Died 3 days ago. Yet virtually no mention in the news.

Probably didn’t have enough social media followers to make the news.

Sad state of the times we live in

I have to admit that I cant remember a Jimmy Winston, but know the other band members. I own one their albums, Nut Gone.

Not surprising his death wasn't big news - he only played on the first two singles before he got kicked out.  You'd have to be a big Small Faces / sixties music fan to even recognise the name.

Agreed. I thought I knew all the Small Faces and I'd never heard of him.

Sha La La La Lee was what I remember first ..... it looks like I missed the first two.

He started off as a guitar player and became the keyboardist/organist later.

Many bands have obscure original members. The most famous of course being Pete Best of the Beatles. Then there was Steve Brookes. Who knows which famous band he was an original member of before they began recording?

I knew Jimmy Winston was the original keyboard player in the Small faces.
But then I am something of a music expert!    :music:

(Unless it's girl bands, boy bands, dance, hip hop, female singers with one name or (c)rap!  :D )

It's quite unsurprising really, given that he was kicked out before they hit the big time.  No doubt he would get a write-up in Record Mirror back in the day but utterly forgotten now.

I had a look earlier and he's best remembered for this pysch-pop obscure record: External Link/Members Only

Kenney Jones the only surviving member now.  Ian McLagan's 2014 death was more recorded for his time backing up Rod than with the Small Faces:

I'm not doubting that, but I found out by accident viewing IMDb. Given the huge influence of the faces on bands like Blur, Oasis and The Jam you would have thought something would be written on BBC news at the least. Glen Matlock allegedly never recorded the original never mind the bollicks apart from being credited with one track, but I would expect him to have a press obituary.

So nobody knows which band Steve Brookes was an original member of?

I saw it on Twitter.

Glen Matlock played in the reunited Pistols and has a big media profile, he's often called on as a kind of spokesperson of punk for documentaries etc.  He hasn't been anything other than a musician all his adult life.

Jimmy Winston released two acclaimed but obscure solo singles after the SF then settled into a life of suburban domesticity for the next 50 years.
