Has anyone used this app as an alternative to a punting phone? Is or any good and is it discreet?

Offline Makazian

It does work. Only thing is I think you have to buy credits now. You used to be able to get them by watching ads but I don’t see an option for it now. You do get credits when someone else texts you or replies though.

It says the number should stay active as long as you send a text or make a call once every 14 days I think. It expires after a few days if you don’t.

Great

I'll give it a whirl and see how it goes

Saves me buying a punting phone and credit

Offline lewisjones23

It is my app of choice,

Very easy to use and can delete the number/get a new one for free every 24 hours.

I just spam text the number a load of times of my proper phone so I build up a load of credits easily. The credits remain even after a number is deleted.

I've never needed to upgrade off the free version.

Offline smit1234

I've worked out to do the same so no need to buy credits

Turn off the notifications, it plays a different sound to usual messages so could have someone questioning it if they hear it

Offline smit1234

Ive had my phone in silent mode for the last 15 years so no danger there

I'm intrigued by this!

Its an app, can download it to smartphones

gives you a second number on your phone.

I use it for all of my punting contact now, activate a number, have my booking and then burn the number afterwards

Offline Tyramhall

I've used it for 6 months plus now and it's great for messaging strangers 😂

I got onto this too save lonely for a punting sim but it says I can’t message cos of spam? What do you do in these situations?

I can still get freebies (using the bottom menu icons choose ‘shop’, ‘free’, ‘watch a video’)
Sometimes there are no adverts available, but they do work again after a while

When I first installed the app I would run the video adverts a few times, and put my phone down while it played in the background - you may need to click some buttons to fully complete an advert
After a short while I built up approx 100 credits and would then top up every now and again

These days though, as mentioned above, I generally get bonus credits from incoming responses when texting a provider - especially when they send a series such as price list followed by approx address, then call or text for the final address.  So receiving about 3, 4 or more messages per 2 or 3 messages / calls out

If needed then self messaging can work.

I’ve used TextMe since 2019, and the only problems I have had is that on a couple of occasions incoming messages were delayed due to a poor data signal and on one occasion that it appears that the new number had recently been used by someone maliciously - I generated the number just before booking so I needed to call back on arrival for the final directions, the problem was in between I was getting calls and messages asking “who is this” etc. Once finished that booking I killed the number

Since then I aim to set up a fresh number a bit earlier in case of problems but haven’t had an issue since

If you mean the service provider won’t accept your messages/calls as the number you have is flagged as spam then I would delete that number (click the > arrow next to your current number, scroll down & delete) , confirm to burn) and then generate another in case someone has abused the existing number.

If all the numbers are being blocked then it could be the providers call system blocking groups etc

Did all that, got a new number and still couldn’t text. So said fuck it and bought an actual eSIM

Ah right I see where you can watch the ads now. Don’t actually need it because they often send about 5 messages like “hi”, “yes”, “how are you babe”, “how long you stay”, all in separate messages which normally is annoying but when using TextMe it’s helpful  :D

Ah... I note that the app requires data, which hadn't occurred to me. I turn data off when I visit a WG so this app isn't going to work for me.

I’ve tried using it and it’s absolutely shit. I’ve tried two numbers now and after sending 5 texts I can’t send anymore, all I get is a message from the app saying about spam. 5 texts is spam?

never had that problem

why are you needing 5+ messages to try and set up a booking?

Where in my post does it say all 5+ texts were trying to set up a booking?

Shouldn’t jump to conclusions mate, makes you look like an idiot.

And it’s quite easy to use 5 texts to setup a booking if 1 or 2 SPs don’t  reply or the time you want isn’t available so you have to ask for another time or confirm the time they offer you. Then the text saying you’ve arrived/  on your way.

well you're clearly doing something wrong as I've used the app for over a year and not had the issue you're describing

I just thought “fuck it” and bought an eSIM and figured out how it works. Tenner a month I just don’t have to think about and saves me getting a new phone.
I too like to text 3 girls I want to punt at one time in case one goes south and I got the spam message. Don’t get me wrong I understand why they do it but the fact you can’t communicate to them your not a bot is stupid.

Offline slimdude1

App is great when it works - problem is they frequently restrict your account from sending texts and it can take 24hrs for that restriction to go. I've had times where I've setup a meet with an SP, and then I can no longer send texts due to the restrictions and the SP gets frustrated and thinks I've gone ghost.

I'm not quite sure what triggers the restriction either, as I'm not spamming out messages - just seems the "system" must be very sensitive. Anyone found a work round this?

Offline smit1234

Mine has completely given up on me and is saying I need to pay £14 for a new number

Offline Howmadone

I use Hushed for a second number. Delete the app when I'm not using it.

Offline MaxVerstappen

I've been using it for years now. It's great imo. Basically you can have a new free number every week. To get free credit simply text from your regular number to your Text me app number, each message is worth 1 extra credit.

Offline slimdude1

you can also use your textme number to set up your whatsapp business since some SPs only reply through whatsapp

Make sure that your existing number is fully deleted

Choose ‘numbers’, click the arrow next to your number, then at the bottom choose ‘delete number’ then again at the very bottom of the ‘are you sure?’ Screen click the small print ‘delete this number’

You should then have a ‘get a 1st phone number’, choose ‘new local number’, pick a number ….
If you get the ‘secure this number’ countdown then it may be that your last number did not get deleted or you have changed too many for the moment
(I’ve just deleted & replaced numbers a few times to test it out and currently am getting the ‘secure this number’ page)

Another thing to try is to check that you have plenty of credits - Within the app choose ‘store’, ‘free’ and play some adverts (sometimes it runs out of adverts for you, so try again later)
Originally I ran a few adverts one after the other, putting my phone down with the volume down just to keep playing them, but now I have a good number of credits it tends to stay steady with free credits when SPs reply to messages, confirm the address etc

Check that push notifications have not been disabled for the app in your phones settings, or check for VPNs to make sure that you aren’t showing as in a different country etc
