Author Topic: Another campaign to ban punting?  (Read 5137 times)

Just wondered if anyone heard the interview on Radio 4's Today programme and attempts by a cross-party committee to follow N Ireland and make buying sex illegal? It looked almost certain to happen about 4 or so years ago but died away. Any chance this could find a sympathetic audience with our MPs who seem to have fully bought into the Covid-driven puritan agenda of banning anything that's enjoyable?

I did hear something about this in a news report on the radio earlier this morning.  Hopefully nothing actually comes of it in regards to Adultwork being outlawed.

More female politicians wanting to deprive men of their fun, just because they want them to be as miserable as they are. They are at the same thing north of the border, Ruth Maguire MSP and Rhoda Grant MSP resent the fact that nobody would pay for them and they want their revenge on men because of this.  The vast majority of sex workers chose the work, and are not raped and sexually assaulted. The police should deal with any problems that a small minority might have.  However this fact will not stand in the way of these harpies wanting to destroy the perfectly legal choices that consenting adults can make.

They are not the first female politicians to express a desire to criminalise punters. Harriet Harman springs to mind.

Our ancestors did not allow women to have this sort of power. Perhaps this was the sort of thing that they were afraid of.

I fucking give up with these  :manhater: female MPs, the crimal gangs who traffic people dont care if its legal or not, as we know for example the war on drugs is massive success  :sarcastic: The only solution is futher decrimislation, so those in the industary have more protection.

I think a good first step would be allowing 2 or 3 sex workers to work from the same premises, closey followed by controlling our fucking borders!

Wont change anything anyway. They've been trying to do this for years. Northern Ireland went really quiet for a while but seems as healthy as ever now.

And I know of at least one country where its illegal yet there are more agencies than ever and no complaints from independants any more.

Its all humbug I tell you.  Punt on.....

Do these people never learn from history? In prohibition usa they tried to ban alcohol ... criminals stepped in to meet demand, murdered anyone who got in their way, and there was no control of product quality, some of which was poisonous.

They ban drugs, ... criminals stepped in etc ...

What do they think will happen if they ban prostitution

No, but there was a case in the news recently, he got his wife to film him in action; and of course there is the famous Lennie Bruce "Get your chicken to make your dinner" sketch to draw on.

It’s all very well blaming puritanical women (it’s not actually) but if we at UKP were as explicitly against trafficking as we are of bareback we might do us and them a favour, and help stop this in its tracks.

We have bareback threads - why not a trafficked women threads?  Anyone who is seeing Roms can be certain they have seen a trafficked girl at some point.

I had a grim experience years ago with a reluctant young woman, B&S, I’m pretty sure she wasn’t there for the fun or the Money. I couldn’t bring myself to fuck her, ended up having a wank on her tits and felt truly awful about it. Since then, I have only seen independent British women of a certain age. I’m not holding myself up as a paragon of virtue, I just can’t bear the thought of being an abuser of women.

All these Brazilians and Romanians. I’d say the majority have been coerced, at least, into being here, and we should be looking at our own actions as consumers in that market. And doing a lot more to prevent it.

If that psycho Patel gets her way it’s going to be messy.

I believe HP attempted a thread on trafficking last week. The general consensus was if you have concerns you should be informing the relevant authorities as opposed to posting it on forum.

I think we can do better. If we can name and shame barebackers, we can do something similar (hopefully a bit more compassionate) about trafficking.

How do you propose we do that.   :unknown: If an escort advertises or is known to bareback then you know she's advertising and or doing it. How many adverts have you seen where they state they've been trafficked, you don't.  If you think any escort has been trafficked then report it to the relevant authorities, don't speculate on here.

At least the BBC article had just a shadow picture of a woman (rather than a woman leaning into a car, standing on one leg).  But then the Guardian ... back to a woman and a car.

Offline fredfunkster

For example, the incident I referred to above - if there had been a thread to add to, it would have gathered intelligence and deterred a subsequent punter.

Go on AW, search for any town, my guess is half of the first 20 results will be pimped. (0 feedback, named by Borat) Of those, plenty will have been coerced. We all know this really - a glum looking Rom girl with OTT description, is pimped. So why aren’t we explicitly highlighting that which we implicitly refer to.

And don’t start me on VS.. Christ that’s dark.

It’s no more an allegation than a BB listing. Both are massive red flags, it’s just that BB can damage us, and we take more care over it, than we do something which harms an SP.

It’s not that difficult.

I'm not sure why you are having so much difficulty in grasping the difference between an escort who openly advertises bareback and one who you THINK may be trafficked.

if an escort has been trafficked and it is reported to the relevant authorities, as per the RULES of this site, then they will deal with it and remove her from the situation.

