On a more positive note, has anyone here obtained the Meningitis B vaccination? This can be bought privately, offers some protection from gonorrhea although I do not know if it protects against the treatment resistant strain?

I am also wondering if the batch of students given Men B vaccine in the spring outbreak,  may be an important source of data in the future.

I had a minor op last year and they put me on 9 (YES NINE) courses of antibiotics over 6 weeks.  Only one was for a know infection all the others were prophylactic.

When I went in for my final consultation they gave me another, I groaned and said "not another, do I have to have it" and they said we always give it just in case.

Once you know how animals are literally reared on antibiotics then you may understand why they are apparently becoming less effective.

There is normally a very good reason for using a broad spectrum of antibiotics. Not preventative. Sometimes patients simply misunderstand what they have been prescribed and why

It must've been something serious either that or the hospital was filthy with all kinds of bacteria floating around. I had heart surgery last year and the only antibiotics I was given was intravenously via a canular in the back of my hand during the procedure. Only kept me in for an hour afterwards, left with no follow up medication, wouldn't let me drive home though, they watched me get into my lift.

As has been mentioned, that is highly unusual and there must have been very specific circumstances and criteria relating to your personal treatment.
