I have just had a WhatsApp saying I booked an escort and didn't turn up and asking me to pay a £2000 pound fine or face kidnap or extreme violence
, They also say they know where I live.
The number is in the Dominican Republic Republic. I have ignored it and blocked them.
Anyone else experienced this kind of thing?

Offline Stevelondon

Nope. It’s never been heard of before.  :D :drinks:

Are you still drinking and on holiday already, Steve?

@ shiptonlad. It happens a lot it seems. There are multiple threads on it if you scroll through a couple of pages. You've done the right thing. The scammers are just chancers. Maybe 1 in a 100 gets spooked and pays them. Yet another reason to use a punting phone.

Yes it's coming up quite regularly mate hence the other comment.

I think if you search around there are many examples of it happening.
You've done the right thing.

Cheers all.

I have never booked anyone and not turned up. They posted a very old photo of me so they must have hacked my phone somehow.

Offline MaxVerstappen

This is no joke, it’s best to look for a new ID and emigrate to Mexico.

Good luck

I don't like the sound of that. Is this a punting phone?

Have you made any enquiries, contacted any SPs using your telephone be it WhatsApp, SMS text or phone call?

Offline shiptonlad

Yes. But never failed to turn urn up for a booking.

I would guess it's someone you have contacted and probably didn't make a booking with, might not have even received a reply to your enquiry.

Online RandomGuy99

They send you messages regardless of whether you made a booking. Making an enquiry gives them your number and then they try their luck. Just block em and get on with your life.

I do wonder if some ads are purely clickbait to harvest phone numbers for this kind of scam. Cunts.

This.

End thread

PS: if you are still worried, ask them about monthly payments and what are their interest rates?!

Offline shiptonlad

Thanks for all your contributions. I am just going to get on with life. Good luck to them if they try getting past my dog!

Offline TrampZ

ffs i have had loads of them, just tell them you are a police officer and block them.

Offline shiptonlad

I told them I worked for the National Crime Agency. Haven't heard back.

Offline jgillis

They posted a very old photo of me so they must have hacked my phone somehow.

Was it an old WhatsApp profile picture?

Offline shiptonlad

Yes it was my original profile picture so not difficult to find.

So they didn't hack your phone, they just scraped a public picture of you. Don't sweat it, move on...

Offline shiptonlad

I have thanks. Slept well last night which I wouldn't have if I mhad been worried.

Your reviews are mainly Thai, how do you find them usually? You also posted a negative review , any chance they matched you to that review esp the fact she asked you questions?

But there are numerous threads reporting threats completely unrelated to reviews.

I’ve been fortunate enough to only ever have recieved 2 of these types of messages and from my experience I don’t believe they were linked to actual bookings or reviews. When I received them on both occasions it was after I’d contacted VS adverts for more details on girls who looked too good to be true.

I think they come from a combination of fake accounts or B&S girls (Eastern European/Latino/Asian) who are controlled by OCG networks and they store the numbers and try their luck.

I know this is well documented but for the record once again the best advice is to:

- ALWAYS use a punting phone/number
- NEVER have a photo of yourself in the profile
- NEVER click any links shared on messages/whatsapp messages
- ALWAYS ignore/block any messages received

you've probably got your phone listed online on google somewhere, linked to your name or photo
That's why you need an unidentifiable punting phone - and to stay away from WhatsApp

Agree, but the negative review is from this month and sounds like she became less friendly when he asked her questions

Offline JohnsonSchlong

Why are people still making the rookie error of using their own phone and willfully circulating their personal number within the murky world of prostitution?

Get a seperate 'punting' phone or use an app which generates a second number like textme.

Maybe this information needs to go on a banner on the homepage or something

It won't be that. It will simply be the result of responding to a fake advert, one he probably never got a response to, which was deliberately posted as a scam just to collect phone numbers. It's been going on in the USA for years, principally by groups in the Caribbean (Dominica mainly from memory) but it spread to the UK around five years ago. It won't be anything to do with reviews, it's just a pure scam.
Collectively we've seen hundreds of these, none of us have been harmed yet
Tell them to fuck off, in future use a punting phone, don't use WhatsApp - and just get on with life

All this commotion over nothing. This is an absolute waste of a thread…
