I did hear that the mayor of london banned tommy robinson from entering all london boroughs.
Whether you agree or disagree with any person views, that is quite scary to be honest. :scare:
FFS, it's only scary because of people posting half the story to suit their own agendas.

He's banned from within the M25 as part of his bail conditions while he awaits trial for refusing to obey a police dispersal order and I think you'll find courts can set any bail conditions they think appropriate.

As is the case with all conspiracy theory protagonists, which we've seen on this thread several times already.

Anybody with half a brain would know the mayor of London hasn't got the power to ban anybody.

His bail was set by police, not the courts. You'll probably find when it gets to court a less strict condition will be set. Police are often OTT with the conditions they set.

I wanted to pay by card in a restaurant yesterday.  Bill came to over £100 but they told me I can have 10% off if I paid cash, so I did.  :D (knock off the 10% service charge)

While I appreciate businesses  should pay their fair share of tax blahdy blah, a lot of brick and mortar businesses are suffering from rip off business rates/rent. Got a mate who constantly tells me it’s a struggle with a shop although I think he’s doing everything by the book. Maybe a little different to a restaurant as you only have so many tables and chairs but the number of shops closing down around the country is clearly visible.

Maybe some business types like food places need to reduce their tax bill by being a bit creative to survive at times. Better than them all closing down.  My local kebab place also allergic to taking cards despite having the facility. Some may well rely on cash as an option to survive.

You should really check your facts before posting and making a fool of yourself, he was in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday 22nd January 2024 and the bail conditions remain.

Quote
Tommy Robinson has denied a criminal offence after he allegedly refused to leave a march against antisemitism.

The far-right figure, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley Lennon, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday accused of breaching a police dispersal order.

The 40-year-old wore a blue shirt and a grey waistcoat. He spoke only to confirm his identity and denied breaching a section 35 direction excluding him from an area.

District Judge Briony Clarke set a trial date for 22 April at City of London Magistrates’ Court.

Under his bail conditions, he is not allowed to enter London within the M25. He is also banned from organising or attending any protests.

I have no problem with them doing this as it's not a level playing field. Their big multinational competitors have all kinds of tax avoidance schemes which puts the local businesses at a massive disadvantage.

Nothing to do with intelligence, just a simple matter of checking facts before posting.

Sometimes it's better to say nothing and let people think you're a fool than post something and prove it.

What I find baffling in today's world of the "Information Superhighway" is that it's so easy to make a few strokes of your keyboard and check on things.

Most intelligent people with a reasoned sense of what's going on in the world would be cautious and probably not take at face value, something they are being told is going to have a profound effect on their life and civil liberties. That's why people (me for example) get offended when I see what appears to be a reasonably intelligent person, posting things sensationalising matters that are clearly factually wrong.

On another small note;

PumpDump posted a search result from ChatGP - I had never thought of using it that way (to ask a long string question) until his post - @PumpDump :hi:  :drinks:

I tried using it for a long string question about a jurisdictional matter for an impending court case I have - it's blooming fantastic!!

It summarised the position / stance I can take in a really well crafted response. I've taken that and have made a request to have the court dismiss the claim on the grounds that ChatGPT informed me (I didn't tell the court ChatGPT told me )

I'll let you know this week how that worked out.

where he claimed the mayor had banned Tommy Robinson from London, I pointed out that it was actually the courts that set his bail conditions not the mayor.

You involved yourself to say I was wrong and it was the police not the courts and the conditions would be relaxed once he had appeared in court. Don't blame me for you not checking the facts.

I admitted I was wrong. You have a condescending and arrogant attitude to people in here for no reason. I've noticed the site is not as busy as it used to be, certainly not as many reviews. We should all do our part to make people feel welcome and not throw verbal insults such as "fool" and "idiot" at them.

By this 'genuine' apology you mean. "You are correct. My deepest apologies for not living up to your high standards of intelligence."

Like I said don't blame me for you making a fool of yourself when trying to be clever. I was never talking to you, you chose to respond on behalf of the person I was talking to.

The site ethos is to offer members help, guidance and encouragement and that is what all the mods do, however I personally, as a member, do not suffer fools gladly, if you don't like the way I reply to you save your communications with me for moderation issues and don't involve yourself in any discussions I have with others.

