We were walking down City Road this afternoon, observing the sad site of the now demolished Gaiety cinema and later bingo hall, when we noticed the door to Ambassadors was still shut. Curiosity got the better of us so we took a detour through the cobbled back lane and found the shutters still down. There was no sign of life apart from a man washing his head under a running tap at the side of the shutters.
