My take is
Taz if a Fluffy White Knight, we all have all known that for ages. Most of us have discounted his reviews, they are untrustworthy.
What is new is him changing other members reviews, that should never happen, it is up to Admin what sanctions he should face.

James is just a troll who is not intrested in the truth but causing trouble, he like Tazs reviews should be ignored.

The only person who can resolve this is Admin IMHO.

On your first points...yes absolutely...people who have been on the Scottish forums for any length of time, know he's a previously banned White Knight & either ignore or as you say discount anything he posts...but we don't protest...and I'm guilty myself, since he was re-instated I've just ignored him...but is that the right thing to do?

On your second point about James...as someone who contributes lots of reviews, I'm going disagree with you here...because people like James, and for example on the Scottish forums...Courtney & Happyjose...actually Police and call out White Knights, Trolls & Dodgy posters generally and imo, are invaluable to keeping the integreity of this forum intact.

This is true. James doesn’t contribute a single fucking review but he sniffs out fluffies well. However that’s not the point. The thread has come to be the consummate annoyance of many members with Taz’s ‘reviews’ and specifically his cheek in altering another punter’s ratings. Even if it wasn’t against the rules, no self-respecting person would roughshod over someone else like that. He’s usually sneaky at following the letter of the rules while ignoring the spirit, so has escaped with temporary bans before. Probably will this time unless Admin can be persuaded that he is not a plus to UKP but a big minus.

He’s obsessed with anything that might deflect from his own abuses. He trades reviews for favours, and so his reviews are not ‘independent’: they might even be an encouragement to other sad fucks to abuse the system. He’s got away with it in the past partly as he shouts louder than anyone else on the Scottish forum and some members will think, if Admin’s not going to ban him, why bother?

Jordain is a service provider who sensibly stopped posting. Taz didn’t.

And there have been worse. I recall a post where he specifically linked the promise of one one of his glowing reviews to preferential service. Maybe it was deleted.

Those quotes are quite old. Perhaps he told Admin he would reform and was more discreet in offering good UKP reviews in return for discounts. He has built his reputation on glowing reviews. Reviews aimed at pleasing prossies. Maybe he should start his own website as few are in any doubt as to his continued behaviour.

Regarding the changing of someone else’s review rating, twice, it is difficult to see how that was an error in good faith even in the first place when he must have seen the same memo from Admin as everyone else on getting helper privileges did, which specifically stated review ratings should only be changed at the request of the reviewer, and even then to be wary of changing a negative rating. He was already a member when that was introduced so hard to see how he ‘missed’ it. And even if he ‘forgot’ it shows little respect for those privileges if he didn’t check the rules on them before exercising them.

I am in no doubt that he is a disgrace to UKP, a backdoor for prossies wanting to be able to boast a good UKP review without actually earning it in the normal way. It’s almost like a well-known restaurant reviewer who announces himself in advance, promises a glowing review if the restaurant pulls out all the stops to give the best meal imaginable, and then suggests in advance that a ‘discretionary’ bill might also be appropriate given his fame, high visibility and ‘quality’ of review. Fuck all use to Mr Nobody who just goes in and pays good money. And as many people on this thread have testified, they see tazman1002001‘s reviews as helpful to prossies but fuck all use to a punter trying to discern value for money.

He is a fairly experienced and skilful keyboard warrior. Perhaps that helps him to fly under Admin’s radar. Some fluffies have found his reviews ‘entertaining’ or ‘harmless’. Many people have said ‘just ignore them.’ All I can humbly suggest is that Admin might perhaps re-consider the ‘value’ of such a person’s ‘contribution’ to the UKPunting Forum.

Marm for some reason you are missing out the key bit of wording that this punter said, and this was what ultimately made me think that the op giving a negative initially then saying it was a POSITIVE, in reflection it should be a neutral. (At that time I was not clear on the rules about changing the ratings as I had never done one before and didn't realise they had to come from the Op, I now know this)

Let's be honest. Similar has been happening a lot in posts. I'm not defending him but the only difference is that Taz had the Admin rights to physically change the rating.

Says he made a mistake as didn’t get the rules the first time he changed the review.  Seems to be deflecting why he changed the review the second time (though has been asked numerous times).  First time he changed it could simply be an error, after it was changed back and he changed it again, shows a level of intent.  Avoiding and deflecting the answer to this is the issue here.  A person with this level of access, should act like someone who has been given the privilege and treat it with respect.  Not personal gain, which is coming across due to not answering the question directly many pages ago.
