On an episode of The Chase that I watched last night I learnt something I never knew before – but I dare say that others have long known – namely that Everton were the original occupiers of Anfield.
That was in 1892 what has it got to do with the 2026/27 football season?

Why derail this thread with something loads of us know already but you've only just found out.

Maybe we should start a 'Have you learned anything today?' thread? oh hang on . . . . . . . .  .

Offline Thephoenix

I think the term for that is " you were mugged" :D Newcastle fans singing " there's only one greedy bastard" everytime he touched the ball
If you would like to waste another £125 million we have Ellis Simms or Haji Wright available or perhaps we could do an offer £125 million for the pair of them- a bargain

Maybe we could do a swap with our other two dud  full back signings Careless Kerkez and Jeremie Ping-pong. :unknown:

Oddly enough, I did think long and hard about whether to put this "discovery" here or in the "Have you learned anything today?" thread.

But I zigged when I perhaps should have zagged (as Mark Labbett of The Chase would put it).

Deja vu mate remember Andy Carrol, like Isak excelled in Newcastle's style of play but couldn't adapt to the way Liverpool play.

Be interesting next Saturday to see what sort of reception Tonali gets and more interesting what happens with Bruno when we play Arsenal in November.

On Kevin Keegan that was some achievement by the fan's group 'Wor flags' to put a display of that size on, every seat in the stadium, including the away end were part of it.

The centre piece on the pitch was made out of the tributes left outside of the ground.
Hidden Image/Members Only

There's been a very moving letter published as well.

Today's Liverpool Echo had a front page tribute and inside pages showing all the tributes including Dalglish and Rush laying the wreath from LFC.
They also printed the letter from Kevin's family.

It's a great credit to Kevin Keegan that we thought he was irreplaceable when he left, and it's true to say that only someone as great as Sir Kenny Dalglish could take over Kevin's number 7 shirt.

As an aside and not wanting to derail the thread, I think it's scandalous that Kevin never received a knighthood.

I’m no lover of the honours system as it’s pointless as far as I’m concerned. Pedos getting knighted, the old school tie network etc etc.

So many far more deserving never getting a mention 🤷🏼

Same as the 1966 England World cup winning team apart from Geoff Hurst and Bobby Charlton, yet Gareth Southgate was made a Sir for winning fuck all as England manager  :unknown:
To this day Keegan is the only English player to win back to back Ballon d Ors World player of the year awards.

Will probably never be done again by an English player ... deserved a knighthood for this alone.

Edit - I was going to post that Dalglish looked drawn / frail / old at the memorial but a quick Google indicated that he's undergoing cancer treatment.
Must have really struck a chord with him that Keegan was the same age and lost his life to cancer

They were 4-0 up at one stage.

worse than that they scored first tonight so 4 up on aggregate then conceding 5

One of the worst nights in Celtic's European history and that is a pretty low bar

Yep

Gaby Abongalashite on TalkSport is growing on me
He must have had some electrocution lessons as the brummy accent whilst still there isn't annoying
Cmmenting that players joining Spursey are rejects from other clubs
He speaks his mind doesnt care what people think [& TBF takes the mick out of himself]
Hitting the nail on the head highlighting that this season they've gone in for players who haven't been targeted by other clubs

My observation is they offer top whack transfer fees + wages & as if by magic the player arrives
They've gone from offering minimal transfer fees wages in previous seasons forever to going all out like they've won the lottery & are spunking it whenever & wherever they can

Out of the clubs spending big with a new manager [De Zerbi late on appointment last season so no material difference] I see them as the most likely for the wheels to come orf
If they carry on playing like on the weekend the manager will be gone by Xmas if not before
The only reason that they aren't propping up the table with Villa is that Brentford missed a pen hitting the post

I bet City will be jumping for joy if its Vamoush Marmoush  :D
Spurs will be close to £400mill spending and apparently aren't finished yet
Now which club last spent £400m over a summer & saw the wheels fall orf relatively ?
£1/2bn spends total ?
For a club which has finished 17th twice & haven't played outside the country for a good while unless its on a pre season tour how does this work on SCR [no €uro comp money] ?

