“Hello, this is 56 Dean Street, you may have come into contact with a sexually transmitted infection called Gonorrhoea. Please contact us on 02033159555 for an appointment or your local GU clinic for testing and/or treatment. Untreated infections can lead to serious complications at a later date.“

Anyone else get something similar ?

Nope, visited the gum at Watford a couple of times, always had the all clear, maybe they share numbers, seems unlikely

I believe that if a patient is tested positive, the clinic offers a service where they will contact that patient's recent partners (punters) if the patient provides phone numbers. This gets the message to those who may have been infected by their patient without the patient having to give away their identity to recent partners (punters).

I think it is time for you to get tested  :(

Exactly this.  Get yourself tested.  If you don't trust it, try ringing the clinic and asking if they did send the message.

Yes a lady you seen has probably been infected and she gave your number to the clinic for them to contact you. Bad form IMO as what if you are married, you don't want your missus to see that type of text message!

Considering it's also one of the leading HIV clinics (I'm sure there's a good reason it's based in Dean St) then a possible dose of the clap doesn't seem so bad. Any ideas who the "patient" might be?

I wouldn’t say it was bad form, it’s the responsible thing to do. How else would he get to know about it? How many could he go on to infect?

Together with lots of other UKP members, I Googled 56 Dean Street.
Yes it's a GUM Clinic and the telephone number for appointments is given as  020 3315 6699.
It could be a prank but to be on the safe side I'd ring them.
Or you could follow them on Twitter or find them on Facebook.

Invasion of privacy, and against GDPR rules incidentally. Your contact number should only be used for the reason it was given, in this case to accept and confirm the booking. Unless you are asked at the time it can't be used for any other reason or (especially) passed to a third party.

I don’t think it’s a prank, as the message is from ‘Dean?st?2’ if it was a prank it would show a phone number I guess. Certainly seems a believable text.

I will get tested, this weekend, certainly have no symptoms.

Personally I think it was the right thing to do and am greatful it has happened.

I’ve contacted all the girls I have seen in the last six months through AW to make them aware.

Yes, a Liverpool Gum clinic explained this to me - even before they had given any tests. But the Gum had relocated because of cuts to a venue inside a previously exclusive Mother & Baby/ Well Womans Clinic - the place bristled with hostility.
Still, i think it does confirm the text reflects an official policy.

....but if i were the O/P, i would visit another GUM - not the Dean Street one. You can ask for the full tests, not just the quick version.

Offline Analist

First time I heard about Dean Street was from MissKDD when she required a clean sexual health test result prior to booking. I asked where I could get one quickly and she recommended Dean Street. They used to do walk-ins, then became so popular you had to book in advance. Anyway, they strike me as being reliable.

I would first call and confirm that they did send you the text, and ask for further details before deciding to visit your local clinic. Technically, they may be in breach of GDPR but if it were me I'd be glad they did get in touch. If it was a real call, you've been done a favour by the WG conscientiously providing a list of her clients contact numbers. You've been done a second favour by Dean Street contacting you without nitpicking about the legality.

If it was a civic minded SP with a conscience then good luck proving she is considered.

I won't respond to your personal insults.

The organisation have to have permission to store your personal details. Your phone number counts as personal details. They have to have proof that you consented for them to store it and what purpose they planned to use it. A prostitute giving your number to them and saying you shagged her does not give them permission to accept your phone number, nor should they.

By the way, are you just following me around to every post? Don't you have anything better to do?

EDIT: Seems like they are subject to GDPR...

Yes, the NHS are subject to the GDPR like everyone else, however...

The organisation have to have permission to store your personal details. Your phone number counts as personal details. They have to have proof that you consented for them to store it and what purpose they planned to use it.

Not quite.  They have to have a "legal basis" upon which to process the information.  Consent is one of those (and the most talked about) but there are 5 others, including:

(e) Public task: the processing is necessary for you to perform a task in the public interest or for your official functions, and the task or function has a clear basis in law.

(f) Legitimate interests: the processing is necessary for your legitimate interests or the legitimate interests of a third party unless there is a good reason to protect the individual’s personal data which overrides those legitimate interests. (This cannot apply if you are a public authority processing data to perform your official tasks.)

(See External Link/Members Only)

(e) is probably what they'd use to justify the processing here, so no consent required.

The OP may have been exposed to an STI, which he would have known nothing about if he has no symptoms. Thanks to common sense, he has been alerted and can now keep himself healthy, (and others around him), by getting checked out.

I’ve not read through them minutely but I think some people are getting in a tizz over something simple. Someone goes into a Gum clinic, agrees partners should be informed but doesn’t want to be personally involved. They ask someone at the clinic to do the contacting and provide a phone number. The nurse makes a phone call or sends a text. No info was stored. No data protection laws infringed.

I imagine a WG you have punted with has given the GUM your number as she has tested positive for something.

Though many on here rave about Dean Street the fact is a few years back they fucked up big time, they sent emails revealing other patients HIV status to the wrong people. This meant that the status of some who hadn't told family and friends themselves was now known to these people who got the email. IMO this is an unforgivable breach of confidentiality and ensures I wouldn't use Dean Street.

I never give the GUMs I go to my real details as I know a leak/hack/mistake could happen at any time. Anyway good luck, I hope its nothing to worry about.

...unforgivable breach of confidentiality and ensures I wouldn't use Dean Street.

I can understand feeling behind this intuition; but if we're concerned about standards, some of the best places to go to are those that have recently publicaly failed an inspection. I'd feel more confident ordering in a restaurant that had just reopened after a health inspection failure, over one which had yet to fail.

Offline Williams56

Leaving aside the GPDR debate, my very limited dealings with GUM clinics has led to them texting me but they've always been very discrete with their messages certainly nothing as explicit as the one that started this thread.

That prosecution was not for contacting people, it was for sending emails to multiple
contacts with the addresses visible to all - thus releasing their information

In this topic the clinic has been given a number in relation to past sexual contact of a prostitute / service provider and they have sent a message under the terms that the information was given

The OP needs to heed the advice and get checked out.
Everyone needs to take notice and add it to the reasons for having a punting phone
It also adds to the disadvantages of a disposable number in that if the phone/sim/second number app had been binned since then the message would have not got through and he would never know

I go on the individual case, I don't trust Dean Street so wouldn't use them. The same trust made a similar error in 2010 according to the BBC in addition so they didn't learn from that to my satisfaction.

I assume it’s legit

I’m abroad until tomorrow, so won’t be able to be tested until then. There really are no symptoms, either way it’s been a year since my last check so probably a good reminder to get myself done.

I’ve had pretty good response from the girls I’ve seen. One is keeping my booking I had already made with her, until I get the results. One clearly didn’t read the message properly, I think she thought I was trying to arrange a bareback session !!!. All the others said they had no problem seeing me again at sometime in the future and thought it responsible of me to inform them.
Only one of the girls hasn’t ‘read’ the message yet, so I texted her directly.

My wife knows about my punting ways so the text was no issue for me. I think the policy of Dean street is sensible, but it is a stark reminder to those without a punting phone, to heed the great advice of this forum and grab one.

Offline hornypnter

Yes a lady you seen has probably been infected and she gave your number to the clinic for them to contact you. Bad form IMO as what if you are married, you don't want your missus to see that type of text message!

Having worked in STI clinic, if a patient test positive for STI then patient is asked who they have been in contact and their contact number. This is to prevent further spread of infection in the community and also for treatment of infected people.

If I were you I wold get tested. That way you can also get a health check done. If you have (hopefully not) contracted infections early treatment is always better and some infections can be cured before causing further complications.
