Those of us who favour a return to old-style two-party politics can breathe a small sigh of relief that Labour comprehensively beat Reform UK in the Manchester mayoral election – with 49,326 “first stage” votes to Reform’s 9,845 – while at the same time feeling somewhat disturbed that the Restore Britain candidate received 4,811 votes, while the Conservative candidate got just 2,439.
