Author Topic: UKPunting - Forum Review ?!  (Read 2703 times)

Offline Faraday

..well, I've been a member now for coming on 2 months.  I'm still actively punting (and writing reviews!) so thought I'd take the time to review the review site kinda thing, as a new member.  Thought it would be interesting to share my views if nothing else.  Feel free to comment, question, flame or otherwise engage over any aspect of this review.  I won't promise a reply - but likely will engage with any well thought out and articulate responses.

OK - let's set the tone for the review first - if you're a dickhead, you probably won't like this review.  It's aimed at those who came to use the site as intended - to research Service Providers and provide feedback on encounters with Service Providers.  If you're like me, you may engage in the odd conversation here and there, but aren't really here to socialise and make new friends.  This review really is just me feeding back to the community on my experience with the forum to date.  It's not intended to be anything else.

Content

5/5 here - and major kudos to every member contributing a review.  I know some people get "shot down" for their reviews not containing all the information people want - but anyone making an attempt at a review for me is trying to do the right thing.  Everyone has their own style and the guide on writing reviews does help - I created my own format which works for me to cover all the essentials as I saw them.  Feel free to steal it if you're reading this (just check out my reviews - they all use the same format) or just head over to the formal guide here: External Link/Members Only. I've also found those members who write reviews and then engage in the commentary afterwards provide the better reviews overall as the interactive element really can help when undecided over an SP who has been reviewed.

Overall, I can honestly say the content on this forum has saved me from throwing a fair few £££'s down the drain - I've done the odd TOFTT which I like to think that money has gone towards, but have also arranged bookings with SPs based purely on the number of positive reviews an SP has on here or the specifics contained in a review.  The site has been invaluable - and from the feedback and comments on some of my reviews, I'd like to think I'd helped the odd person out here and there with some insight to make their own decisions on some of the SPs I've seen.

Community

Right - obvious out of the way.  Rule breakers - as far as I'm concerned, you break the forum rules - you get what you deserve.  I read the rules in full before I made my first post (which was my first review) and often go back for a refresher here and there.  Some people I've noticed sail far to close to the wind with their comments and "bending" the rules.  Thankfully - looks like there's an attentive and active moderator team here.  Kudos to all of you lot - you keep this site on track and able to provide a place to share opinions, thoughts and best of all warnings to others for service providers who've not delivered on their promises, without it descending into chaos.

On this forum I've noticed two main categories of people (there's a few other odd balls for sure - but I love you lot, you make me chuckle - you don't quite fit this mold, but I'm sure you know who you are!).  The givers and the takers.

Anyone visiting an SP and not leaving a review, IMHO - shouldn't be here.  I just don't get why you would purchase a subscription if you didn't intend to contribute.  I just can't fathom it.  Similarly those who promise to review and it never materialises either to justify their existence on a thread on a loosely related topic, or make themselves seem like "Mr Big" with no follow through - just simply, bugger off.  My eyes don't want to read your drivel.  If you had a bad time with an SP, or were treated badly - write a f'in review.   Tell us who it was.  I for sure don't want to visit someone who's going to treat me like a piece of $hit, so just write a review instead of making offhand comments elsewhere about the latest SP who blew you off (not literally) with some lame excuse.  Don't promise you'll write a review, or a review is coming - just write the darn review already.  The keyboard strokes you've wasted telling us you're going to write a review, could have been used to start writing the damn thing.

I also think some people's post > review ratio is WAAAAAAAAY off.  If you have left 0, 1 or 2 reviews and have posted hundreds of comments, seriously - WTF are you doing with your life by being on here so much ?  If you punt, write a review.  If you don't punt - why are you here?  Wank bank material?   Go Google "Porn" instead - pretty sure it'll be better than berating some poor chap who's got a bit of EAS for being a "sucker".   Chill out.   Offering to "go bang the bitch, see how you feel then" - really isn't helping, or is healthy for anyone.  There's good advice and bad advice and more too often I come across the odd comment from someone who in my opinion has mental health issues; spewing out the most ludicrous crap disguised as "trying to help".  You're not fooling anyone with your diatribe.  I'm not going to name, shame or call anyone out - but those of sound mind and body on here I'm pretty sure will know what I mean.   If you haven't got something positive to contribute or a genuine question, shut the fuck up.

