I can recall occasionally making the odd quip in a message exchange, but imho they were a bit less corny than the OPs attempt....(or maybe not I hear you say).
However it's usually been with British women who I thought might have a sense of humour.
Even then it can backfire.
Apart from the language problem with non - English speakers, women from different parts of the country might not 'get the joke'.
A bit of attempted banter from a cheeky Yorkshire lad, may well fall flat when heard by a refined lady from Banbury for example.
I can recall trying to arrange a meeting via WhatsApp and the lady insisted on sharing time limited photos.
When she saw my pic she typed "I'm glad you're nice looking",
Then when I saw her very sexy topless pic I replied "You're not too bad yourself luv!".
To which she replied "Oh!.... Don't you like me then???, which required a bit of rapid grovelling to rescue the situation.
