Hamish Ogston founded CPP selling credit card insurance to millions of customers. He received a CBE in 2011 from Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace and at one point his fortune was over £500million
Yet the following year it all threatened to come crashing down in a mis-selling scandal. CPP, it transpired, had been providing protection already covered by banks for free. Consumers were parting with their money for a product they did not know they did not need. CPP was fined £10.5 million but the banks were left to pay most of the  £1.3 billion compensation

Today, a Sunday Times investigation reveals evidence that suggests for the last 15 years he has engaged in the exploitation of vulnerable southeast Asian sex workers. Documents suggest Ogston has trafficked or attempted to traffic Thai and Filipina sex workers, and hosted women who entered the country as tourists only to stay at his property and engage in sex work.

Its an interesting article comparing his philanthropy to some fairly dodgy goings on. Its behind a paywall but no doubt other papers will pick it up

It works. Fascinating - and depressing about how people who should know better did nothing.

An interesting read this morning in the Sunday Times how this former establishment figure seems to become embroiled in bringing Thai/ Philippine women in for sex work.

He is one of the most wealthy guys in the country worth over £120m - makes you wonder why he was doing such dodgy stuff when he could have enjoyed a much lower risk approach.

I bet he and his family are having a shit day today

Read it this morning. With that amount of money you'd think there would be a legal way of getting what he was after. Or maybe when you are that rich you think the odd bit of lawbreaking is ok.
All assuming it's true in the way it's written.

Just finished reading it in The Sunday Times, it’s quite the story.

What was he doing that was dangerous (to them)  and separately needed medicine in advance?  Anal sex and bareback or some combination?

It seems the girls also worked at other Thai brothels so members here may have seen the same girls.  Yikes.  Close to home.

It seems like he denies crimes, but if even part of this is true, from what he has admitted, he seems like a bad man.

Sounds like he has upset someone who is now having him hung out to dry.

You do indeed, I reckon that if shagging your housekeeper, especially if they are from a foreign land, was against the law then there would be a lot of catholic priests trembling in their cassocks this morning.

Ciprofloxacin, the prescription only anti-biotic mentioned is used for all kinds of things, but mainly bacterial infections it would seem.

I wondered if Hamish might be a member here, and low and behold there are a good few JMacs and derivatives listed.
