Just an experience I would like to share this with you.
I was in Thornaby this afternoon near the Benfield Van Centre. Pulled up opposite on the kerb to do some paperwork, when I noticed a 'lady' with a half reasonable figure looking over. Surely not I thought and carried on with my paperwork. I kept looking and so did she. Eventually she was up to the window and asked did I want 'business'. She looked like a middle aged Amy Winehouse with poor tattoos with one black eye and a vacant look. I said no and drove off!
I shouldn't be surprised, but I honestly I have never come across this as I thought 'the streets' had been cleared.
Had she been better presented I may have even considered it!!
Anyone else had a similar experience in the Middlesbrough/Stockton area?

I've not had an experience like that, but they are still around in Stockton and Middlesbrough. I have a friend who lives in Stockton and I see them sometimes when I'm leaving his place on a Satruday night.

I was sent out to a breakdown in Middlesbrough once and i was underneath the broken machine when i saw a pair of feet stood next to it so i called out hello to see who was there and a lady replied Hi are you looking for business ? I just said does it look like i'm looking for business ? At that she just walked away. This happened a few years ago now when i was still a spanner jockey and the streets had not been cleared of WGs.
I didn't think there were any street walkers left in boro now, never seen any when i go to see my friend. Maybe he lives in a different area to where they hang out now.

I haven't seen any street walkers for years, what with the internet etc. But I'm not that naive to think that they are not still about.

Maybe because we use the net, we don't see whats actually on the street?

While not wanting to tar them all with the same brush most of these streetwalkers are junkies and will do just about anything for the price of a fix. My mate's wife is a social worker in Newcastle and deals with a few of them.

Totally agree with you Sar-Major, maybe because we don't expect to see street walkers anymore we don't really look for them and therefore miss them. I have to admit i miss the street girls, my best punt by far was with a boro street girl many years ago, went by the name of Nicky and had the best pair of legs i have ever seen and she really knew how to fuck. Ahh the memories.

I'm not questioning you here of course so don't think I am, but I didn't think there was any kind of red light district in Newcastle. Do you mean that your mate's wife is from Newcastle and goes down to Boro or have I completely misread you?

She both lives and works in Newcastle. Obviously he can't tell me about individual cases as his wife's relationship with these girls is confidential, but as the root of their issues is drugs then I wouldn't have thought they would necessarily hang out in groups or frequent certain areas. They may just try to work where they live as their only concern is where their next fix is coming from.

I was doing some work at a place in Gateshead that was a center for people who had a history of substance abuse....got talking to a lass who was in a shit state...she started giving me her life story...Mam died, raped and beaten by her step-dad,raped by step-brother,left home at 15 and lived on streets for years.Forced to take drugs then put on the game....her words..." Ive been raped that many times I dont mind it now".
Friggin tragic.

I don't know if its "Still" classed as a red light area, but it used to be along Elswick Road, Westmoreland Road, and Rye Hill areas.
