Hotel recommendations Bangkok & Phuket

Hello my fellow long haul shaggers.

Planning my first trip to Thailand. Have rummaged through most threads for the last year and really enjoyed reading the threads. Love the threads I.e like Jumble’s recently, documenting day and by day. It’s like reading a good book and following the journey. I’ve seen loads saying they’re off next week - would love to hear your stories / places visited .. come on chaps! 💪


Never been to Thailand, but planning my trip. Got 5 days each in Bkk, Phuket & Pattaya next Jan. Pattaya hotel wise, I’m sorted. A couple of you lads recommended Sandy Springs and that ticks the boxes for me with the rooms and location so happy days - and budget friendly at £190 for 5 nights!

Looking for hotel suggestions around Nana area Bangkok and Bangla Road Phuket. I will be in high season, so I know prices will be higher. Aiming for circa £50-£70 a night and ideally 4*. My main thing really for the room is decent walk in shower and air con. Ideally hotels you’ve stayed in and why .. for example it was clean, nice rooms and a 7/11 next door and easy to grab a bolt/grab taxi outside etc.
I carry a few extra pounds so walking in 35 degrees and that humidity isn’t my idea of fun - hence why I want the location / hotel to be spot on for the short 5 night stint in each place I have.

personally I recommend Night Hotel Bangkok, its right in the middle between Nana and Asoke so its easily walkable to both. It also has the most comfortable beds I have slept in in Thailand.

+1 for Night Hotel. Less then 5 mins walk from a 7/11, loads of food places and a Irish bar that seems busy most of the times I walked past. On a quieter side street too so bit better then being out on the main strip.

10 mins walk from Terminal 21 shopping mall and a decent outdoor food market with plenty of food stalls

Completely guest friendly too

IBIS and Novotel is on same road as Nana Plaza. Its the same building but different price points. IBIS is cheaper because the room is smaller.  The sound insulation isnt great and there are lots of noisy guys walking pass your room at all hours.

Plan B. Sukhumvit 11. Half way point between Nana and Soi Cowboy and Thermae Cafe. Aira is about £70  a night. Next door is Ambassador at £45. Further in Soi 11 is Travelodge at about £55. I have stayed at all 3 and I can recommend. I don't kniw know if its girl friendly but they don't seem to pay any attention to people traffic

Bearing in mind your 4* and minimal walking requirements if you can squeeze the budget a bit then  Landmark is worth a look. Use it a lot for business stays and guests are fine. Otherwise Soi 4/6 Novotel has got to be the ideal option but haven’t stayed there personally.

For a complete contrast Grace hotel is an eye opener. Freelancers in the snooker room most of whom have been working a long time

+1 on Landmark, don't recommend rooms overlooking nana though if you actually want to get any snooze after your tasty treats leave...

Go read my Bangkok report from October. I went to Phuket too and the hotel I stayed at was easily in your budget and practically opposite Hooters and Hard Rock and only a short walk from Bangla Road. I fear my hotel in Bangkok was over your budget though.

Thanks bud. I had actually read your report a while back but just re-read it. A great read - in fact better than most books I’ve read! Especially with the adventure with Ann!    And poopae sounded amazing.

Adelphi suites is definitely on the narrowed down list. Just about in budget (£83 per night atm). Do like the look of Novotel and dynasty too.   The hotel in Phuket looks a good choice too, so thanks for the recommendations.

Are you due to return at all this year?

Perfect hotel.. that my go to place, 7/11 up the road , laundry round the corner, Thermae at the end of the road, if you need a Vietnamese barber experience 3 mins up the road (shave massage ear cleaning 90 mins pampering).
Perfect for getting a bike taxi around as they can use the back streets to get to Nana without the death trap of Sukhumvit road 😬😬
Good restaurants around… also I’ve said before the little stress free bar Bakcs good for pool.

My personal recommendation in Bangkok is The Landmark Hotel. It will be at the top of your budget but: its round the corner from Nana's and walking distance from Soi Cowboy and Thermae. The hotel is 5* and has everything: great restaurants, nice pool and bar. Most of all though they don't care about you bringing SP's back. Its like living like a king or rockstar.

Hi, I had 5 nights at this place a few years ago. Nice rooms good location soapy nura massage places round the corner and down soi 31/33 and good restaurants. Also GF so that’s a plus. On the downside small roof top pool more of a large splash pool with rooftop sun terrace.

Across the street is a smaller hotel, I’ve been toying with staying there but not booked as yet. It has a much larger roof top pool. Don’t know if GF ?

Yes, roof top pool is shared.  Come nightfall the pool is closed and it becomes a 'roof top bar'. The city view is good and the cocktails and finger food is great but on the expensive side. If you choose this place, try for a corner room. Its quieter

Roughly on the other side of  Sukhumvit is Marriott Marquis on Soi 24. Its on the expensive side  but if you want to treat yourself... As an incentive the whole road is lined with massage shops which offers extras.

Yes, going back in 59 days (but who's counting, hey?!). Spending two weeks with Poopae in Bangkok, Koh Samui and Khon Kaen. Mixing it up a bit by trying a new hotel (the Rembrandt) in Bangkok and really hoping I don't regret change for changes sake since I really like Adelphi Suites.

As a matter of interest, why do you want to be down there? Most people would say that if you are looking to be in or near "the action" go inbetween Nana and Soi Cowboy (Terminal 21 is near mid way between the 2).

Fair point.. the traffic can be a bastard so you walk to bts or bike taxi around.. I find just walking around I’m soaked with sweat.. it’s not ideal turning up at a bar like a drowned rat..
so I use bike taxis but if your down near soi 31/33 area you need to do the death trap Sukhumvit main road,  as they shut a few years ago the short cut cross road at sukhumvit 21 & 100 Pi Samakhon Ally just up from soi cowboy. Don’t get me wrong it’s fun for the first few rides but the law of averages will definitely apply.

Does anyone recommend staying at Ruamchitt Plaza Hotel with Thermae café underneath? And are there any other similar freelancer cafés?

The area in general is a bit nicer than near Nana, better restaurants etc and definitely a decent choice for massage & gogo bars.

St Regis is a lovely hotel - further out if you want to escape the craziness for a few days and enjoy Lumphini Park and view over Royal Bangkok Sport Club - but near enough to the action say 30min on foot to Nana.

Thanks for that. I was actually looking for hotels more around the region of St Regis, prefer the area. Mostly was just worried about concierge caring about girls coming in and out. Is it reasonable to walk with girls all the way back or calling a cab better?

Just really humid, no air etc. I was OK around the pool but walking around sukhimvit I was a sweaty mess haha. Night time was bearable

Yep there are a few nice ones in this area - it depends a lot on the time of day and year to be honest and you’ll figure it out when you’re over there no problem. Most girls are going to appreciate jumping in a taxi or uber. No hotel is going to have a problem with you bringing girls back - just be respectful to staff and other guests.

I was fortunate enough to get upgraded to have a Butler service - my Indo GF and I arranged a freelancer to visit for a threesome. Drinks in Zuma and then upstairs - didn’t hear the Butler arrive and by which time we were all naked.

They’ve seen it all - “just checking if you need anything” - smiled and she said “see you in the morning - have a good time”
