Military veterans have been over paid pensions due to clerical / admin errors so their pensions have now been cut to what they should be, OK fair enough however they are now being asked to repay the money.

It's not totally clear to me from reading the article whether this is a Govt error or the private company but IMO these over payments should be wiped, one guy even rang the company when his pension went up 5 or 6 years ago to check if the increase was a mistake and was told that it wasn't so he's spent the money and adjusted his standard of living accordingly

You can't make it up  :dash:
The stress it will cause the veterans & their families immense
The contractor blames the muppets at the DWP & vice versa
All for £5m of which about £300k has been collected

Veterans seen as an easy target by the Govt
Hounded over northern ireland & the special forces in Afghan & Iraq its another shocker
Indeed it should be wiped & veterans paid back under payments

Come on Burnham do it
You've just given £5m to Nepal for the optics tell them you overlooked the veterans issue & so its cancelled, soz
Or get Farage to pay for either Nepal or the Veterans [his choice] he was gifted £5m for supposedly nothing in return
Conservatively migrants cost £10bn per year
= £27m a day lets call it £1m per hour ish
The £5m covers about 5 hours
& the £300k recovered around 18 mins
Thats enuf politics me thinks happy to switch it to the sink hole thread

What a bunch of cunts the DWP & Govt are
Wouldn't be surprised if the DWP staff being paid overtime to correct their fuck up

Holy smoke, as far as Asda you say, that would involve travelling as far as Park Royal or Roehampton.

Maybe I can live without fig rolls fora bit longer.

All the 9/11 programmes on TV. The relatives of the people who died has been traumatised and interviewing year after year just retraumatises them again. I don't need to hear about relatives being sent part of the face of their dead relative 7 yrs after the event when it was identified via DNA.

I'm going to avoid watching these programmes.

These programs do tend to pop up at this time of year especially if it's a milestone year like 10; 20 or this year 25, there was another on last night which I was going to skip but ended up watching regardless

I remember back when it happened saying that this would probably be like when Kennedy was shot in that everyone would remember where they were when they 1st heard the news.
I was at work in an office with a couple of other people and someone from another office came in and told us what was going on, info was a bit confused and sketchy and we didn't know if this aircraft was a light aircraft that had somehow had an accident or what, and then the 2nd plane hit

I’m not sure this pissed me off …….. more like I couldn’t see the logic.

I’ll explain.
There is a competition on telly. One of these phone in things.
The prize is £168K

Members of the public were asked a question.
If one of them won the prize. Woulf they rather have it in a lump sum one off payment.
OR……… have it paid to them monthly…… £14K each month.

I was amazed how many folk said being paid monthly would be best 🤷🏼

Your thoughts !

But often with these things the lump sum is less than the headline amount and thus people take the monthly amount and the monthly amount sometimes goes for decades.

Apart from the OP said the prize was £168K or £14K a month x 12 = £168K  :unknown:

How is a lump sum prize amount less than the advertised prize amount, do you have examples  :unknown:
If it's not detailed in the information (eg £168K paid as £14K monthly for 12 months or a lump sum of £150K) then i'm not sure they could do that  :unknown:

The Powerball payout today is an estimated $332 Million jackpot, paid either as a lump sum of roughly $183 Million before taxes or as 30 graduated annual payments totaling the full advertised amount. These figures update with every drawing.

How Powerball Payouts Work

Powerball is one of the two largest multi-state lottery games in the United States, alongside Mega Millions. Drawings are held three times per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 PM Eastern Time), and the game is played in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

There are 9 prize tiers in Powerball, ranging from a $4 minimum prize (matching only the Powerball number) up to the multi-hundred-million-dollar jackpot. All non-jackpot prizes are fixed cash amounts paid in a single payment. Only the jackpot offers a choice between two payout options:

Lump sum (cash option): A single, immediate payment equal to approximately 50–60% of the advertised jackpot. This is the actual cash the lottery has on hand.

Annuity: The full advertised jackpot paid out as 30 graduated annual payments over 29 years. Each payment is 5% larger than the previous one, designed to keep pace with inflation.

