Favourite Wetherspoons .

I realise Wetherspoons can divide opinion but for those who do tend to frequent the establishments do you have any favourites. Personally I like the Winter Gardens in Harrogate I think the worst I have been in was the one in Gateshead town centre, it was a proper old man's local .  The Angel in Whitby is nice out of season.

I liked the Samuel Peto in Folkstone - it's in an old Baptist Church, and has upstairs and downstairs bars.

Why are the toilets always upstairs in Spoons 

Well I say always but we have I think 3 Spoons in Blackpool and one of them The Albert & Lion is an outlier and the toilets are actually downstairs, but I mean downstairs as in the cellar

There are quite a few I like, particularly the ones converted from old cinemas/theatres like those in Llandudno & Colwyn Bay.
I also like The Castle Hotel in Ruthin Square.
The Penny Black in Northwich converted from the main post office is also interesting
I much prefer the quirky ones with some history than modern ones.

Never encountered that - the nearest 'spoons to me is a converted cinema, so it only has 1 floor  with the bar just below where the screen would have been.

My favourite is the Moon Under the Water in Manchester. A converted cinema with two bars - and yes the toilets are upstairs!

Can’t say I ever search them out. But I’ve certainly been in loads all over the place.

Maybe because there are loads…….. all over the place I mean.

Of the ones I have visited mostly if I’m out and about,  Wimbledon, Kingston, Fulham Broadway etc.

No particular favourite.
I’ve a couple of watering holes I would consider calling my local and neither of them are Spoons.

Do love searching out a Spoons on a hot day.

Worst one I've visited (probably due to 100k+ crowded streets) was The White Swan at Highbury Corner.  Place is filthy and sticky.  Toilets flooded with piss.   We also got ripped for pint larger shandy where he charged full price for stela + lemonade.

Notable places:
- The Sun Wharf, London Bridge station.  Clean, modern and little nooks to hide away for a pint.
- The Barrel Vault, St. Pancras station. Modern and always busy
- The Wibbas Down Inn, Wimbledon.  Huge place with double entrance.  Surprisingly clean.


In and around London, I do like to pop into The Montagu Pyke on Charing Cross road.  This place is proper rammed.  Cheapest pint by far in the area.   Forget the place in Leicester square!

The Golden Beam in Headingley, Leeds, is the best I've been in anywhere (Harrogate is a close second).
Excellent large premises, nice staff (particularly the young women who parade around the place delivering chips, lol, perve) and the prices of course ridiculously low for the city. Clientele is mainly students during term time with a good sprinkling of local regulars and at weekends often the rugby crowd.

Two up here in Scotland for me, The Counting House in Glasgow and The Standing Order in Edinburgh, both are very impressive in terms of architecture.

If you use the other entrance on Greek St. It looks like the doors to some small pub. Then once inside you step into that huge auditorium 

I do love a good pub crawl. Mind you………… anyone asking for a Stella shandy, wouldn’t be made welcome in my gang.

I'm fond of the one above the WH Smith in Victoria Station. I've had many a post-punt pint there after visiting House of Divine.