BTW the number of new posts have remained steady since 2014.

If you don't like it ignore me and don't get involved with conversations I'm having with other members. If you look at what I posted I did not call you a fool I said you were making a fool of yourself by not checking facts before trying to prove me wrong

If you think I'm in any way out of order then hit the report button, otherwise leave it here and if any other members feel the same they can do likewise, but don't try to make yourself a self appointed spokesperson.

BTW sarcasm is the lowest form of wit (another well known saying like the one I used in reply #259) and your 'apology' was exactly that.

You are just repeating yourself and there has been enough derailing of the thread so either report it or leave it.

That is very interesting, I'd love to hear the outcome. It will be funny if the other party also asks ChatGPT to draft their submission. And then if the judge feeds both submissions in to ChatGPT and asks it to issue the ruling! All of this is possible. In fact, maybe there is no need for solicitors and judges in the future, we can just use AI to decide everything.

The case was today and I successfully got it dismissed :yahoo: , primarily on the erroneous application by the claimant. The claimant then tried to change the pleading in the application to suit the applicable law, but was further advised to drop the claim on the basis of Territorial jurisdiction, which is the part that ChatGPT helped me with.

I knew that Territorial jurisdiction was an issue with the claim, but didn't know how to "phrase" my dismissal request. ChatGPT pretty much covered that.

What you "cash" evangelists fail to grasp is that you are all paid through your bank, so your money is already in the banking system before you get hold of it.

How the f&!k does it make sense to take that money out of the bank and only exchange it hand to hand, and then go around believing that you're beating the system?

If the system wanted to beat you it wouldn't let you draw the cash out in the first place - you don't realise that you're just whipping boys for the conspiracy theory brigade. It's the conspiracy theorists who usually quote the Canadian Truckers banking freezes.

The truckers started their protests against the requirement to cross in to the US only if you were vaccinated. This protest then got hijacked by the conspiracy theory brigade and moved in to a much wider general protest about Covid restrictions. Part of the reason for the freezing of their accounts (and it wasn't that many people that had their accounts frozen) was because of the influx of funds from anonymous sources helping to fund widespread insurrection (AKA terrorism) against the Government and the anonymous funding of protests about covid restrictions.

We have similar legislation already in the UK to prevent funding of terrorism - so if the Government want to use it, they will.

The only way you're going to get anywhere near close to living in society without CCTV, ANPR, Digital Banking, Privacy Laws, government mandates and so on, is to buy yourself a plot of land, grow your own food, pull water from your own well, dig a cesspit, take on wood whittling as a hobby, gather fire wood to cook.

Off you trot, back to the dark ages.

That's not correct, not everyone uses banks for cash, it's already in the undocumented free market, sure you can scoff all you like. We might have a fairly liberal government at the moment, what happens if it ever began to be as draconian as China? Like using face recognition cameras, already used in UK, like spying on your smart meters, already happening in UK, or banks closing peoples accounts because they don't like the customers political views, that's UK too.

The Canadian trucker protest was about crossing the US border true, the Canadian government were trying to force the truckers to take a experimental covid injection, or not allowed to cross the border, which goes against the Nuremberg laws against coercing the public to take medical treatment against their will, like what the nazis did. It was average members of the Canadian and US public who donated to the truckers. A federal court has now ruled that Justin Castro was wrong in calling the emergencies act.

His bail was set by police, not the courts. You'll probably find when it gets to court a less strict condition will be set. Police are often OTT with the conditions they set.

That is correct, police can make up any bail condition they fancy at the time. A good example when they got him for lending £10k for a deposit to his Brother in law for a mortgage, they stipulated on his licence conditions not to contact anyone in the EDL, how has so called mortgage fraud anything to do with Tommy's political activism?

As for his arrest in London, he was attending a protest against anti Semitism as a journalist, the organisers didn't want him there, so they got the Met to act as their enforcers. In a so called free country, why should a free man be ordered to leave a area when he is being peaceful and orderly? The people in fancy dress uniform said his attendance may cause alarm and distress to others. When did the Police become thought and hurty feeling protectors? From watching those who attended that march there were some high profile politicians like Bojo and other MP's, they didn't want to be seen in the same company as Tommy Robinson. He got arrested this Saturday at Crystal Palace for attending the CRY v LUT game with his kids, the police don't use any discretion, we don't live in a free country, sure some folk will laugh because they might not like Tommy, they might not laugh long when they could be next.