That said - there are a lot of folks on here who do use the site the same as I do - and I believe is the intention - to review, and read reviews about SP's - with a little bit of gentle banter on some of the other forums/threads (I've not been able to contribute yet as I've never had a "fun" one pop up, but the AW silly authentication code thread has brought the odd chuckle: https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=138033.0).  In anycase, a big thanks from me to you to the contributors.  Without you lot telling us all who's good, who's bad and who's "maybe ok for a P&D", punting wouldn't be half as fun.

It would be great to see more interaction from SPs - reviewing the review kind of stuff, but based on the harshness of some in the reviews, I can kinda see the point some have made in the past as this not being a site for them - and they're right.  Though in all honesty, I'd rather the good SPs were out providing stellar services to us discerning gentleman, rather than being on here arguing the toss about their OWO being deep enough or not, yadda yadda, etc. etc.

Summary

Top site, great mods - majority of the members do exactly what it says on the tin.  There's a few dickheads from what I can see - who seemingly enjoy being infantile and/or hostile to other members, but they seem to soon get mopped up by the mods.   I definitely feel like the site has saved me from making some bad decisions - you just can't believe all the AW profiles out there.  Those of you who TOFTT - you get the biggest salute of them all from me.  I try and pitch in where time and money allows - but it's you brave soldiers who "risk it for a biscuit" who are the true punters out there in my eyes.

Thanks for all the reviews folks, and keep them coming !

Reading that it's obvious you don't fully understand the site and it's never a good idea to try and dictate how people use it.

Post to review ratio means absolutely nothing, you aren't taking into account members who have regulars who only see the same one or two escorts, they can't review them over and over. Are you really saying they shouldn't be members.   :unknown:

There are also those who can't punt for various reasons but make valuable contributions in other ways.

It isn't as clear cut as you might think.

I did caveat it, by saying there are exceptions to the rule.  If this site isn't for reading and reviewing Service Providers, then you're quite right.  I don't understand what this site is for.

I would really appreciate you explaining it, thanks.

The header states what the site is for "UKPunting »Discussions & Reviews so it is for reviewing and discussing escorts, it's the way the site is run you don't understand not the ethos.

I could go on but suffice to say a new member trying to dictate how others use the site never goes down well.

As an example of what I mean, take Goldfinch he has 10,317 posts but only 22 reviews but the help he gives the forum is invaluable, among other things he finds and adds links to posts where the poster hasn't.

Point taken - this in part is the reason I wanted to share my experience to date as a new member.  Just wanting to better understand this place.

Quote from: daviemac

Yep - this is why I've not posted follow up reviews for SP's I've revisited - I took to hijacking an original review to post relevant updates (ie. rate increases etc).  The way I understand it and intend to use the site, is to only post up another review if the rating for the SP changes for any reason - again, as I've done already for one SP in particular.

Yep - fully get that.  When I was referring to post>review ratio, I was more inferring the kind of behaviour in this thread here: https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=320607.msg3343096#msg3343096  I believe you yourself commented the OP there had made 16 posts of the 34 - it's these kinds of threads which get my goat.  I do see the value in mods posting and responding (as you are here), and those people who post links on reviews where people have missed them and all the other reasons why post>review ratio's aren't an indication of contribution.  This wasn't aimed at anyone contributing positively.  I'm not saying the mods aren't on top of it - I was just indicating it's these kind of people confuse the bejesus out of me of why they're even here.

Quote from: daviemac
As I've said many times if a topic doesn't interest you don't read it.

Yup - firm believer of that philosophy.  Unfortunately it's not until I've read some posts I realise it's as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike for me.  Those threads soon get ignored though.

Top tip - and one I'll be sure to use in future.

