Hi, do people just use the NHS's SH:24 postal STI kits to test themselves or do you go to a clinic? Does anyone have any recommendations for as there seems to be quite a few private clinics around Leicester?

Err no. Go the GUM clinic at the LRI or stop going bareback and hope that you haven't contracted an incurable disease.

It's not just bareback that transfers things. Its good practice to have a MOT every so often and make sure everything's fine and safe.

I've just looked at the local hospital or walk in centre for GUM clinics and gone in there. Mentioned i was also a swinger and got the full testing, including a blood test, just to be sure. Gives you peace of mind too. I know a number of people who get the postal tests though, and it does seem to cover things.

Thanks. Yeah, I just want to be precautious and wanted to know what my options are.

Does anyone have any details about the GUM clinic at LRI btw e.g. opening times as I can't seem to find them online? Is it okay for non urgent just routine checkups?

There's one on the top floor of the Haymarket.

I just use the free tests via SH24.  Can't imagine why anyone would want to go in person when you can just do it at home and post it off.

Unless your wife's opening your post on the regular...

Presumably it turns up in a nice little anonymous, unmarked box? So what do you say when your wife asks what's in it, if she's curious? And whatever lie you come up with, what do you say when she says "sounds interesting, can I see?".

I can imagine why anyone would want to go in person.

I've tried the postal test previously however I find the blood tests fiddly and end up having to pierce 4 fingers to draw enough blood.  :dash:

Same for me, I just couldn’t get the blood out of my fingers at all, and ended up ringing the clinic to ask what j should do. Half an hour later I was there and it was all done within 20 mins. I was nervous and a bit embarrassed at first, but the staff were great. They’ll have seen it all before anyway.

I've used the Haymarket clinic a few times. Results get texted so use your punting phone.

Do they ask your home address details? Their website suggests its only for those living in Leicester city but I'm wondering if there's any way they enforce this?

Nope its a multi agency operation (City Council, NHS & Inclusion Health Care). Just say you work in the City and its the nearest accessible clinic.

Thanks for this, helpful  :drinks:

I can't get in anywhere closer to home these days, they all seem to focus on 16-24 year olds - unless you're showing symptoms. Last few checks I've done have been the postal kits but the Leicester option is good to know.

So if you go for the postal test then presumably they post it to your house? Maybe your wife might open it by mistake or se might open the results letter by mistake? Possible double the risk of having your hobby discovered....

Yes depending on your personal circumstances. You could have it delivered to work, or a collection point. It comes in plain packaging but might raise the question what's that?

Offline Fence Post

I've never seen an option to select a different point of delivery. Only my address at the start.

I have bought kits from Lloyds online pharmacy. I can have them delivered to home, but I understand you can have them delivered to one of the Evri parcel pick-up points. You used to be able to collect OTC before they closed their branches.
