Heads up for all of you in relationships with a stashed punting phone.

Make sure the phone is switched off. Simple as that. Why would you leave it on and make yourself vulnerable to discovery at anytime let alone for the warning?

And begs the question as to why the government has tendered for a “mass fatality capability resilience storage framework,
In the event of a major incident resulting in a large number of fatalities which could overwhelm existing body storage capacity the Home Office would provide contingency support to the requesting local authority,"

Do they know something we dont???
Proby 18 Russian nuke subs just off the North Sea and Irish sea.

This will be the second one they've sent out, the first was  April 2023. It isn't rocket science to turn them off on your phone.

BTW do not start a discussion on the politics behind it, that will come with a ban.

6 page thread on that one here - https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=370523.250

Can't see what the worry is all about. The last time this happened I did not receive any alerts on my everyday use phone  .
Perhaps the government don't have my number :unknown:

They don't send it to the number, you probably have it switched off, they use mobile phone masts to send the alerts.
Old phones 2/3G are not compatible.

You need to have 'Extreme Alerts' and 'Severe Alerts' enabled on your phone before you receive them.

To check on an Iphone open notifications in settings and scroll down to 'Emergence Alerts' at the end of the list, if they're on turn them off.

See reply #7.

There were also technical problems that meant that some phones didn't receive the signal during the 2023 test. Most but not all of them were on the Three network.

Just did this, easy peasy, literally at the bottom of notifications, just swipe left on the screen.

Thanks DM

I know of 2 phones not on the 3 network that didn't receive the signal. Was interesting because I was sure I'd disabled my phones, a friend didn't. I received the alerts, they didn't.

3G network is still compatible, on my phone  I can choose which setting  either 3G , LTE ( 4G) or 5G. The one thing I did learn recently is that 5G uses more battery power on your phone so drains your battery quicker. As Daviemac says just go to settings and disable emergency alerts.

I meant the emergency alert won't be sent on 3G network or so I have read, of course to be safe better disable it :

External Link/Members Only.

The alert will be sent to all smartphones on the UK's 4G and 5G networks, even if they are not connected to mobile data or wi-fi.

There are about 87 million mobile phones in the UK and the government says about 95% of the population has 4G or 5G access.

Older phones, and phones connected to 2G or 3G networks, will not receive the message.

Phones that are switched off or in airplane mode will also not get the alert.

I've disabled mine, I await finding out if the disable works this time. Didn't prevent it last time