Thanks for that, OK so it is advertised / known about that one big payout is less than the advertised amount which does seem to make it different to the UK prize mentioned
With the annual payments building by 5% and getting the full amount that may well be the better option but you'd have to crunch the numbers and then work off of estimates of the returns you thought you would get investing the lump sum in year 1

The other big difference here is that UK lotteries appear to take tax on the ticket purchase rather than the prize, we generally talk about UK tax being a rip off and the US as a shining exaple of how it should be but it appears they get hit with 37% federal tax and then there are also state taxes to follow  :scare:

Coming out of a hospital today (Just Visiting) and the road out joins a main road at a mini roundabout T junction where I wanted to turn right
There was a steady stream of traffic coming from the right and a broken stream from the left
Now  the steady stream was too great for the exit road now wouldnt you have thought, that given this was the exit from the main hospital and the entrance to A&E for Ambulances, anyone who isnt a total moron wouldnt block the roundabout ?

No, it pisses me off that two police officers would ever behave like that to a 92 yr man with dementia in a wheelchair who posed no threat to anyone. What were they thinking? It seems to be "I'm a police officer and you will obey" and if you're incapable of doing so then they zap you

Chips can quite often be repaired if they aren't too bad. Windscreens don't shatter now, they just crack.

Yeah most insurance policies also cover the windscreen and I always make sure it's included on a policy before I buy, i've had a chip repaired which cost me £10 at the time probably £20 or £30 now but have also had to have 2 screens replaced which cost me £50-£100 each at the time.

Was glad of the windscreen insurance though as one of the screens was on a limited edition car and back 18 years ago I was told the replacement screen would have cost me £1600  :scare:

I have mentioned this before but an instance the other day proved my point that women drivers are the least courteous drivers on the road. Driving down a side street there were a number if cars parked either side of the road making it impossible for two cars to pass each other so I pull into a gap in the line of parked cars and let four cars pass, three driven by men, one car driven by a woman. All the male drivers acknowledged me by a little wave of their hand or a flash of their headlight except the female driver who just drove past completely oblivious to my actions, no acknowledgement whatsoever
 I was always bought up with the saying " good manners cost nothing"

Sorry if this has been mentioned before in this thread, but saw this yesterday and blood boiled.

Ryanair story, but not a Ryanair rant.

Plane back from Portugal, managed to get on fairly quickly and get seated in row 4 near the front. Watched multiple (always women), put their suitcases in the overhead lockers in the first like 6 rows, then wander to the back of the plane, and their booked seats. This creates a problem for the customers who have booked say row 3 and all overhead storage is now full, so they are forced to wander down the plane and put suitcases further back. Once landed, and everyone standing, they again have to fight backwards to get suitcases. All due to the selfish fuckwits earlier.

That’s just typical selfish behaviour…I’m alright Jack.

Ideally the cabin crew should be watching that and make them take them to nearer where they are sitting .

Also saw 2 geniuses ,again women, sitting on a wall chuffing away right next to a petrol station….i mean FFS

Lost my wallet. A very unlike-me thing to do and never lost a wallet, keys or phone before. I think it may have fallen out of my pocket and I didn't notice, retraced my steps but no luck. It's possible I was pickpocketed but my hunch is I just dropped it. It has my driving licence with my address so it's possible that a good Samaritan returns it to me but I think that's very unlikely and I'm considering it lost.

Froze my debit card then reported it lost, doesn't look like anyone tried to use the card. Phoned the bank and a new card is on the way and Google Pay automatically updates to the new details before the physical card arrives which means I can buy things over the weekend which is amazing, easy to moan when banks do things wrong but props to them on this.

I don't think the wallet had any money in it, if it did it had £20 at most. Had my driver's licence which I'll have to replace and a few library cards. Was worried about whether someone having my driving licence is dodgy, but probably low risk and thinking about that is pointless. The wallet itself was nothing expensive, bought it at TK Maxx about 15 years ago and was quite attached to it (not attached enough it would seem) but will just get a new one.

I'm a bit pissed off about it, but not as much as I thought I would be. I am due to have a bit of dental work next week and I was not sure if it was going to be covered by NHS but my dentist confirmed it would be NHS which has literally saved me about £800 to £900 so on balance I think I should be in a good mood this week overall.

Lost my wallet.

Never lost a wallet.

I found a wad of cash £350 in Faces night club. In 1983 that was a lot of money.

I had a phone nicked out of my pocket in a West End night club around 2010. I remember a girl touching my arse, and asking what she had in mind?

Came out of the club, phone was gone.

I lost a gold Cartier watch on Queen Victoria Street. I knew exactly where I lost it as I checked the time before going in to Mitsubishi Bank. Once inside the bank, I noticed it was gone. Came outside it was gone.

I reported it to City of London police. Someone reported it found and I got it back. I went to pick it up from the guy who found it and gave him £50 in Dixons vouchers.
