Unless we beat Brazil and finish second, in which case we’d likely be playing Japan

Good luck! I wonder if I'm the only Englishman who hopes you do?

I'm sure as a fellow Brit, you'll be hoping for your English neighbours to also do well.

I don’t mind England doing ok, just so long as you don’t win the thing.  Been hearing about the last win for 59 years!!

Looks like Spain is making up for the previous embarrassment against Cape Verde, 4-0 up after 50 minutes.

But at least the ghost of 1966 will be laid to rest  and we can harp on about 2026 for the next 59 years :D

Yeah well it's a 2 way street isn't it, we had to continually hear about how you qualified in 78 with Ally's Army and England didnee  :drinks:

No doubt after this WC we will have to constantly hear about how you qualified for the 2nd round  :D

No because if we win it this time then we'll be on a roll and start winning it every other time along with the Euros, think what Spain did once they got the monkey off their back  :drinks:

Just watching the Belgium Vs Iran game and I know Iran are currently rankd 22nd but Belgium are ranked 10th and still contain some of the star names from a few years ago that had them ranked either 1st or 2nd when they were amongst the favourites to win it last time out

Anyway they really don't look at all good, seem totally disjointed

It was some team in 2022 & previous Euros + WC with KDB & Hazard made a big difference
Stiff at the back with Jan "he's shagging your wife" Vertonghen
Lukaku in his prime a force to be reckoned with
Tielemans has come on

Courtois between the sticks gotta be one of the best keepers he's got another Euros & WC in him
Just when the oppo think the ball is going in somehow Courtois uses his height & vast reach to get to it
He ripped it out of Mr Short arms  :D

I'm sure you could get a better price than that in Cote D'Ivoire.

Indeed
If only
I went to The Gambia forever ago & the country is on the slide
Too risky for me now
CDI no chance
There must be some of the CDI SPs who have found their way to Dubai
Our fave sport is super safe there

There'll be some sheikh in one of the middle east countries who has spotted them
& set one of his trusted staff members the task of shipping em over with very healthy remuneration
Enough to set them up for life in their home country

What i found amusing on the match commentary constant references to CDI with a french effort on an accent
Whats wrong with Ivory Coast ?

The bbc have rolled out Alex Scott
Footy fans need to thank her  :hi:
For years Footy Focus was on the slide
Going from a must see to record & skip through then don't even bother doing that
She took it to a whole new level of bbc wokeyness mental health & wendyball at the forefront 💤
With viewing figures not surprisingly dropping off the face of a cliff with so many better platforms for footy stuff the bbc at least finally did the decent thing
& shot it in the back of the head, phew TFFT

Two best games of the WC so far for me yesterday.

Spain game was superb, if they continue to play like that they will be difficult to stop. The best football witnessed so far in the tournament, they were superb for the whole 90 minutes, albeit against a pretty weak opposition.

Then to top a great weekend of football off last night, the Uruguay v Cape Verde had pretty much everything. A most enjoyable end to end game which finished in a pretty fair score draw. Cape Verde are my favourite team so far, they have been absolutely brilliant and what a story given the size of the country. Scotland could take more than a few leafs out their book.

I was hoping to see Emma Hayes hydration break analysis during ITV's coverage of their last game but apparently she was wearing a camouflage top so I could not see her  :D
Has anyone else noticed Roy Keane rolls his eyes as soon as she starts talking. I bet he's thinking " why the fuck has ITV bought a fat cockney bird in to talk utter garbage"

Another draw for Cape Verde sees them on 2 points with theoretically their easiest game still to play, i'm thinking they may well be the plucky underdog team that Neutrals will jump on (along with Scotland of course )

Geoff Hurst (England's hat trick scorer in 1966 winning World Cup final and sole living member of that winning team) says he would be very disappointed if England don't make the semi final of the current World cup.

Geoff now in his 80's is probably quite happy to get a semi 😀

It’s not every day that p. 14 of the Times features a large photograph of fans of Portsmouth FC outside Elvis Presley's house, Graceland, so I thought I’d celebrate!

The accompanying report includes this:
____________

The streets of Memphis have heard blues, soul, and the birth of rock’n’roll — and now a chorus of 20 football fans from Portsmouth singing "Play Up Pompey".

The singers were among hordes of England fans to descend on the home of the blues — and Elvis Presley — on the Mississippi River between World Cup matches in Dallas and Boston.

A large group of friends from Portsmouth wore Elvis outfits purchased on Amazon to Graceland, the museum at Presley’s home, while others wore their England shirts. Other bemused visitors asked to take selfies with them.

____________

There is, however, one oddity about the photograph – namely that the man on the right looks a tad overweight.   This is strange because you never see overweight people in Portsmouth.  Let alone Pompey fans.

So Messi is currently the all time leading goalscorer in World cups with 18 goals but Mbape is not far behind with 16 goals   (in 16 games) this will almost certainly be Messi's last World cup tournament where as Mbape at 27 and will have at least one more left in him to smash the record. Who knows they could both be facing each other again in the latter Knockout stages or final  :unknown:
