Jimmy Hill was ahead of his time in many ways.

Davenports brewery were the Villa’s first front of shirt sponsor for the 82/83 season (I think). Shirt sponsorship has evolved from a brand name only (Hitachi/JVC/Sharp etc) to a more logo-based approach, which at times can be horrific. Wolves Doritos shirt was horrible and Fulham’s Pizza Hut shirt was gross.

The joke around these parts with the Doritos logo was that it stood for division one rubbish in tatty orange shirts

In fairness i've always thought that you and a few others have always been honest about your side and said when things haven't been right or you've played poorly etc plus taken the banter sportingly 

I've also on occasion said when I thought Utd deserved to win such as a couple of years ago beating City in the FA cup final where they were clearly the better side.

What I take issue with for over 30 years now since Man U became contenders is the fans (and there seems to be a disproportionately large number of them) who simply can't take any criticism whatsoever and throw their toys out the pram at the slightest thing

Unfortunately Shed was the worst poster of puerile uninformed bitter shite if it was anything relating to LFC , the city or Liverpool folk, and there's been others too who will jump on the bandwagon.
I believe he's a decent guy, with a good knowledge of the game, but IMHO his prejudice clouds his judgement.

I can remember a time before the rivalry between the 2 clubs became so bitter and full of vitriol from sections of both fans.
I loved watching the Busby babes and was shocked at the Munich disaster, watching it unfold on the news everyday.

I've only just recently come across the football discussions (and not sure if I'll spend much time here), but the vitriol between United and Liverpool is steeped in nastiness and history.

I expect it both ways with Leeds, Liverpool, Everton (there used to be more animosity with them than Liverpool), and city to a degree, but when it comes from fans of teams like Stoke, it leaves me a bit perplexed - who the fuck are we to them? Some of them need counselling  ......

One thing does perplex me about Liverpool.
Their fans are great at getting hold of a cause and kicking up a stink, but despite them missing out on 3 titles due to city's cheating, I hardly hear a thing?

From what I've seen of Gordon for Barcelona he has been mainly coming on as a substitute but he has been getting a lot of "assists" and a couple of goals so far .

Last season I complained about Coventry having a small squad for the championship, now we have signed 10 or eleven new players but only 2 have gone out on loan for a season. Goalkeeper Dovin to Leyton Orient and Kitchen to Sheffield Utd on loan. I just can't understand how we are going to have with such a big squad and still be within the regulations  . I can only assume Doug King and Frank Lampard are building our squad to push for promotion from the Championship once more after we have been relegated from the Premier League. We have spent in the region of £127 million which is a massive amount for a club like Coventry but not compared to the likes of Man City and Liverpool who can spend £120+ million on one player

Couple of nice articles in the press about the shambolic transfer triangle between Everton Monaco and Chelsea
Apparently Balogen refused to sign because of the way Everton treated him during the medical -sounds like they avoided signing another Prima Donna

So now Monaco are looking to offload Balogen to Turkey as are Spuds with Richarlison as the window is still open there

Great move by Turkey to have a window open till Friday enabling them to look for players nearing their sell by date
