Choking until someone passes out?  Choking becomes catastrophic within seconds.  Someone might think they'll notice if it goes wrong but the flaw in that plan is that the signs you notice could be the signs that it is too late.  It's like thinking you'll notice when you need to use a seatbelt when you're going through the windscreen.