So, let me see if I understand this.. there is a legal market... and some of the suppliers to that market are illegal.. so rather than go after the illegal suppliers, the government want to shut the market down? Makes total sense to me - not! The market will be driven underground, all suppliers will become illegal, and plod will have way too much to do rounding up all the previously perfectly legal suppliers to focus on the trafficking - which will probably increase in an illegal market scenario. Yes.. I can see... politicians are worth their weight in gold... fools gold.

Looking at Australia, they decriminalised prostitution in the form of agency/independent outcalls, incalls and brothels. Street prostitution is still illegal (although from what I could gather when I was there, tolerated). The result is that the industry cleaned up its act.. I used to work for one of the state health and safety departments and they would send workplace inspectors to brothels to inspect they were meeting requirements, which included hygiene, environmental, security and employee/WG welfare. Apparently, there was a pecking order as to which inspectors got those gigs. They also focused more time on illegal establishments - not to prosecute - but to ensure the welfare of the SPs, as they are often under stress, drugged up, and.... trafficked (usually from Asia). In other words, they realised the market was there and wasn't going away, so they decided to make it safe for SP and punter alike and focused on finding the trafficked and otherwise illegally exploited. ALthough they wouldn't go after the SPs, they would go after the traffickers/Sergeis.

OK.. I think on the whole, SPs in Australia are more transactional during the punt than the UK (non-Roms.. never had one), but the experience is much less seedy. An example of one I used to go to, the Pink Palace is here: External Link/Members Only. It had a car park and discrete entrance and was all very classy.. with a lounge to sit and drink (nonalcpholic drinks) with the girls and get to see if they really floated your boat before committing. There are others, that are from converted warehouses in industrial areas (e.g. Club Hallam - look them up in Google Maps), to within office/shops in the CBD (e.g. External Link/Members Only. As far as I am aware, they are not allowed to be within residential areas, although a few were on the outskirts of them. The good thing about their location is that more often than not, even where there is no car park, they are relatively discrete as not many people are around...

This is an example where there has been some success in addressing the trafficking issues - but as said... there will always be traffiking where money can be made and no doubt there is trafficking into Australia today.

On having a trafficking thread, the difference to a BB thread is that with BB, either the SP specifies it in their ad (likes, description, or FAQ), or it is reported in a review ("she offered me BB").. etc. But with trafficking, unless you have some evidence, it is just a guess - It may be just the SP hates doing it, but has to for the money (whether that is to just live, pay off a debt, or drugs, etc), rather than actually being trafficked. So, you may unwittingly cut off the SP's income (or reduce it) when they really need it. Alternatively, as we tend to name the SPs in the review, if their Sergei happens to read it, she may well be punished for making it a little too obvious (even if it wasn't her that was making it obvious). Although, I would be surprised if this forum isn't checked by law enforcement occasionally, so maybe a suspected trafficked thread is not a bad idea?

<edit>
Forgot to mention, it may be that 80% of Roms are trafficked, but what percentage of the SP population is made up of Roms? It is still an issue that has to be addressed - but if, say 10% of SPs are Roms, then as a percentage of the market, it is not that big a deal to shut it down... it would be far better (and money better spent) to focus plod on sorting out the Rom issue.

"Banning" punting will only drive it further underground. It would negatively affect WGs more than the men who punt. Sex will always be for sale. Now whether if it is in a safe, transparent working environment for both parties should be the issue. Those MPs live in a bubble, like the ones who could not understand why county lines happen and were in complete shock of such a reality until it came upon their own doorstep but I digress  :dash:.

On top of which, if we have threads naming who we think are trafficked WGs the reality is that most will simply disappear only to reappear somewhere else with a different ID.

Ah, this old chestnut. All WGs are degraded, poor victims under the dominion of an evil Pimp Warlord, and all punters are seedy, horrible little trolls with no moral compass. I don't think paying for sex will ever be made illegal, because things will just be made ten times worse as a result, and all WGs probably will end up being degraded, poor victims under the dominion of an evil Pimp Warlord. We all know the vast majority do not fall into that category, because we've experience in this world. It just comes down to good old fashioned ignorance. Someone needs to burst their bubbles and educate them. I'm sure there are plenty in Westminister who know how this all works, although I'm sure they'd never admit it.  :D

HP, reply #6 is a link to an article and being a political campaign, discussion has, quite rightly, been avoided, you posted the full contents of that article. Since reply#6 was posted it has been made very clear, twice, that any suspected trafficking should be reported to the relevant authorities as per the rules of this site and it should not be a subject for speculation. Unless an escort specifically asks for help to escape a situation no one can know for sure if they are indeed trafficked.

Quite why you felt the need to start a new thread and post the entire contents of something already mentioned and dealt with in an existing thread is beyond me.

HP, the Guardian reported a political campaign and, as all papers do, quoted what they thought would get the most attention.

