So England play Norway today, I just hope it's not a repeat of the 1981 World cup qualifiying game from September 1981 when they beat us 2-1 which lead to the famous quote by Norwegian commentator Bjorge Lillelien and his " your boys took one hell of a beating "

Hmmm I was always under the impression the game finished 1-0 but yes it was 2-1, anyway actual commentary

External Link/Members Only

I'm wondering if England win tonight whether our commentator will go on a rant trying to recall and name as many Norwegians as he can, I mean you'd have a hard job  :unknown:

Erling Haaland but he's actually playing, apart from that I know of Roald Amundsen and then there's the guys from the band Aha  :unknown:

Bit like the old joke about can you name 3 famous Belgium's - Jean Claude Van Damme; Tin tin and Stella Artois so one's a fictional character and one's a fucking beer

Offline ulstersubbie

As much as I would like to see a Norway win tonight, it's not going to happen. Apart from Haaland and their goalkeeper Norway are bang average, England simply have more quality overall, especially going forward.

Quite a few.
And actually quite impressive for a small country.
Ibsen, Grieg, Munch, Magnus Carlsen, Heyerdahl, and one of the As from Abba :D
Of course they have their aberrations like other countries.
Anders Brevik is infamous in this regard.
And Jens Fucking Stoltenberg :vomit:

The same was true of Ghana but we only got a draw

Brilliant goal by Jude  but the more I watch it the better the ball from Gordon was - played across the 18 yd line for Jude to run onto when so many wingers would have just put a high cross into the box

His lack of energy has been noted in commentary but will Tommy Tuchel do anything about it?

We weren't good, not enough shits on goal or on target, we were the best until the 1st hydration break as Norway had 10 men behind the ball but didn't do anything with it then got caught with a sucker punch.

Half way through the 2nd half Norway deserved to be going through, apart from Bellingham scoring Gordon was good again but got taken off

IMO we got away with one but i'll take it and remember all the times we played well and deserved to win but got unlucky and lost  :drinks:

So The Argies or Swiss up next  :unknown:

Such a difference between Southgate and Tuchel
Great to have a manager prepared to make big substitutions not just when forced and prepared to change the system like bringing James on for Gordon

Tuchel going off on one at Gabriel Clarke was comedy  :D  :D

I reckon England v France final

France will win handsomely

Offline Stevelondon

Although I wanted the Swiss to win. I was happy to see the dive being looked at and the player being given a second yellow.

Need to see more of that 🤷🏼

Well……….. on second thoughts no. There would be hardly any players left on the pitch in most games. 😂

Good on Bellingham for chirping back at Tuchel, just watched his interviews from last night, Tuchel was way over the top with his criticism of the performance in my opinion.  Jude was right to clamp him.

Remember the last European championships. England played crap in nearly every game yet still managed to reach the final . England just seem to do enough to win, whether that will work against a team like Argentina remains to be seen but we have a " hand of God" score to settle from 1986 .
As for Tuchel's critisism I like that about him , he is a perfectionist and I love the way he berates players from the touchline when they make an error.

Yeah that hand of God is still a festering wound despite us subsequently beating Argentina in the WC (seem to recall us getting a 1-0 win in the early 2000's  :unknown:)

Perhaps it's time to finally put things to bed if we can beat them again and we've just won in the Azteca which was the scene of the crime

I'm amazed after last nights sub par performance that the bookies have England as favourites to beat Argentina  :unknown:

I'm not BR. Argentina have looked far from convincing all tournament relying on individual moments of brilliance to get them over the line. Tuchel will know that this is England's best chance of getting to a World Cup final, well since 1966 anyway. The French are still favourites (although beating Spain isn't totally guaranteed), but in a one off final the best team doesn't always win.

Very true, Argentina haven't quite sparkled as you'd expect but it's a close call as neither have England

I just hope if it goes to penalties Messi is down to take one , although he is still rated as one of the Worlds greatest players he sucks when it comes to taking penalties. I think his sucess rate is only about 50% in recent games

Just been reading that England's first goal shouldn't have stood as the ball hit an overhead camera cable so the game should have been stopped and restarted with a dropped ball.

More like Norway clutching at straws, apparently the sensor inside the ball hardly registered any contact ,certainly not enough to make any effect on the flight of the ball  :unknown:
If I was Norway I'd be more concerned about the goalkeeper kicking the ball out wide where there didn't seem to be any Norway players in the vicinity.
