Cialis and hearing loss

Has anyone else had sudden hearing loss and tinnitus after taking Cialis?
It's apparently rare ( or under reported).
I've had various tests and seen a consultant, but this appears to be the most likely cause.
This was daily Cialis btw.

Well it messes with your blood pressure so yes it can make your ears ring

Common side effects of daily tadalafil (Cialis) 2.5–5 mg include:

- **Headache**
- **Back pain**
- **Muscle aches**
- **Flushing (warmth/redness of face, neck)**
- **Nasal congestion or runny nose**
- **Indigestion or dyspepsia**
- **Joint pain**
- **Dizziness**

Less common but important/serious effects (seek medical attention):
- **Chest pain, severe dizziness, fainting**
- **Sudden vision loss or changes**
- **Sudden hearing loss or ringing in ears**
- **Priapism (erection lasting >4 hours)**

Precautions (brief):
- Avoid if taking nitrates or nicorandil (dangerous drop in blood pressure).
- Use caution with alpha-blockers, some antihypertensives, and certain CYP3A4 inhibitors (drug interactions).
- Discuss heart disease, stroke, low blood pressure, or severe liver/kidney disease with a clinician before starting.

It is very rare indeed.

Sudden hearing loss/tinnitus may occur as a result of a range of medications which are known to have ototoxic effects. Medication accounts for a fairly small proportion of total cases and ED meds account for a minority number within that group.

Because it is rare I understand it is difficult to evaluate whether cialis (daily or otherwise) is more prone to be ototoxic than the other ED meds. They possibly all carry and equal risk?

If you are seeing a Consultant you should be up to speed on treatment/prognosis

I've noticed that the range of erectile disfunction products behind the pharmacist has increased lately, lots of new ones. I personally can't use viagra anymore because of the red face and headache, so I wonder if any of the others are better. Sorry to hijack the thread.

Try a different one, i found it made me feel spaced out and numb to touch which was rubbish as my little soldier could barely feel he was being polished.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a treatment. Potentially oral steroids if you take them early enough, but the original doctor I spoke to took it down a different route, thinking it was an infection.

I don't know what your current timescale is from onset, but as I am sure you have also been told, at least a third of cases will resolve and this figure can be double that, but conversely at least a third are permanent. Early steroids (within 72 hours) may improve this prognosis, but also often prove ineffective. I hope you do get some improvement.

Thanks, no it is well passed the point of oral steroids being useful. The original out of hours GP didn't mention them and my regular GP wouldn't prescribe them because they thought nasal steroids would clear the eustachian tube and resolve it.
So I'm pretty much stuck with it, other than adaptation and hearing aids.

So not just once but an opportunity missed twice! Nasal steroids? Did you have any upper respiratory viral symptoms?

Anyway 'spilt milk' etc. You cannot be sure Cialis is responsible, but it was an extra red flag to be considered in the diagnostic equation and subsequent treatment regime.  Also, as above, oral steroids may not have helped the outcome anyway.

From my point of view, why not give them just in case anyway? But as you say what's done is done.
