Any body ever been to Glastonbury,  going or is at  Glastonbury this year. I do love my music but have never had the urge to go there. It seems a lot of money to pay to watch a lot of bands or musicians I have little or no interest in . :unknown:

Each to their own, but with tickets at a reported 400 quid a pop I decided to pass thanks.

It's much nicer watching it from home where there's clean running water and a clean toilet.

Looking at this year's line up I can't say I'm overly impressed with the line up. Perhaps it's my age but I've never heard of a lot of the acts that's appearing there.

A few bands I'd like to see, but it's outweighed by the majority not being ones I'd see and the general grime of the place

Offline chrishornx

I lik ecreature comforts too much to go

I gather from my nephew that most just pop out out of their tents and pee on the grass outside at night  and the whole camp wreaks

and the choice of bands is hardly inspiring

I saw one big fat ugly bird last night singing "at least I am not fucking myself' as she wobbled round stage fiddling with an inflatable doll.  :dash: :dash:

Oh dear! Not the sort of girl you can take home to mum then.  :D

I watched 'The 1975' on the telly for a while last night.  Self-opinionated prick of a vocalist who staggered unrealistically around the stage holding a pint of beer and chain smoking, pretending to be some sort of rebellious, drunken wild child whilst all the time singing clearly and in pitch and playing to all the tv cameras.  The audience lapped it up, which encouraged him even more.  The real 1970's rockers genuinely were drunk and/or stoned during some live performances and if they made too much of a mess of it they got booed and sometimes even bottled off the stage.  Them were the days!

I'm with Maiden's Bruce Dickinson on this, it’s one of the most bourgeois things on the plant.

There are so many better, less corporate, festivals than Glasto.

I think the UKP population is a bit old for this ere fest thing.

Been there a few times long time ago now and twice to rescue peeps from the flooded rained out site!

Always makes me wonder how many have started life out there judging from the odd familer grunting sounds from the tents on site;?.

And begs the question has anyone taken an escort with them or all too old to remember now?..

Offline lewisjones23

I've been twice, second time I left after 36 hours, just haven't got that in me anymore

Online Charliehutton

Not for me. Still, with so many environmentally aware festival goers, they'll be sure to leave it nice and tidy afterwards.

It is an absolute shithole when the festival finishes and they all go home, imagine a slum in Nigeria but 100x worse

but ... by the time up the clean up is done, it is back to being clean and the land can recover, that said there is still then hundreds of tonnes of rubbish that needs to be removed and processed off site

Are you overly familiar with slums in Nigeria, they might actually be tidier.

I’ve been three times, the last time was 2013 when the Stones were on.

Watching Pulp and Ezra Collective tonight makes me wish I was there again. So far, Raye looks pretty good too.

No you aren't.
I went in '93, it was red hot that year.
I remember seeing The Orb,who were fantastic. Other than that I went to the rockabilly stages.
It smelt of diesel generators, and port-a-loos. The litter and rubbish were ridiculous.
Watch from home 👍

Neil Young is a genius. 79 years old and can still perform like this.

Sound was a bit ropey at one point but he did choose well from his vast collection and  what an encore ! (although I suspect the meaning of its lyrics went over the heads of most of the audience)

I've been in 86,87 a few times in the 90s and 2000s recently  helping event people with their concessions, sourdough bread, poncy tea, coffee and cakes. I'm typing this from a yurt at the venue. In 86 the price was under £20, a fortune. I've always managed to get tickets when I want them, this year we bought a premium package looking forward to Rod later on. The next few weeks is Wimbledon and am planning on going there unless excessively hot. Honestly, I didn't know how I had time to work.

Not to Glasto. But enjoyed festivals oh so long ago.

Now I just couldn’t be arsed and as has been mentioned. I just wouldn’t enjoy a lot of the performers.
No fan of Pulp but I would have loved to have seen Neil Young.

Funnily enough I was at one of those Caribbean fair things recently. Had some eats, drank some punch. Listened to some music. Nice day.

Coventry do an annual music festival every year called The Godiva festival. Starts next week over three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It used to be free but now they council charge for it. I have seen The Stranglers, Cast and The Lighning Seeds in the past. Not a very good line up this year apart from Ocean Colour Scene who are the headline act this time.

Gary Numan I would have liked to see back in the 80s, circa replicas. Still like some of his later work, but think that was the prime with image and performance.

Yep, nauseating.

I didn’t see any Hamas flags.
Support of the people of Palestine is not support of Hamas and if you equate the 2, then you’re falling  right into the trap set by the evil Israeli government.
Fuck the Israeli regime, fuck Hamas, free Palestine 🇵🇸

Edit: And fuck me! Neil Young , what a glorious noise he still makes, absolute legend ☮️

Why do people insist on turning threads that have nothing to do with politics into political discussions when the rules clearly state political posts are only allowed in the dedicated political thread.

Just a reminder, political posts come with a ban.

Offline chrishornx

I see one of the Kpop band has come out a being 'proud to be gay", to much applause.

I wonder what reaction there would be if somebody came out saying they were proud to be heterosexual - they would probably get ripped apart by our wokeish press

I trust this isn't considered political - if so apologies

Back on topic!

I love going to festivals but have found that anything around or over 100,000 people is too much for me and I do not enjoy it.  So Glastonbury at over 200k forget it.

It is the whole experience over several days that I love, almost regardless of what artists or music genre.  Being there in a field with thousands of others having a great time in rain or sun and the shared experience of living there is what makes the experience.  Plus the beer and scantily clad young women!!

There was a small version of the one in Israel here called simply Remember October 7th  -
Spare a thought for all the young people who never returned home from a music festival
