She was one of the receptionists at SS who I'm guessing was the one working on the day of the raid, her case won't be anywhere near as severe as the owners.

I'm guessing the money laundering charges complicate things for them and they want to have a go at getting out of them. No doubt they've prepared for something like this happening and explored the routes they'd take with lawyers, loopholes etc, they're not dumb people.

Surely they're not going to try and claim they didn't know what was going on in the rooms!!!

We all know what went on in the rooms but there's only the WG and the punter can say categorically  what happen.

Just thinking it through this would fit in with the banning of photography in the room so there was no record of what went on.   
Also years ago they used to charge the full price at reception then just the extras to the  girl. It was changed to just a room fee of £20 plus the rest in the room.  I wonder if they are trying to claim that they were just renting a room out and were not responsible for ehat happens in the room???

They aren't that smart or they wouldn't of been running an illegal business that is VERY easy to raid, close and gather evidence to charge and take to court. Its been pure luck or bribing the police that they lasted this long. Even if they have hidden their assets if the Judge rules they did make a lot of money as POCA prove to their satisfaction they could be given a set time to come up with the assets/money or face additional time in prison. This happened with a gangster in London a while back, he had served his sentence but was told he had to hand over £750k, he plead poverty right up until the last minute and then he suddenly found the £750k.

As long one or more of the charges get a guilty conviction those found guilty could be financially ruined and that's not taking into account HMRC might launch an investigation whether there is a guilty verdict or not. That's the possible consequences of being a pimp breaking the law of course.

Suspect the receptionist pleaded guilty at the first opportunity as she's probably already been offered a deal to testify against the main defendants in return for at worst a suspended sentence.

The main defendants are going to try to tough it out in court on the brothel keeping charges because have been advised given the scale of the operation they will be doing time in the slammer even with an early guilty plea.

Then there is the much more serious money laundering charges. Potentially 14 years inside.
Without the brothel keeping conviction that case would fail?

Proceeds of crime would fail as well without the brothel conviction as there would be no "crime".

Just my 2 penneth...others no doubt have forgotten more legal knowledge than I will ever have!

Found this on Law Pages. Looks like this isn't the main trial and things aren't going to be concluded until January 2019, maybe someone who is clued up on how the court system works could enlighten us?

The only way to find out the charges is to ring the court and ask.  You do not have to give any personal information to make a request and they will tell you the charges over the phone.   

I recently rang another crown court to enquire about a charge and the outcome of the case and was provided with all the relevant info.  They did ask who I was, so I told them I was a concerned member of the public.

I suspect the money laundering charges arise from the fact the two companies annual reports showed turnovers nowhere near what the reality must have been. I linked to them in a previous thread a few months back.
I suspect that if they'd declared the proper figures - and paid tax - they would have been left alone

I rang the court and asked after the trial, they wouldn't tell me much that isn't in the public domain already, asked how they pleaded and they said they didn't have access to that information, the only new information I could get was just that there will be a hearing on August 22nd of this year before the main trial in January 2019.

Sandys' website made it pretty clear what went on and they were assiduous in linking to all reports/reviews (unless they were unfavourable ones), so they could hardly claim that they did not know. If the police captured that information it would be damming.

10 weeks, jeez that's a serious case, and I would guess a long custodial sentence if they are found guilty, mind you with the record of the Police in recent cases, they'll walk on the first day.

btw,it was World Famous Babes that raised the bar for Manchester parlours.

I'd say WFB's set the bar but it was Sandys who raised it.

WFB's was the first seriously run parlour in the area. They were even the first ones to have a website (imagine my excitement when I saw the URL advertised on the reception wall and then had to REALLY concentrate so I would remember it when I got back home...........no smartphones in those days.)

Sandys took it to a whole different level though. They made it corporate. Branding on posters, photos, website. They even gave out membership cards like WTF am I going to do with this ???

I always found the reception to be too sterile. Two sofas facing each other filled with salivating men-it wasn't an environment I found relaxing. I actually preferred some of the lesser known parlours as they seemed more down to earth.

Thinking of all the hype the place got and Merv's endless promotion I didn't really have that many brilliant experiences there with the exception of Zoe, Angel and who can forget Kerry ?

They even went so far as to register their name and logo as a trademark with the Intellectual Property Office, I wonder if that's going to come up in court. Just shows how untouchable they thought they were, protecting the brand name of their illegal business with a government body.

Fascinating the reminiscences this thread's provoking, with little or nothing directly to do with the Court case.

The Prestwich branch was about a mile down the road from Whitefield police station & I was as sure as I could be that some of the coppers from there called in at the end of a shift. I always wonder if the Management thought that, and the tolerance there seemed to be of Parlours in Greater Manchester at the time I went there - 2004-2006 - gave them some sort of immunity?

When I first started going to Sandys it was like a breath of fresh air onto the whole scene, previously you were relying on the honesty of the telephone description now all of a sudden there was a website with pictures including face in the early days.
Back in those days  herself Sandy worked the room, she claimed to be a former air hostess and was a fit 30s blonde, good looking woman, and very good.
The other one I remember from the early days was Kelly who was a real dynamo and an absolutely outstanding fuck.
But as the place got bigger with more rooms and 2 branches the quality of service deteriorated the girls were fit but the service was generally poor as they were so busy and turning over so many punters, I would say Jaded is probably the best description.

There was some stiff competition from parlors in MK but having tried most of them, I still preferred SS where the quality of the girls was better.

I also used to go Arabesque in Bury quite a lot as well. Seedy as hell but I had some great fucks there. Remember one tiny Indian girl with the broadest Lancashire accent you'd heard. Arabesque was a dump. Most girls were street girls that the owner picked up around Rochdale. Lots of BB on offer apparently and stories of STD's being rife anongst the girls as well as alcohol and drug abuse on the premises. More than one girl also died there according to some on another site. It closed a couple of years ago out of the blue.
