Anyone been here? It's a small border town to Malaysia , southern Thailand.
Watched a few YouTube videos, but would like some first hand advice.
Where to stay, where the fun bars are etc.
Thinking to go next year and travel through to KL. Which is a another kettle of fish entirely.
Thanks DM.

Never been there but the best advice is probably don’t go. Subject to Terror attacks apparently and as the FCO advise against travelling to that region it’s likely that any travel insurance you may have would become invalid.

That’s all bollocks. I’ve travelled to most of those southern provinces and they are as safe as anywhere else. There was a bomb that went off in tourist central Bangkok a few years ago, so it could happen anywhere although extremely unlikely. You’ve got more 100x more chance of getting robbed in London than getting caught up in anything.

I think it would be interesting to visit the far south. Quite safe if you don't off the beaten track. I believe it's known colloquially as "men's heaven". danok that is.

Not sure it’s fair or accurate to say that about all of it - if it is FCO advice not to travel to that area then any travel/holiday insurance is likely not to cover you- even though in practice it’s safe enough to go there!

Mate, the hookering zones in the Philippines are far more dangerous than anywhere in Deep South Thailand. Trust me Ive been to both. We have more bombs and terror incidents in the Uk than in south Thailand. Whilst I generally respect FCO advice, the one for Deep South Thailand is completely unnecessary, I’d be putting that advice out for the UK and London before there. I wouldn’t hesitate to go again, in fact I might be in a few months.

This post couldn't have come more timely, I have just started researching for a potential trip to Malaysia and Southern Thailand. From what I can understand so far, don't expect a smaller mirror-image version of Pattaya. It seems that the nightlife is more organised towards the Asian market; so Karaoke / KTV bars. I guess that the question is, what else apart from singing takes place in these bars!

If I am reading the current FCO advice there is no all but essential travel warning on Bukit Kaya Hitam / Dannok to Hat Yai (Route 4) or Padang Besar to Hat Yai (Route 4145)?
