Author Topic: The Jump from PS4 to PS5... was it bigger than the jump from PS2 To PS3?  (Read 620 times)

Pretty much my question in the title tbh. the Jump in Graphics from PS2 to PS3 was crazy . The Jump from PS4 to PS5 wasn't really revolutionary graphically  to be honest which makes me think that PS6 most likely wont be a massive jump in what we are currently seeing . Just subtle in game mechanics improvements and some hardware upgrades is what i think they will do

The same can kinda apply with the jump from xbox (Original) to the xbox 360 and the XboxOne  to xbox series x

What do you guys think

Best way to gauge it imo is to look at where PC graphics are at now (or will be when the PS6 releases)
So better FPS and graphics and better UI but not as big a jump as the PS2 to PS3 made as you have to remember PC was also making huge jumps back then also in term of tech

This is very true actually i didnt  even consider this . PC have always and is still making lots improvements which does make them the benchmark for what we will see in PS6...This might make me consider switch to a gaming PC Setup in future lool

I don't think they sold as many PS5 consoles as they thought they would. If you go into any games stores there seems to be just as many if not more PS4 games still on sale as PS5 games

yeah spot on, the lockdowns i think also contributed to why they didnt sell as much . i agree with you on the PS4 games being on the shelves  i think Sony messed things up with the PS5. they gotta do better with the next release. then again ive heard the xbox lot are also complaining about the same things so i dont see microsoft overtaking sony anytime soon

Wasn't it also to do with the availability of some of the electronic chips required to build them. During the covid period production dropped right off. This also effected the production of new cars at that time.
A lot of PS4 games can be played on PS5 consoles with very little difference in picture quality  that and the fact you are paying £20 more for a PS5 version game than a PS4 version.

Wonder how many sellers online still have the multiple PS5 which they bought in large numbers.  When the PS5 went on sale it was almost impossible to get one right away, but plenty PS5 on sale on Amazon/Ebay for £1000+

Luckily in my work, head office had placed orders for staff who wanted a PS5, and in my store we had 15 PS5 delivered, and 20% of the retail price

PS5 games are sold around 70% digitally and 30% physical copies and the gap is only getting bigger.

When it launched more people were buying physical copies and edition consoles but seems to be shifting now.

Overall ive been pretty disappointed with games on PS5 - GTA6 constantly delayed, everything else is a remake or remaster lol
