I recently started up a thread asking about the same thing but for my 2nd punt, not my first.

It boils down to this: most agencies are run by and operate like complete bastards who are only after your money and as such will go out of their way to lie/trick/cheat you by any means they can come up with.

There are some however that are legit (not necessarily the more expensive ones). The only reliable way to tell them apart is to use GRIS and to cross reference them with the UKP forums to see if someone has had any luck with them in the past.
