Has anyone signed up for this? I see it as another gimmick, I have sky q and it does everything I need. I am not bothered about having a dish on my house as it's on the back, and although broadband is pretty reliable I am always glad when it does go down I can still watch TV. I also guess you need  high spec of internet connection for it to work.  Wondered if I am missing the point entirely

The concept of having hardware like a box or a "special" TV to deliver video content is hard to fathom in 2022. I was baffled and bemused when Sky introduced Glass.... I literally cannot understand who would buy it. That said, I'm equally bemused that people still have Sky boxes but I suppose a lot of that can be put down to just habit and inertia.

No chance it's streaming and streaming simply doesn't work.

I stream on my Samsung smart TV, has iplayer, prime Netflix etc... Don't see any point in getting a substandard TV (which I assume it is conspired to the big manufacturers)

Looking at the link Goldfinch has just posted I notice you can't record anything with it. I will stick to my Sky box thanks

Streaming works just fine on my Sky Q box, are you saying streaming doesn’t work on Sky Glass?

I’m tempted by Sky Glass but the TV’s seem  poor quality in comparison to what I already have.

Sky glass is a cheap tv with sky streaming built in. The tv quality isn’t great. I guess there hasn’t been much uptake which is why Sky has them on “sale” at the minute.

I have no issues having a sky q box on each tv. Rather than sky glass, they would be better off working on integrating the sky go app into new smart tv’s

The lack of recording on Sky Glass means it's a no from me. I'm quite happy with my Sky Q box, and a mini  box on the second TV. Don't understand  the negativity around boxes.

But my Smart TV has the NOW app - isn't that the same thing?

This is why I don't understand glass (or the wildly expensive Q)..... My very high quality TV has all the streaming apps built in and a very good slick interface that even Mrs GB can operate. One remote control (the TV one of course) does all, including voice control. Can also control via our smart speaker, y'know, can walk in the room and say "hey Google, play Stranger Things" and on comes the telly, flicks to Netflix and it resumes where I left it. This control via smart speaker doesn't work on the NOW app though - presume Sky block the functionality?

I currently have no NOW subscriptions. Until recently I was paying £5 for entertainment £5 for movies and £20 for Sport. I'll probably resume Sport in August and the others in Autumn. This seems far far more economical than forking out for Sky hardware AND £50+ stuck in a contract? I'm not arsed about pausing or rewinding live TV or paying extra for UHD. HD pic is fine on our telly - I watch 4K on Disney and Amazon for free. Yeah, it's a better pic but it ain't £5 a month that Now wants better!

sky glass will go the same way as TV's with built in Amazon fire, obsolete in a few years.  The Chipsets and ram will be insufficient for whatever is round the corner.

Some type of PVR to catch-up on what was missed & smart TV or box is good enough for most.

My TV is over 15 years old.  Not been tempted to get a Samsung smart TV (all my friends have) as the Amazon Fire TV box worked so well.
Now I've got the Chromecast with Google TV.  Best device I've bought in a while. Quick and delivers the streaming content.

What happens when you come to the end of your contract and you make the usual phone call to Sky threatening to leave as Virgin are offering you a better deal. Usually Sky reduce their prices to keep you with them. But now that you own a Sky Glass they know you are less likely to leave so maybe no good reduction. Also if you do want to leave, what do you do with the Sky Glass? Is it compatible with other providers?

Far too complicated for me.
How do folk find the time to watch so much telly.

I’ll stick to my Nokia mobile. My noisy modem thingy and the black and white portable thanks very much.

Somebody told me you can even take photos with these new mobile phones.
Witchcraft I tell you  :D

Ridiculous tbh, who did they expect to buy it if you can't even record shows??  No point upgrading from sky q

Offline j_181

Also if you do want to leave, what do you do with the Sky Glass?

Expensive coffee table.

So Sky Glass is streaming TV.  So if your internet goes down then no TV at all, nothing?   At least with Sky Q you still have your satellite dish to continue watching TV.

Sky Glass only has a 60 hertz refresh rate which seems rather low considering its 2022

Should be noted that the PQ on these sets is fucking garbage.

Offline Nic Fit

They are just Philips TV at the end of the day.
If you were just moving into a flat or apartment and needed something I see the purpose, but in the meantime I'll be sticking to Sky Q

Not an upgrade. It’s for people who don’t want boxes/wires and/or a dish. It’s not aimed at SkyQ owners

Offline berksboy

Yep i think its aimed at people who dont what a dish or cant get a good signal.I think it would have been better to just offer a streamimg service with out it being fixed to buying a TV.I think that a fire stick is a better bet.

Why do you want to record a show? This aspect puzzles me...

The whole Sky TV entertainment and movie model utterly baffles me. Who on earth is sitting down every Thursday at 9pm to watch (or record) Midwich Cuckoo's???? Surely you just stream the show/series when it suits? Basically, I have no idea why Sky are still pursuing a timed broadcast TV schedule for their non-Sport output, it's bizarre.

I'm not daft and I can see some advantages to having a record function. However, I don't consider the cost of this functionality to be worth the at least £10 per month (but more like £20 for me given I never pay full whack for NowTV).

Tbh I only use it to record sports games like NBA playoffs or la Liga.  I do see your point, with the streaming model the need for recording has dropped

Why?...
