The paranoia at times is really astounding.
All this bollocks about punting phones being essential, etc. I have been punting for 35 years without a punting phone. Indeed for the first half of that period didn't even have a phone! We had to use a quaint old fashioned thing called a call box.
I really do wonder why some people bother such is their paranoia about either catching this that or the other, or being caught by their other halfs. A much greater risk than any of this is simply that you will have wasted your money on a crap punt. That is the real risk.

If you are attached a punting phone is essential, why risk a wg calling or texting you out of the blue?if single I wouldn't bother with one

Yep good point, on reflection I would still keep my punting phone regardless as it has never let me down and stays safely stored away when I am not punting

Breakdowns, speeding fines, parking fines, finishing in a bad area, car theft will all increase the further you go.

As does the risk of being back late and having no sensible explanation.

Travelling any distance - certainly by road is also a pain in the arse these days.
I would certainly never travel miles just for a punt anymore. The only reason I travel to London to punt is because I also go for other things and you can pleasantly and comfortably travel by train. No longer will I endure 100+ mile return road rips just for a bloody punt.

50mins too close? You gotta be kidding. For me, 50mins is too far. The only place I won't punt is my own locality but as there are no WG's on AW registered AFAIK, it isn't a problem. I've punted with girls in my own postcode area twice, one several times and bumped into one in the local supermarket. We ignored each other, as per the Punting Code of Conduct.

I have to disagree in that coming from a punting desert myself - 50 minutes can seem like a locality. For those living in the thick of London 50 minutes can seem like a real big mission for a punt.

OP - I do not think you really thought through your post. Perhaps it was a drifting thought you wanted to speak out loud. The thing is all time is subjective. What matters is if you think 50 minutes is too long to travel for a punt. Personally I will only travel for an hour for a well reviewed girl. For an unknown I would not travel for. There is too much risk involved in having my time wasted.

Haha, sometimes in London a bus can do only a few miles during 50 mins due to road traffic.

And sometimes a bus can take you from Chislehurst BR7 to London Victoria in 50 mins.
