Author Topic: a sp said to me that I need to get myself checked out, but things look fine?  (Read 6802 times)

A recent visit to a sp - When this particular sp was giving me owo, she mention to me that I should get myself checked over at a sexual health clinic as she notice something wrong with the way my penis looked. Her english was not the greatest but what I could gather was that she was trying to notify me of a rash in the region of my penis. It looked fine to me. SHL website says that because I have got a rash down below that I should walk in to a sexual health clinic. I managed order another shl testing kit but the website did mention that I should still walk in to a sexual health clinic.

I would not know what to say to them as my penis appears to look normal to me.  :unknown:

Go in and say you have a rash and let them have a look. Best case, they find nothing and it'll put your mind at ease. Worst case, they say you have an infection and give you some medication or advice.

I think an STI test won't necessarily detect something that's causing a rash especially if you're only doing blood and urine tests not swabbing

A pubic rash isn't necessarily an STD - could be scabies, lice, fungal infections or any number of herpes-like viral infections

I see this not infrequently, usually around top of legs, close to scrotum. Some say it's the result of scrubbing hard, or scrub hard to try remedy it.

Definitely have it checked out, standard STI tests will not pick it up. Also gone are the days of GUM clinic visual inspection, if you do not tell them they do not know.

That's a little vague? Did she not point to it if there was a language issue?

That must be a first that you are lost for words?  :D ;)

You tell them that a casual sexual partner was concerned about something she saw and thought you needed to get checked, but you were unsure what she meant.

It is of interest to me that whatever she saw did not stop her providing OWO

Be honest, tell them you pay for sex, they won't judge you. They've seen it all before and that's what they are there for. You will get all the tests then. Don't be embarrassed. You can even give a false name. They usually text or call you with results. But do use condoms until results as it's one less infection to pass around to us lot.

It has a very characteristic smell, which you may pick up before actually seeing anything.

Yes and no, I’ve had very positive experiences in Clinics over the years and one very negative, where a junior doctor on rotational secondment from the attached hospital took a very dim view of someone my age with my medical history seeing SPs on a regular basis, her attitude changed from friendly and interested to icy cold, and I was only there to get a Hep B injection on the recommendation of SHL. I’ve often wondered what branch of medicine she went on to specialise in.

It does, and the smell hangs around afterwards, it's quite sour and distinctive - often contrary to the person's overall hygiene.

Perhaps you just need a trip to GP about the rash not a trip to GUM clinic?

Doc… more likely he’s hesitant because it’s a load of old codswallop.

The guy is a compulsive poster and almost certainly conjures a lot of this rubbish up just for the sake of making banal and BS posts for the “look at me” factor.

He just can’t help himself.

They don't really need to know, lots of non paying men catch STIs, have rashes etc

Twenty five years ago I sold my London flat to just such a female doctor, she was having to read up on STIs  before starting a stint at a clinic. She hated the idea of having to do it. She was from a rather strict Indian heritage background and was set on getting married and becoming a GP.

I pity the poor bastards who had to see her at the STI clinic.

I have encountered a couple of judgemental Drs/nurses, as you say on placement at the GUM. I was able to mention this to trusted GUM staff at my next appointment. I cannot be sure but one was present at a  particularly troublesome contraceptive implant change, but I try to keep a clear mind on these things.

I have never had a problem previously.
I have always used the nair hair removal cream, it is supposedly not meant to be used for private parts but I have had no problems before.

I did went through a period of using a men genital hair removal cream but this was more expensive and the nair hair removal product works just as good for me.

I used to get it bad as a teenager, was caused by wearing the then popular "brushed nylon" pants under my shorts while playing rugby - too much friction on the skin. The annoying thing is it's never really gone - 50 years on there's still a shadow in the skin from where the infection was, and I know that if I damage that skin again by e.g. walking too far in tight/sweaty clothes it'll break out again

Many years ago one of these brands was produced where I worked, 10 x the number of customer complaints about this product than every other product we made combined, normally stuff like My wedding has been ruined as I got chemical burns, this product should be banned etc

I've seen this shit eat through the packs they put it in and leak everywhere, also when they were making the bulk product if any of the active ingredients were spilt and not mopped up immediately then it used to eat through the ceramic tiles in the manufacturing area  :scare:

At an outcall in the absence of soap I used some Lynx shower gel as soap to freshen up, let's say I could definitely feel it upsetting my pH. Had to use some vaginal rebalancing treatment when I arrived home.

Sting slightly, yes that's because it's starting to react with and dissolve your skin just like it's dissolving the hair.
Remember different people have different sensitivities regarding things like skin and their reaction to chemicals and even sunlight etc

AI Overview of the active ingredient (Of the one I knew about)

Thioglycolic acid (TGA) is a colorless, highly corrosive liquid with a strong, unpleasant smell, containing both thiol and carboxylic acid functional groups. Primarily used in cosmetics for hair perming and depilatory creams, it is also used in PVC production, water treatment, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. TGA is highly toxic by inhalation or skin contact, requiring strict handling protocols.

Key Aspects of Thioglycolic Acid:
Formula & Structure:

 (also known as mercaptoacetic acid).
Hazards: Listed as a hazardous substance (CAS 68-11-1). It causes severe skin burns and eye damage, and is toxic if swallowed or inhaled.
Applications: It is the active agent in hair straightening and waving kits (perms) and hair removal products. It acts as a reducing agent in organic synthesis, metal finishing, and the production of stabilizers for PVC.
Safety Measures: In case of exposure, immediately flush skin with water and remove contaminated clothing. Use only in well-ventilated areas, as it can cause sensitization.

It works by reducing the S-S disulphide bonds in the Cystine molecules which make up 10-15% of the proteins which constitute skin and hair (collagen and keratin) to Cysteine. Used for  hair removal it essentially destroys the framing latticework structure of the hair, effectively dissolving it. Problem is it does the same to the skin.....leaving raw areas
In weaker concentration it's used both for hair perming and straightening. There it's applied making the hair structurally weak. Then the hair is rolled / stretched to the desired new shape, then hydrogen peroxide is applied (FFS no smoking!!!) to reoxidise the Cysteine back to Cystine in a new pattern, so holding the styled hair in place
