
They say that they've done this because their races aren't competitive
This is bollox, its down to the issue of them definining [or not] whether female runners are actually trans
They dont want to draw criticism from the vociferous trans brigade so they bottle it
Tho i can see where they are coming from getting grief on it
So a few trans runners scupper it for everyone else, quelle surprise
IMO the Govt should set laws providing for three categories:  male female & trans.  On everything
When it comes to sports or anything else for that matter the trans brigade can decide amongst themselves about further sub categories:  male to female & the reverse
Do a study take opinions do votes, whatever works for them.  Few people outside their group are remotely interested so let them argue amongst themselves