It's not scoffing, it's separating the part truths, from the whole truth. This is typical of what a conspiracy theorists relies upon; telling something that is true, then intertwining it with their lie.

Debanked - and that's happened to how many people?

Experimental - can you substantiate that, and was this any different to the Covid injection that everyone else was given?

And exactly how many truckers bank accounts were restricted?

The truckers may well have had funds donated from ordinary members of the public, the reason they had their accounts blocked was because there were significant suspect anonymous donations

It is technically possible. And similar systems exist in China, have you seen their social credit system? To me, London feels more and more like China all the time.

And it would be possible for them to completely stop yoir ability to buy if you pissed them off.

Can I suggest the best thing for you to do is go off grid, find a nice hut in the wilderness of North America and never use the banking system again and power and the internet again. You will feel safe and we will be given a rest from the crap you spout.

Exactly, his connects wirelessly, nothing is safe.

Once all of our fridges and cookers have connectivity, the Chinese won't have to invade, they'll just starve us to death remotely. They won't cut our electric off, otherwise they wouldn't be able to show us their political broadcasts after hacking our TV's.

Don't worry Davie you are perfectly safe; there is an anti-malware, anti-hacking mechanism in the Bill Gates Vaccine chip.

Exactly, his connects wirelessly, nothing is safe.
I always though they put a zip in your chest so they could take it out easily to twiddle the knobs to adjust it but no, it is by wifi. Well I'm saying that it might be bluetooth but whichever it is it is remote so open to hacking.

I suppose how fast a heart is beating will be useful information to someone, maybe they could link it to how much electricity is being used when they've hacked the smart meter as well.

I believe that they have to take them out at some point to change the batteries?

I wasn't talking to you but as you've joined in, according to you - "It is a fact that any electronic device can be hacked." a pacemaker is an electronic device that connects remotely to a computer so can be hacked, however if they ever would be is as much of a ridiculous idea as someone hacking a smart meter.

I can't be arsed to find it but someone posted a link to show that smart meters have been hacked but that was individual meters being interfered with in order to steal electricity, it wasn't some foreign power hacking a central computer to cut the UK's power.

People are taking the piss mate.

They don't change the batteries, they change the whole thing. It's done as an out patient, in and out the same day.

I should add with a local anaesthetic as well.

Also with one particular make of pacemaker they don't need to be hacked, when the battery gets down to about 2 years life left they can change the settings all by themselves.

I've never had an escort mention it or worry about it if I've pointed it out.

Sainsbury's has a problem with an overnight update to it's IT systems.
Unable to process home delivery orders. Many stores can process sales check out , however a good number are cash only ......
Don't know if they still have a wim-wham for card sales, but they're quite risky for fraudulent card usage.
Likely to be brand damaging, many shoppers will avoid today, and head to a competitor.....

I was in Sainsburys earlier (was already in there and unaware of  the issues untilI heard them announce over the tannoy). 2 of my cards didn’t work (using chip & PIN) despite the correct PIN, Sainsburys gift card also failed.  Another card worked with Chip n PIN in the end but it was a bit chaotic as many people had to abandon their shopping as they literally couldn’t pay.

It wasn’t just contactless.

I use Apple Pay most often but I still carry cash and cards but I know people who only use their phones these days.

It's worrying. I remember back in the day when there wqs a complete power cut. The local shops stayed open, trade could still take place as people used cash. If that happened now, we'd be fucked.

Imagine a card only shop had this issue and it went on a few days…Its either fall back and take cash or make £0 until things are fixed. Food places sell perishables so can’t really leave stuff in shelves for long.

Oh and another fail for Sainsburys.  One guy behind me mentioned he needed to use smartshop to get the nectar price. Smartshop was also buggered at the time.

Some supermarkets are doing this thing where they price items at rip off prices on purpose but offer a discount if you have the loyalty card.  Recently, I bought some Tuna and it was priced at £7-£8 normal price but £3.70 if you got a nectar card. If I nipped in to grab specific things like this and I couldn’t get the lower price, I’d abandon my shopping too.

Markets and boot sales are also predominantly cash only. Don’t think most fruit sellers want to equip themselves with card facilties.