+ several ££££££s on good accountants and lawyers to make the SCR sums add up or defend  them ?

for the first time SCR is specifically threatening points deduction

Perhaps Spuds is working on a 3 year plan
Year 1 - finish 6th & even with points deduction still not relegated
Year 2 - top 5, meet Premiership SCR and pay fine for missing stricter Euro SCR
Year 3 home & clear

This is pretty embarrassing, giving up a 4-0 advantage.

The SPL contrived to give them the title with some outrageously one sided refereeing
Scottish Football higher ups nearly as bent as FIFA no wonder it took so long for them to criticise GI

LASK Austrian champions [twice] not exactly the best league in europe however still beating the other established clubs & heading in the right direction :hi:
Average attendance 14,000 & an annual income of just over £40m
On the other hand Celtic income close to £150m & profits @ £40m+
With Celtic just under 60,000 average attendance which shows that there is the square root of FA else to do north of the icewall  :D

This hilarious result shows how shite Scottish footy is they're good enough to win domestically & fall apart in Europe
The owners are more than happy to keep generating the cash trousering it rinse & repeat
A breath of fresh air in the making Hearts looking like they could finally break the dominance of the top two
Choked off & it was a close shave for the SPL
Like i'm remotely interested laugh over tho i hope Hearts win it this season 🤞& i'll check again in 2027

Raheem Sterling in court for dangerous driving after smashing his Lambo on the M3 in May, single vehicle incident and he had nitrous oxide for inhalation, a source close to him reports that no drugs were found in his system but can they even test for nitrous oxide at the roadside, I suspect we all know what's happened here

The source added the player had faced "an extremely tough couple of years" and had been made to "feel worthless" and "forgotten about".

Me neither i had to look
A quality effort David V Goliath especially over turning the 1st match deficit
They pay an average £5k a week Celtic on 3x that [which given the output is way too much obvs]

I like it when obscure european teams get a run together & upset the apple cart
Last season FK Bodø/Glimt now where are they from ?  :unknown:

In 2023 there was a banger Utd [wage bill £150m+] beat by FC Copenhagen [£17m]
YTONM it certainly was  :yahoo:

Bell End's speciality is getting beat in the 1st round of the cup competitions
Now where the fuck is Histon when its at home ?  :D
Which is why the BBC allocate the FA Cup 3rd round coverage

At least Leeds managed to progress to the 3rd round of the Carabao for the 1st time since i can remember
Forest were truly dreadful same on the w/e
They've got Liverpool next at Anfield, good luck with that
Their owner is a balanced tolerant type what could possibly go wrong for Glasner ....
7-1 in the sack race is looking pretty generous
Thats a tip for @BR

I've had enough of these footballers being depressed, feeling worthless and all that.
The truth is they do in a week what we normal people don't do in a year, go and work in a factory or have a normal job and see how it is.
They don't realise how lucky they are in life, they can go and treat themselves and get help, not go around and put other people in danger.
And their excuse...oh I am depressed, my self esteem is low.
Anyway rant over.

Well thats coz he didn't provide a specimen, his entourage will need to try harder than that

Don’t think this has been mentioned before -
Raheem Sterling crashed his car on the M3 and as part of the reason claimed he was feeling “ forgotten about “

From the local news channel:
"Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen.
"The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange [Hampshire], on 28 May, 2026.
"No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. Mr Sterling is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September."
Police suspected Sterling of "driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs," but that has not been included in the charges.
In May a source close to Sterling told BBC Sport there was "no proof" of drugs in his system.
The source added the player had faced "an extremely tough couple of years" and had been made to "feel worthless" and "forgotten about".

Decent performance tonight though the penalty made it unnecessarily hard; 3 more yellow cards, Dedic looked  a decent player Pope now officially completely out of favour ?
I can see Jaissle's style being very popular with the fans if he can avoid losing games they had won
They pressed well as a team and every player worked hard which is a major plus point to the fans

Because teams don't play their full strength teams until the quarter final stage. For a team like Coventry our focus is staying in the Premier league so thats why we put out our 2nd choice team against Plymouth. A chance to give fringe players a run out.

They are struggling in 3rd division in La Liga :

Quote
While he did not know what the situation for his comeback would be, he has rejoined the club during their most challenging time - and opted to donate his salary to Zaragoza's foundation.

"I don't need a contract. I have a very successful career. I have taken care of my money," Herrera says.

"I can give this present to myself. To put that shirt on... for free because I wanted to help my club, my team, my city.
