Ok, I'm not after specifics, but I've got an appointment with Sexy Angelina next week, dead excited. But I've never been to Bristol before and looking on goggle maps, she's very central, where's good to park?

Sorry if it's an annoying question, I'm going to give myself plenty of time to get there, but I certainly don't want to be late. I like to plan ahead.

Bristol Car parking is never cheap. I''m not sure how central nor what time of day, as there is plenty of evening road parking. If you are coming in on the M32 you can always park in Cabot centre (easy to find at the end of the motorway) and walk maybe?

Offline Clanger

It depends where you live, but I would take the train if Angelina is in Cabot Circus; you can get off at Bristol Temple Meads and there are buses running constantly for Cabot Circus - about a 10 minute bus ride.

Unless you have experience of City driving, I wouldn't drive in Bristol, it's bloody horrible. Fast, aggressive, and then there's the business of trying to find your way out of the City to get home; you need a very accurate satnav to navigate the labyrinthian roads of Bristol; getting in isn't too hard, but getting out can drive you to despair. And then there are the motorway traffic jams; you do NOT want to get caught in one of those.

I've driven to Bristol once or twice without incident, but when it goes wrong it goes so very very wrong. I'm interested that Angelina is in the Cabot Circus area because that's not so hard to get to, but I usually avoid Bristol like the plague that it is.

If you have her address, take a smartphone with you (fully charged) and use the GPS to navigate to her place in advance; it's probably in walking distance. Once you know you can walk to her door in x number of minutes, you can go back into town and kill some time in the shopping centre.

Oh, btw watch out for the fcuking beggars. They're everywhere.

If she hasn't moved in the last 6 months then there is plenty of on street parking right outside her location, (not free but parking meter).

I know she was due to change apartments so don't know whether or not she has.

If you have a confirmed booking, text her & ask her postcode

Clangers post is bollocks

Driving in Bristol is no worse than any other city.  For Cabot Circus area I'd use Cabot Circus car park or The Galleries (a bit tight if you have a big car)

Should have said that,  I'd be coming through Wells. And her post code is by the docks.

Oh no. Bristol is BAD. I have been there, I have experienced it, it is insane. I know people who have been stuck in traffic jams around Bristol for hours; one guy some years ago was stuck overnight; he hit the traffic jam at midnight and didn't get out of it until 6am. He got 2 miles in 6 hours. Fuck Bristol. And not in a good way.

The central region is expensive to park, but prices drop considerably outside the inner ring road (even only just outside, as the Cabot Circus carpark is).  At the other end of the central region (handy for the harbourside area), I'd recommend Millennium Square - underground carpark and nearby multistorey.  For the Clifton area, there's the West End multistorey up Jacobs Wells road.

If Angelina is where I hear she is then you can park in Millenium Square car park.. BS15LL.
That is right in the harbourside area and there are lots of bars there too if you do happen to arrive a bit early. x

Offline Punter Griffin

Thanks for the replies, boys and girls. I think I'll wing it on the day, but I've got a fair idea of where I'm going. I plan to have a bit of a day out at the same time, as well as seeing the lovely Angelina.

I've got satnav on the phone, with a different profile so it doesn't remember the history *wink wink*.

Offline haystacks79

I'm not keen on driving in Bristol myself, but don't find it anywhere near as bad as some have tried to make it out! I also don't know if Angelina has moved yet, but I've used Cabot Circus car park (and enjoyed a walk through the city) to visit her before, and also made use of the park and ride as that stops very close to that part of the city, so was very convenient.

I wouldn't exactly say bollocks  ;), because Bristol traffic can be damn painful at times, but you're right, what city isn't? I have parked in Cabot Circus too and it is easy to access if you are approaching Bristol from M32. I missed the car park entrance on first visit to Bristol and the weight of traffic getting back to it made me late for my punt

Millennium Square is good for parking but not the cheapest. Better is a small car park near the Ibis hotel. Close to Temple Meads and all the "sights"

 :drinks: :diablo:

Offline PeachyAssFan

You can get to the Millenium Square car park and avoid using the roads around the "City Centre" so to speak. if that's what's putting you off. Just head towards the centre of Bristol using the A4 Hotwells Road. All very easy to negotiate, no multiple lanes and well sign posted. The worst part would be getting from Wells using the A37 to get to Winterstoke Road (near the Bristol City ground in Ashton) to pick up the A4 over the Cumberland Basin and straight onto the Hotwells Road.

I don't know what time you're heading to the city, but if you avoid the usual rush hours the traffic generally flows quite well.

Offline Punter Griffin

Having had a better look, I'm going to try the park and ride, just outside the city centre. It should make life easier and it goes straight into the city centre. It'll be getting back to the right one that'll be the fun bit, but that won't be so much of an issue. As long as I arrive, relaxed and on time.

If you're seeing angelina park in millenium square. Its a minute a walk away. Temple meads or the park and ride will be a massive pain in the ass. You may even be able to park on the street outside.

I'll do a review of Angelina and one of the drive up and parking.

...as I slow fiddled with my knob, she slowly slid backwards into the tight slot...

Offline Qwerty

Yes the road in from Wells is very slow, from Whitchurch onwards, but the park-and-ride is even slower - the bus lanes don't give the buses very much advantage.

There is also the Old Bristol Road out of Wells, via Chew Valley and East Dundry - steep and narrow in places, but with aid of satnav will deposit you in Hotwells, getting to Millennium Square avoiding Temple Meads and most of the city centre.

Either way best to just allow plenty of time - depending on the time of day, 1hr to be safe from Wells, more at rush hours.

Err no, Clanger's post is bollocks.  There are car park's everywhere in Bristol and hardly any irritating one way systems that you find in other cities.  If you have a Sat Nav its no different from anywhere else.  Finding a free parking space in the centre can be a problem but that's why there are car parks.  Sounds like he's not the type to drive full stop if a little traffic stresses him out.

Sorry I don't understand your point or are you still talking bollocks?   If you came in on the A38 I assume you came from the North so you could either go back out on the A38 (same way you came) or to avoid the Gloucester Road/A38 traffic head out on the M32 (which most people use to get into Bristol rather than the A38).  Another option being head along the Portway then onto the M5 which heads North/South.  There are just as many routes out if you are coming from the South.

Doesn't matter now anyways, just got a mail saying she can't make it.  :( :dash:

I'm off to Plymouth this weekend though, so I'll save my money for there and try Bristol another time, it was a bit of a trek for me.

I'm not great with road numbers, but surely the closest the A39 gets to Bristol is Corston on the the outskirts of Bath?

  All that advice and then its off.

I live in Bristol and all I can say is - don't meet girls in the centre during rush hour as the traffic is horrendous!

I also find it amusing people talking about cost of parking - you're paying Angelina upwards of £160 so who cares about a few quid for parking?

Street meters will typically be about £1 per hour, and free in the evenings.  Just avoid NCP.

Cheers!  :drinks:

Hi Katie. She moved from her place next to the river on Harbourside a while back, and when I saw her a few months ago was in Deanery Rd, literally 50 metres from where you used to meet in Partition St.  So the cheapest place to park would be where you used to park ie. for free at the Travelodge!    There are parking meters right outside her door for those that don't know about the Travelodge.

Her profile says she is taking a day off today. So maybe you didn't miss out after all.

She is definitely worth seeing though. 627 AW feedbacks don't lie.

She splits her time between Bristol and Exeter (she pronounces it etcetera) every two weeks.
