Just out of interest, British Airways are pulling out of the Heathrow-Kiev route in October. I have booked my visit for September. Have never flown the likes of Ryanair and don't intend to, much too old for that!

I don't think it's the easiest to find, but my instructions are good. If you follow them, you'll get there.

For me this location seems pretty good, it's very central and easy to find, I stayed just 2 blocks away last time I was in Kiev. Too bad I saw this recommendation a bit too late...

But next Kiev visit should be pretty soon, so maybe I'll try this one then

It was 2k when I got the taxi driver to take me there. When I went alone, they charged me 1,600. Presumably the extra 400 went to the driver as a finder's fee.

In South America most outcalls would ask for taxi money and sometimes bar pick-ups too. I remember one overnighter who asked fro taxi money in the morning. I knew the city fairly well and had asked her where she lived the night before. I have just come back. I can confirm that the Tourist Hotel strip club is definitely still open!

Change a small amount at the airport and then change the rest in the city centre. Much better rates and dozens to pick from.

Rio is the best known. Take out was also on offer at the Red Lion - although only a couple of the girls and I remember thinking quite expensive. I visited 007 where it didn't seem to be on offer. There was another place on the same street as 007, about 100m away, can't remember the name (maybe also red something) that offered take out but last time I was there it looked to be closed. This is all over a year ago.

From what i noticed this summer was that taking cash out of ATM is expensive as hell in Ukraine. The rates are so bad that you won't find worse rates even in the worst rip-off exchange offices.

That goes for euros at least, which is my currency.

To give you a clue how bad it is, i can tell you that if i took 1000 krivnas out of ATM (approx. 35 eur), i lost like 7 euros compared to any exchange office rates.

I'll use ATM's in Ukraine only in emergency cases, always cash otherwise.

Don’t choose the exchange option when withdrawing cash - let your bank make the exchange otherwise you get royally shafted as you have. I withdrew £100 or £200 at a time, my bank charged me £1 for a foreign transaction plus the Visa rate which wasn’t far off the rate offered at the exchange booths. Found it safer paying an extra £1/£2 per £100 or £200 to withdraw than bringing loads of Euro notes over and having to hide them from the ladies every night.

The other thing is choosing the right cash machine. A lot of machines will add their own fee on - choose one of the Raiffeisen Bank ones for one of the lowest fees. UKRSIBBANK had some horrendous fees approaching £5 per £100 and seemed to rise depending on the amount withdrawn.

The Revolut card is a very good option when travelling abroad

, you get the Inter bank rate and there is no charge from them for overseas withdrawals.

The downside on the Free cost card is there is a maximum £200 cash per month free cash withdrawal, thereafter, there is a 2% fee. Although, there is the Cashback option when purchasing out of supermarkets etc to alleviate the fee.

The card works in tandem with a Smartphone and you get instant notification once a purchase has been made. You can also cancel the card immediately should the card be lost.

No, l do not work for Revolut or are on commission

On a seperate issue, do not use the EuroNet ATM's abroad as they are a Rip off and the withdrawals fee's are exhorbitant.
