Obviously, I've been reading about the World Cup prices.

I noticed that the French FA are doing a package costing £4500.
This seems to include flights, hotels and a ticket to each group game.
No idea what this would cost normally but it doesn't sound too bad.

His penalty was one of the best I've seen for a while.
Power and precision as penalties should be.

FIFA recently brought in some new rules for this world cup, like team gets a throw in, and they only have five seconds to throw the ball in.  Take any longer and the other team, then gets the throw in, and if taken quickly the other team is caught out

I wouild have liked to see some sort of rule on penalties, so every player is taking the penalties the same way.  So player stand 5 feet away from the ball, and has five seconds when the ref blow the whistle

I think it's stupid rule that forces the flow of the game at points where it is a legitimate stopping of play and no time for players to position themselves. Along with the 10 secs for a sub it's just dumb. With the sub thing we will have teams at 10 men ruining the flow of the game again.

How would that work? it suits Ivan Toney as he only takes 2 steps and he's scored 25 out of 26 but he's the exception.

Where would you draw the line? a goal keeper only allowed 2 steps for a goal kick or restrictions on the run-up for a free kick? players aren't going to get the power needed with those restrictions.

I think the stuttering run and daft dancing on the spot is a bigger issue.

IIRC stopping on the run up to a penalty wasnt allowed - then the question arose did he stop or just slow down - a lot - it became another problem for refs.
The current system is a bit unfair on the keeper who cannot move his feet off the line until the ball is struck but if he times his move for the strike but the taker delays at the last minute and misses, the penalty could be retaken for keeper movement

There was an article in the Times  that Harry Kane had changed his penalty technique. He used to decide 2 days before a match where he would put a penalty - left/right  High/low the the day before he would practice that penalty - and only that penalty several times Then 2 years ago he changed to the watch the keeper then decide

From Gordon's last penalty he had obviously decided and to be fair even if the keeper guessed right he wouldnt get near it

2nd a bit of wrestling
3rd clearly a foul and no intention of playing the ball - certainly a yellow but is it a red on the corner of the box with other defenders around ?

could be a record number of reds in this world cup and probably a record amount of play acting no doubt many (most/all) managers instructing players if you feel a touch act like you have been shot !

He’s awaiting trial for rape and sexual assault in the Uk but wasn’t denied a US visa as he’s not been convicted of anything.  Canada took a different view.

So the Yanks spank Paraguay 4-1 in their opening match. Impressive performance but Paraguay looked a poor team in the first half and only a little better in the 2nd half. I haven’t watched any of it yet, that’s never happened with a World Cup before. I think with England playing in one of the last of the first round matches it actually feels like it hasn’t even started yet. If the Scotland match was kicking off at a more reasonable time then I would watch it but I’m not missing out on my beauty sleep! Sure enough it's fucking started 

Woke up this morning feeling a bit groggy after a night out and put the BBC TV news on and low and behold when the sport section came on all I could hear were what sounded like a load of pissed up Jocks all droning out the phrase in a really boring monotone way that sounded like a haggis being tortured.

The presenter then proceeded to interview people including a young lad who seemed a bit like a rabbit in the headlights, he'd obviously been pre primed to say "No Scotland, No Party" at the end but couldn't remember it until the presenter started prompting him and he came out with it.

If it's not already bad enough then FFS don't enourage people too

This could all so easily drift into politics so i'll be careful and just say that i'm surprised he's been allowed into the US and IMO it's right for Canada and indeed any country to stop him or any other risky / undesirable from entering, anyway hopefully he stays there