That said - your feedback here was only on a couple of items I mentioned here.  In its entirety, I feel it's a fair balanced feedback on my experience here to date - with a lot of positives.  I've taken onboard your comments, and will be sure to take them into consideration moving forwards.

Thanks for the response.

It's a bit late tonight but I'll go through the rest of your post in the morning and explain where you are wrong on the majority of the points you raise.

Having said that if I were you I would have accepted a moderator saying, (after picking out a couple of points) "I could go on but suffice to say a new member trying to dictate how others use the site never goes down well." and not pointed out not all the points were covered. Still takes all sorts I suppose.

It wasn't intended to be an "I'm right, you're wrong" kind of review.  This was just an opinion piece.

Honest feedback from my perspective.  I completely get others will disagree - as is their right to do so.

As a moderator, if you want me to "cease and desist" from any kind of activity - I'm more than willing to do so.  Including "a new member trying to dictate how others use the site" - although I don't consider that was what I was doing, more attempting to get across what I didn't like and trying to explain my thought process behind it.  If people want to carry on doing it - that's their call.  I'm under no illusion I have about as much clout as a sneeze on a windmill.  I'll just use the "Report to moderator" button moving forwards.

Just found your whole post really condescending to be honest. You've just put all your grievances in one thread and tried passing a rant off as something more articulate and deeper it feels like to me.

I genuinely dont know the point of this thread and I'm only replying to let you know this - not going to get drawn into a war of words with you. Like Davie has already said things like post to review ratio can differ wildly by people and for good reason.

Edit - OK - let's set the tone for the review first - if you're a dickhead, you probably won't like this review

Looks like I'm a dick head. Boo fucking hoo

I'm actually surprised no-one is taking the positives from what I posted.  Overall - this was meant to be a mainly positive review of my time here on the site.  I actually wanted to say "Thankyou" to the contributors here for making punting an enjoyable experience for me and removing some of the risk.

I was trying to get across "for me - more of the reviews, less of the hostile/snarky posts" as a TLDR.

Seems my hostility to the hostiles, has been seen as hostility towards the contributors?  Far from it.  Apologies if it has come across this way.  That was never my intention.  This wasn't a rant - crikey.

Well, you live and learn.

I'll be sure to keep my commentary to the bare minimum moving forwards.  As I said, I'm not here to socialise or make new friends.

We are a community of like minded people who share similar interests, as a natural progression of that, and as in any community, members will form 'friendships' with other members who have similar interests and similar styles of punting. There will be members who just don't see eye to eye, it's a fact of life. There will always be discussion, some will only be loosely related to punting but that's what happens. If you want to isolate yourself from that community then that is your choice.

Wrong, there are certain things that are required to be included for a post to be a review, unhelpful reviews posted just to get their review count up are pointless. The mods will give help and guidance in situations like that.

Your post in the link is reply #31 so you have read the OP and 30 replies on a thread that 'gets your goat'   Like I said ignore what doesn't interest you.

As you pointed out I have posted on that thread so the issue is being dealt with by the mods, just leave them to get on with it and don't get involved.

I am not telling you to "cease and desist" you are free to post whatever you like, within the rules. I am explaining where you are wrong in what you have said and that your post shows you don't really understand the way the site works and that some of the things you have said will alienate you within our little community.

As of this moment we have 61,776 members, do you think they are all active, they all post reviews or even all log on regularly ? not a chance.

Best advice I can give you is use the site in the way that suits you, join in with discussions if you wish, no harm if you don't, but keep contributing and by doing so be happy that you are one of the 'hard core' that do post reviews and therefore keep the site the valuable resource it is.

Makes me think the OP has a head the size of a barrage balloon

Congratulations to him on posting 19 reviews in two months, that's a good effort. But making that effort doesn't give authority to dictate the posting behaviour of others. If he thinks that, he needs to think again

As a newbie I get what the OP is trying to say but the tone can rub people up the wrong way.

Personally I find UKP invaluable when looking for the next punt.  The ethos for all of us (with the exception of those medically that can't) is to write a review of our experience to help others make an informed decision.  Of course it doesn't guarantee the next person will experience the same thing, that's why it's a 'punt'.

As to the ins-out, all forums have good, evil, arguements and banter.  If I have nothing good to say, I just avoid those threads and the moderators will put a lid on it.

Indeed, the OP has done a sterling job with reviews in his short membership. Perhaps he has more money than me, as it’s lack of cash that prevents me punting very regularly indeed, and I’d happily review ‘em all

But f**k me, I hate being lectured to

Thanks for the review OP but you don't have enough clout to your name to be doing this LOL. Even long time established members would not do this, it just comes off a bit pompous and arrogant even though I can see that is not your intention. Please understand if this rubs people the wrong way.

I haven't reviewed every escort I've seen since joining UKP. Sometimes I have punts that I enjoy because my needs for mental stimulation are much higher than my physical needs. Would I benefit other punters by issuing a positive review for an escort that I spent maybe as little as quarter of the booking engaging in sex with her compared to the other three quarters that was spent just enjoying the company of a naked woman who could hold a decent conversation? I think that would not benefit myself, the escort and the majority of the punters on this forum. Putting serious restrictions on membership based on reviews would be a terrible idea, it would probably lead to even more reviews after 6 months of the same escort with nothing new to add. I think that membership of the forum is better served by the admin team looking at the overall contributions by a the member rather than a specific review quota target being hit.

To me it seems when he said that about the reviews it’s as if he’s the owner and he’s had to come out with it or we are doing him a massive favour by reviewing wg’s
Also if he was a footballer I’d call him bellendio or knobinho oh and also hope he comes back on for the pelters he’s going to get from everyone

Job done then. You seem to have achieved all your objectives.  :hi:

OP I note you said positive things.  You said the content was 5/5.  That the forum had saved you ££.  And the puntingwiki 'how to write a review' guide was helpful.   And more.  But I confess I fell asleep part way through so not sure if you said other positive things later on.  If you did, well done for that as well.

My view is UKP is here for punters to contribute on, reviews are its lifeblood but you can contribute in other ways like being a forum helper. My ratio of posts to reviews isn't good but I don't care, I have put a lot of time over a decade into UKP in calling a lot of dodgy cunts out.

My advice to punters is always please do a review as that's your review of the WG, don't just see the WG has loads of other reviews and think its not worth reviewing her, it always is in my book. Its no help to me to see or do a negative review then later in the thread see a punter post I had the same or similar neg experience with the same WG, but they couldn't be bothered to review her on here and could of done so.   And I don't buy this I haven't got time bollocks some punters post as a reason they don't review, a review can be done in 10 mins, it doesn't have to be long just give the facts and your opinion of the WG.

UKP has many many times saved me money by avoiding bad WGs and especially with profile swap intel, and I have punted with many many good WGs after reading positive reviews on them. UKP is more needed now than ever as I see it, loads of bad WGs on A/W in my area, on average prices have risen some by a lot in my area including from new WGs with no track record on here. Its also modded very well and the scum get banned. I look at the credibility in my eyes of a punter on here, if you don't contribute you have none or little credibility to me. Fortunately in my area, London there are many solid punters who post and review which I certainly appreciate.

Don't you suspect he (Faraday) has another profile ?
Even arsonists return to see the results of their handiwork.

I was thinking the same thing that he is a returner but having two running profiles I don't know. The way he has expressed how he sees the forum does not indicate he is a new member at all. Could be he was a long term lurker then signed up, an ex member returning and acting as a new one; or really is quick on the take up on navigating the forum. Only OP knows I guess.

In my opinion he's full of shit. I wouldn't be surprised if his whole membership was based on his post. Not dissimilar to bontempo paloma lover or whatever his name was when he returned just to have his say.
Our friend here is way too familiar,  his reviews quite extensive. He would know what reaction his post would have and after constructing the above during his second bottle of lambrini, he hasn't returned to face the music.
Of course I could be wrong,  I have no issue apologising either.

And what the fk is that avatar? Is it some masionic code for swimming in money? 🤣