I may be wrong, but isn't it the public's "responsibility" to report something suspicious and the authority's (in this case, police) to investigate and determine if there is or not evidence to support? Of course, your suspicion should be reasonable and not vexatious.. It would be reasonable for the police to ask why you think they may be trafficked and determine from that whether or not it is realistic, but I don't think they require actual evidence - that is their job...

<edit>that doesn't mean you should report suspicions on the flimsiest of hunches and burden both the police and the establishements, but I hope that was inferred from above.

Unfortunately, as evidenced in several studies about how the public reacts to witnessing 'dodgy' goings on, people have a habit of looking the other way, feeling bad about it, and then moving on with their lives.

Add in the spice of engaging in what for many of us is an illicit encounter and it's even less likely that the police will be contacted. I'm not criticizing, simply being realistic. I think the links allowing us to report trafficking/slavery concerns are admirable and it's good to have it raised in a thread now and again.

Punting is in an odd position because it's not illegal but it's not covid secure. Massages can take more precautions. So lots of people breathing on each other in close proximity makes the activity a bit of a target right now. However the govt doesn't need the paperwork and effort to make it illegal at the moment so I think it'll survive.

Offline Lister

It is interesting that whenever trafficking is mentioned, the press, the government and most of the general population immediately think of prostitution.

I suspect only a small minority of SP's are trafficked and we should all , quite rightly, oppose this and report any suspected cases. There are also a lot of other destinations for trafficked people - cockle pickers, domestic servants, and farm workers to name but a few. The solution is not to ban farm working, cockle picking or domestic cleaners - it is to stamp down on the traffickers and maintain the rights of the legal workers. it similarly makes no sense to ban prostitution just because there are a few low lifes who take advantage.

As mentioned above, the Australian model is much more sensible.

The key point that the harridans and possibly some posters here do not appreciate is that having paid sex with someone who is trafficked is already illegal under strict liability ie it does not matter if you didn't know she was trafficked.

And that, to answer a question raised above is why some genuine punters are reluctant to report their suspicions. Sure one can report anonymously but a lot of guys are no doubt paranoid about still being tracked down and prosecuted, and just can't be bothered to take the risk.

So instead of further criminalisation of the punter to tackle trafficking, it would, on balance, be better to remove the strict liability rule and put the emphasis on the CPS to prove they were aware, while encouraging people to report incidents.

And banning punting would make things worse for non-trafficked vulnerable women as well, for it would drive the industry underground and leave women a lot more at risk than they are now. You can't just get rid of 'world's oldest profession' - fact.

Agree with this... The question on us then is that if we visit someone and we suspect they are trafficked, should we walk or go through with the punt? If we walk, then we have not committed the strict liability offence and no probs reporting the suspicion.. If we take the punt, then we have, and also have provided the necessary incentive (money) for Segei and his traffickers... Agreed, sometimes there is no reasonable suspicion (in which case we may have committed a crime, but won't report it anyway), or the suspicion is only discerned part way through or after the punt.. Yes.. a better option is to remove the strict liability, but like almost everywhere where there is a strict liability, it's because the CPS/guvmint are too lazy and unwilling to put in the resources to ensure it was criminal behaviour and may was well try to deter people by saying "if you do it and get caught, you're nicked"

surely the moral thing to do would be to walk and report.
Banned reason: Can’t stop having a pop at punters, on a punting forum, warned to many times now, no more!!

I understood from discussion at the time the legislation was introduced that, ridiculous as it sounds, even if you made the booking, turned up and then walked you would still fall foul of the strict liability regime.

To my poorly trained eyes half the girls in say Crewe look like they have been trafficked. I`d probably be arrested for being a public nuisance.

Isn't the reality that PC Plod hasn't the resource to deal with such legislation even that already on the statute books?

It goes without saying that would clearly be the right thing to do.. I was presenting the options for the sake of discussion.. But also, as I mentioned, it may not be apparent until after the punt (for example something is said) that one's suspicion is alerted.

However, I won't go into the moral choice we make whenever we buy cheap manufactured goods from certain countries overseas, nor whenever we buy that trendy new device - many are made from what amounts to slavery and trafficking as well.. Even the important components in your favourite mobile phone.

If that is the case, that is clearly nuts and an over PC legislature kow-towing to someoverly puritanical wenches and white knights. Of course, if it isn't on the books, then I guess you could still be done for intention to commit the crime.

Law is for 'paying for sex' so if you've not paid, you've not paid for sex and if you've handed over the cash then ask for it back. And if you get threatened, then you can make up whatever story you want about coercion/not realising what sort of establishment it was.

Isn't the reality that PC Plod hasn't the resource to deal with such legislation even that already on the statute books?

Yes, the reality may well be that but while a law is in place and raids etc do happen, then people are paranoid and shit scared about being caught.
