Again, this 100%

As I recall, a very valued and trusted member of UKP ended up being banned as he went full on foil hat mode about vaccines and the new world order :dash:

Not quite sure what the two of them are arguing about but RT has just disappeared from the few hundred channels the tv picks up though not from computer newsfeed. No great loss.

I hear the Beeb is still broadcasting in Russia. They use it to demonstrate how the West “fabricated lies”. Maybe tin foil hats are being replaced with the more fashionable White Helmet style.

Banned? Who was?

I only remember WW throwing his toys out the pram and logging out.

Did someone else get banned?

I'm not reading through 154 pages to check.

Just had a glance at RT list of headlines in the news feed — all pretty innocuous — just omitting stories of horrific devastation, deliberate targeting of civilians, troops being lied to etc etc.

Oh right... the "banned" log. Only goes back to March last year. People I didn't even notice were here. No chance for crocodile tears over fond shit-stirrers hitting the dust where we could say, ahh what a pity lol (with riotous archives to mark their graves).

Of course, some longtime controversial ones mostly didn't get banned, just fucked off. A bit more stylish than being a cunt.

I watch the Channel 4 News at 7pm pretty much every day. It focuses more on international events and I feel it often gives an insight into world news which is missed by the regular News bulletins on BBC and ITV. I was surprised to see an earlier poster describe it as a current affairs programme, as opposed to a news programme. I supposed it does provide more in-depth analysis within it's reports, but I attribute that to having an hour long programme, which doesn't have to devote half it's coverage to local news.

I was a little bit surprised by the Weather Forecast following the C4 News Today. It opened with the statement:

"There's going to to be an East-West divide in the weather across the UK tomorrow. Towards the East it's going to be cloudy and damp with outbreaks of rain. Whereas further West there'll be some sunshine and just a few showers here and there."

External Link/Members Only

Maybe it's over sensitive listening, following an hour of reports about the war in Ukraine, but using the term "East-West divide" seems a bit tone deaf. Hard to believe it was completely unintentional in a simple 2 min piece of copy. If it was intentional it's a bit of an unnecessary, infantile reference. Little slip ups like this can give credence to tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists that say the media tries to brain wash the populace with repetitive and subliminal messaging.

Some of you may regard this as snowflake triggering. And watching the link again it seems pretty innocent. But only half listening to it live on TV earlier I thought "Did that weather man just say something about an East-West divide across the UK? What was that about?"

Russia's Ministry of Truth fights back against fake news.  :D

''The BBC is temporarily suspending the work of all its journalists and staff in Russia after Russian authorities passed new legislation making the spread of “fake” information an offence punishable with fines or jail terms.

On Friday, Russia’s parliament passed a law imposing a jail term of up to 15 years for spreading intentionally “fake” news about the military. They also imposed fines for public calls for sanctions against Russia.''

It's quite a brilliant tactic, isn't it? Russia is going to great lengths to create a fictitious narrative and at the same righteously 'explaining' how all foreign news is faked, photoshopped, stage-managed. You couldn't make it up: but they obviously do, and have prepared well. I doubt if that will be the last of the bollocks they come up with. (They've taken some of these lessons from Syria and expanded on them.)

One news channel (CNN I think) interviewed people on the street in Moscow. Some younger people had researched it and saw what was really happening but to others, the Russian mainstream "Good Morning" show is the same format as ours, homely and a priori "true" -- and then those people have to get to work, get on with their lives and don't have time to question it. Others said they did not know what to make of it but "like everybody else" they were afraid. Arrests for "wrong news" or even protests just now apparently involve a criminal record, which can also affect a person's chances of a job for the rest of their lives.

There's an iPhone app called Is It Nice Out. Instead of long-winded speels about wind direction, 'precipitation' and other blahblah, they just tell you if it's "nice".

Unfortunately where I live most of their predictions are "Not Nice" or "Very Unpleasant".
I translate that as "wear a fucking coat if going out and check Skyscanner for cheap flights to the Canaries".  :angelgirl:

RT News still online. With main developments covered, most of the Western press is focussing on human stories -- gut-wrenching stuff -- but getting harder to identify relevant factual stuff. Had a glance at RT which gave a link to International Red Cross and their statements about humanitarian corridors not happening yet. Not quite sure how this doesn't feature prominently in the Western Media? There's also a report on China's position, which again is not particularly favourable to Russia.

After people get upset, there is a tendency to anger and a rush to blame loudly. Quite understandable, but not that helpful for analysis apart from being a phenomenon. We kind of need both, and I'm not impressed that, scouring half a dozen news channels, I had to get information -- actual verifiable facts -- from RT, biassed as it is towards Russia.

The problem with the evacuation routes is the Russians agreed them, but this morning there were numerous reports saying they were being bombed anyway. More recent reports are quiet on the issue. Possibly because it seems the Russians are sending hit teams after western journalists

It is hardly surprising that Russia's neighbours all want to join NATO, when Russia treats them like it has Ukraine, Georgia, etc.  Even neutral Finland is scared.

No expert on the subject, but as far as I know joining NATO is for protection and they are not bombing or invading anywhere and have no plans to invade Russia because their countries bordering are signing up.  :unknown:

no it isn't

go learn history yourself

Crimea was part of many empires,Greek Roman Mongol before coming  a vassal start of the Ottoman empire for settled and peaceful era of over 300 years. In 1774 Crimea was granted independence and then conquered and acquired by the Russians in 1783 - they acquired it by force

You're quite right. Coverage has changed in the last few days, from the political and factual to the personal.

Obviously this war is disastrous on so many fronts, but we're seeing, hearing and reading little about the real reasons for it, and virtually nothing about what sort of place Ukraine has become in recent times.

As with other major political events of the last few years, I feel we're being metaphorically beaten over the head with a blunt instrument so that we end up thinking the 'correct' thing.

And as some berk once said, real news is something that nobody wants you to know.

Historically Ukraine is not part of Russia. It was part of the Russian Empire for a relatively short period of it's history until the Russian revolution in 1917.

Sorry chrishornx - I didn't realise that you had already corrected him.
