When I look back about 10+ years ago, there were several independent masseurs working from their homes that I used to visit. Housewives earning a bit extra money from home. Some advertised on H&E, some on Viva & there were a couple that had newspaper adverts (remember them?) then their details were passed on by word of mouth. These little gems seem to have dried up. Everything now seems to be centred around Chinese & Thai parlours. I can't believe that there are none left at all but I just can't find them. Does anyone know of anyone still doing this?
I remember these, many would put ads in the personals of the local rag, i think Thursdays local would have the biggest section, sometimes the advs would be quite clear and other times it may be a gamble deciding on if it was a WG or just some slapper looking for a BF
Some of the top shelf mags would also have ads too, occasionally these would be accompanied with a photo and like today, not an up to date or genuine one too, another method of advertising was on teletext, similar set up to the other ads, mostly you had a premium number to dial and take it from there, occasionally you would have a land line number but i recall one lass would use a local phone box to take her calls, you contacted the number in the ad which gave you details of the number to call and what time to call it...a fucking nightmare but she was a good fuck
I recall seeing one in Donny, she would advertise every third week, only saw punters on an evening as her old man would be on nights at the local pit, later, during the miners strike of 84, the same bird and her fat mate would take punters at a different address, comms was fucking difficult back then, no mobile phones or fuck all
The fat mate had to be included as it was her digs they used but at £20, 2 packets of Benson and hedges and a 4 pack of skol got me a double up and the fat bird would do anything
There are still a few who work from their own residential place, though there set ups are more business like than just a bit on the side
Back in the day Mrs Robinson in Leeds operated like this though today she is AW based and business prices, Courtessa who was in Morley also worked from her own address as did/Does Nikki the malaysian girl, I suppose today Nikkis prices of £60 hr massage & HE would be ball park with the home workers from the 80s
In recent times i would probably say that Courtessa's set up would be the closest set up to what you have described, a home set up to taking in punters to top up her income from her civvi job, obviously she as a provider she as declined with shit loads of issues over the last year or so, but her set up would be akin to that of days gone by
Im sure there will be many others on here who remember those days and may even have some good tales to tell too
Personally i liked the influx of the Asian massage shops, i dont think they led to the decline of the home worker though, i think that the internet was possibly the cause of this, the net showed many that they could do more and get more as now the country and world became a smaller place, if you then take in consideration the impact of social media, where every daily activity could also be outed on the likes of FB then its no wonder that many of these girls either packed up or ended up working in a serviced set up or apartment, obviously the availability of mobile phones made comms much easier too so landline contact was no longer a necessity, so again IMO i dont think the Asian shops were to blame at all but in one respect there emergence was most likely boosted by the net, social media (forums like this one) and obviously mobile phones
But like you say, many were little gems and are sadly missed
